Of all the races of creatures that actually are friendly to you in Guild Wars, I think that Tengu are by [far the best. Or at least, the most impressive, in terms of artwork. I think they would be a valid race to add to GW2.
Character Creation
Creating a Tengu would be much like any other class. Instead of face shape, they would probably have different beaks and eyes. As a Tengu's hair consists only of its feathers, that option could be swapped out for face jewelery.
Also, as Tengu don't have skin, instead of that option we could have feather hue. Perhaps have choices between Brown (Such as Talon Silverwing), White (Such as Shiverpeak Avicaras), Green (Such as the EotN Quetzals) and Black (Not on any currently existing Tengu, but it would be a good idea).
Special Race Bonus
As all the races are known to have special bonuses, the Tengu would likely have some sort of attack speed/recharge rate bonus. However, with the advent of a Z-Axis in GW2, it might be nice if they had a "fly" skill that allowed them to traverse area's in an airborne manner for a short time. Of course, this would bring up all sorts of technical problems, so I admit that the latter is unlikely to happen.
What do you, the rest of the community think?
(Sorry if this was the wrong place to post it, as it's not technically a custom class, but this forum seemed the most appropriate.)

I very much like this idea, even though i hate fighting tengu's. As tengu's are brids, they've got very good eyesight so maybe you can do something with that. You forgot the Caromi tengu in kryta and the Sensali tengu in Shing jea island. And look at this (from wiki)
Tengu move slightly faster than humans, so are difficult to lose aggro from.
All Avicara Tengu in the Southern Shiverpeaks are especially vulnerable to lightning damage (including rangers).
interesting ey?
futhermore,
They are unable to fly,
this makes your idea kinda impossible.

Yeah, I saw that. I thought the "moving faster" thing would be fairly useless in GW2, but I adapted that to a faster recharge/attack rate.
As for the whole flightless thing, I just liked the idea. It was more of a pipe dream, that I thought would be pretty neat. It would raise too many problems to be worthwhile to Anet,
And I didn't forget the Caromi, etc. I just posted pictures of the 3 main color schemes Tengu have.
(If the pictures are not appearing to you, and you know why, please tell me so I can fix it)

You could just have a PvE skill called flutter, that lets you jump twice as high for X seconds, during those X seconds you look really stupid flapping your arm-wings really fast.
But while on the topic of non mammal races, I want playable scalies!
Preferably raptorlings, or at least the Forgotten or Naga as playables.
But with the exception of Everquest and TES all RPG's(not just online ones) shun non mammal races, because of the cloaca.
They must believe all games are sexually insecure males, that will hate any race that is missing certain vital parts, so on account of 'marketing' I doubt we will see any really or original interesting playable races.
Although with Anet we might stand a chance though, they pride themselves with being original on gameplay and (non-prophesies)classes. They were a little original with the races; aside from the fan demanded elves and dwarves, they added giants and sharp toothed lepricons and Charr, but they still chose to use only mammal races.

forget it with the fly option... would make this race unfair and imba ...
when flying comes, then only through mounts, which every race can get, for example Gryffons or different types of Dragons per race

Man, I like the tengu better than the charr, especially if you are fighting them. Since the tengus are mythical birds, I guess that should have IAS or increased movement speed.
Phoenix Tears
Tengus are originally translated for japanese "Sky Hounds" ... so their origin has nothing to do with birds ... only the imagine changed over time to birds, cause more and more asion mythologies over those Tengus were mixed together until the picture ended and stayed for the people of the hybrid of half human and half bird

ok, its on german, but i'm sure the english wikis have the same article or a similar one, or just translate it self XD.
However, i wouldn't like them as playable race, they are ugly, have even too small wings to be able to fly, or can ostriches fly with their little wings ?
no they can, they are simple to big and their wings to small to be able to fly ...

i think flying would really make game play interesting, perhaps you could only fly at a certain level either through a skill, item or animal. it would differ from race to race.
Humans- Some spell or broom type object (think of the skins you could have), i find the idea of capturing and training a dragon/griffon/other a really interesting idea.
Dwarves- something more stable than a broom like a flying bike, still dragons!, perhaps a staff or some sort of cloud to ride.
Sylarvi-could possibly ride on the wide.
As for the others not sure at the moment.
Tengu would be a good playable race and centaurs, i like the idea that as a centaur your friends could ride on your back.

Imagines a Charr riding on a Centaur > Centaur = X.X R.I.P lol
PS: same for Norn *g*
