What's the secret to charming the white moa?
lakatz
I was told that when the white moa spawns in Varajar Fells, it spawns in the herd of yaks (and bison) just SW of Olafstead. And according to the wikis the only thing you need to trigger them to spawn is to have completed the Curse of the Nornbear quest. I've completed it, and today I've zoned in and out of Olafstead 11 times so far and they haven't spawned yet... so I'm wondering if there's something else I'm missing.

youre missing a wee bit of luck, try a couple of times more and you should see em ^^
MithranArkanere
I had to try 26 times until the flock appeared.
Pickletron
I went out of Sifhalla into Drakkar Lake, as soon as you finish loading a group of like 6 start to run away from you.
If you quickly run at them and start charming one it won't turn hostile (and you can't attack them) so it will just keep running.
When your charm finishes it will run straight back to you

I lost count after awhile, but it was well past 30 zonings. Thanks for your help and encouragement!

I've seen them appear twice.
And I've not been looking for them.
And I don't want them.
And I've only zoned out of the about 9 times or so.
Lucky me?

Lucky me? That's how life works. lol
When you're looking for something, you'll never find it.
When you're not, it's always around...

The first time I was in Varajar Fells they spawned. Never seen them ever again.
Curse You
You need to have a ranger primary or secondary. You, not your heroes.
That's how it's always been for my warrior at least.
EDIT: Ok, maybe it was just luck, or they changed it.

When you're not, it's always around... Heh. And it's "always in the last place you look."
...although why you would go on looking for it after you found it always escapes me.

Moa birds are overrated anyways....I still want an elephant. There used to be a race of dwarven elephants anyways so they don't have to be enormous.

EDIT: Ok, maybe it was just luck, or they changed it. I'd say it was just luck. My elementalist saw them once at the preview weekend. Didn't really see them again after that. Oh and I want a yellow moa bird. Then I can name it my own Chocobo.

I've seen people name the normal ones 'Red Chocobo'

I saw some in the Snowman dungeon. I see them all the time once I go out of Sifhalla, and they do love to run!

Just to the SW of Olafstead. You can see the yaks standing around as you go down the 'ramp' and the bison moving around behind them after you leave the ramp. They are right there when they do spawn, and you can't miss them. If you don't see them when you get to the bottom of the ramp, then they didn't spawn, so...rezone, rezone, rezone until they do. According to the wiki, you have to have completed the Curse of the Nornbear quest for them to spawn.
They also sometimes spawn as you're coming out of the south gate of Sifhalla and in the northern part of Jaga Moraine, but it's the same thing... only sometimes.
You have to chase them down. Once Pyre finally got off the charm animal skill, he started chasing the moa, then the moa suddenly turned and came running toward us. It was funny to watch.

My Black Chocobo doesn't run over the ocean.
undeadgun
were they charmable in snowman mission???
Sparks Dawnbringer
I think they only spawn once in a while. I got mine in northern Jaga Moraine, after looking in the other places susgested by wiki. Also they move around a lot and are fast. So you have to really look.
