How do you typcially get rid of your items?
Novalon
Sometimes, I find a gold on the ground, and think to myself: "Sure, the merchant could pay for that, but I bet I could get it from another player for a much better price." And of course, if you are in HM often, you may come across a lot of tomes, and want to know the quickest and most profitable way to remove them.
How does everyone do it? Through "Storage Clearing Sales" in the Sell forum, through those kind of sales in game? Through auctioning?

I merchant cause i usually ask to much for items and it takes to long to sell =/

For most items, chuck them at the merchant or the traders. For drops that might be worth selling, stick them on guru auctions.
For things like tombs I just stash them in storage, I'll probably auction them all off in one single guru auction when I get too many of them.

Spazzer
I give them away to people in the alliance when I want to clear out my storage space.
I only save the best things when I play, but these are things that I will never use. I am proud of the gifts that I give, and I enjoy seeing them appreciated by people who will use them.
I don't hawk items to other players in towns. I think it's a task for meaningless people.
I have a few mules, and I use them often to store tomes and other useful consummables when I can't use them. If I get a tome that allows my monk to get a skill that she does not already have, it's immediately used--I want her to be perfect.
Since all of my monk's weapons are customized, retired weapons that don't end up on heroes usually end up on a mule.

Well, usually trading, but i have a bad habit of trying to sell everything at once instead of a little bit at a time. Assuming you mean golds and greens.
kazjun
I usually salvage mods and merch the golds. Unless its got a nice skin you can mod up and sell. Greens go on my heroes or given to guildies (many greens go for less than 5k and you'll have a pain just trying to sell anyway).
Tomes either get used or stored for later use.

Zahr Dalsk
Salvage mods, merch golds, sell rare skins at below the market price. Sell tomes or use them, depending how much I need the money or if I want an extra skill. Collect dyes.
Croco Clouds
I squeeze them in storage and mules. Don't have time to spam in spamadan.
And too lazy to take screenshots for guru auction
I want auction stall just like silkroad (hate that game due to massive grinding)

Last time I tried selling something to another player was maybe a year ago. I find that I absolutely HATE trading that way, so I either use, salvage, or merch everything. I honestly don't see how anyone can stand that wts thing for hours on end. It boggles the mind how anyone could find that FUN, when there is a whole game out there to play and enjoy.
Ruby Lightheart
unless its a really rare green or gold..i just sell to merchant...dont have time to sit there and spam trades channel. As much as i love the GW series...the only thing i hate bout it is the subpar trade system
Novalon
Lots of good responses, many of which I expected.
Apparently, the current system does not allow for any decent trade improvements. Oh, if only I could sell an item without having to stand in town.
My storage is slowly filling with Tomes, Greens, and decent Golds. I've been known to take subpar golds, and sell them for little more than merchant price to new players.
They get a "nice" item, and I get more than I usually would. For rare skins? I rarely get a hit, but I'll try selling below market price one of these days to see how well that will do. I've got an Adamantine Falchion and a Dead Sword that haven't been touched in a long time.

If something has value, but not enough to warrant sitting in an outpost for an hour, I'd probably throw it on a mule. Usually it'll stay there for some time until I either have a use for it, or another character or his/her heroes needs some equipment.
Enticing friends to help you with items that have no value to you also works.
If all else fails, the Merchant is there.
Winterclaw
Merch mostly. I rarely get something that valuable and the one item I did, I ended up customizing.
free_fall
Ya, mostly just merch it, if it isn't destroyed while salvaging a mod.
About the only time I sell to another player is if I notice a "WTB <item>" while I'm standing around town and I just happen to have one I'm willing part with.
Just yesterday, I made 6K on 30 Augmented Flesh some guy wanted for bows from a collector and was paying 200g ea for.

Racthoh
Merchant, or if a guildie wants it.
Malice Black
All my trading is done on a 2nd account. A lot of the stuff I sell ends up on this site.
Never sell anything here, too many fake bidders etc

the req 9 ones stick in my mule char, rest just merchant, not really gonna stand in town spam like hour or 2 to just sell something not even worth 5k, rahter just use the time do some more exploring or posting here
chowmein69
i send them to the merchant and give them to some people from the shing jea islands
demonblade
give perfect mods to guildies and sell everything else
Mavrik
I sell to merchants about 99.9% of the time.
Kook~NBK~
Most stuff (imperfect) goes straight to the merch.
I'm one of those "meaningless" people that sells stuff in Kamadan. But I don't waste my time getting the best price for things - I've got better things to do. By selling low, I usually manage to sell everything I want to unload within 30 minutes and make a pretty penny in the process.
When I am selling things, I've usually got 4 or 5 things for sale (sometimes more), am working on my drunkard title *hic*, and answering questions and/or chatting.

Merch all but the rarest, best stuff. That I stick in storage to "show off". I try to put greens on heroes such as Kaolin's Prot Staff and The Skullflayer. Other greens I store until I have a use for them. I periodically scan the wtb in Kamadan to see if anyone is looking for the tomes I have.

not being a farmer, and gettign mostly junk, and not knowing a good thing when i see it, i use the merchant to sell my identified items, i hoard gold items till i have a large selection that i then rip apart and modify to having a good variety and then usually sell the scrap bits.
Best item i got was a max gold platinum longbow which took me 4 months to sell at a vastly reduced price frm the recommended medium.
to be honest that is a hell of a boring way to play a game for me
so now i dont sell, and if i was goign to i woudl use guru auctions

Heroes steal them, number of heroes * number of chars = broke GW player ^^
Diddy bow
I salvage most of the things i get, i find it makes more in the long run ^^. Id merch anything that just salvages into wood though.
Crappy golds/purps get merched
only the best mods are sold
And i accually get a gold worth selling =D

White - if it's something I'm after, like for something I'm currently colelcting for, I put it in storage. Otherwise I merchant it.
Purple - If it's 'perfect' (ie req 9 inscribable) I'll keep it or give it to a hero or a friend.
Gold - Same as purple, but if it's worth selling, I'll try for a while.
Green - Same as gold.
Most of my stuff goes to friends, free. I have no patience to sit there selling stuff. I'd rather be playing the game.

purple - if it's a decent skin inscriptable and low req i'll give it away to somone who wants it in my alliance, if there's no intrest i merch it
rare - if value is above 5k, i try to sell it unless i really like the skin, if less i'll pass it to somone who wants it or towards merchant

Caster heroes: Spiritbinder/Hourglass/one of those useless goty bonus items.
Rangers: Nevermore or Darksteel.
Warriors: ThatIcySword, Serrated Shield, Rhino hammer.
Paragon: Sunspear.
Assassin: ThatPeorderDaggersNooneUses
Dervish: Soulbreaker.
All you miss is paragon shield and axe, ofc, there is better alternative to each of those bonus items, but you can equip all your heroes for free.
Rocky Raccoon
Being a guild leader, I have quiz games for the members and award items for correct answers, I usually do this through on post on our website, but also through guild chat. If I am in need of quick cash I just merchant items.
Government Flu
I've long since stopped selling all but the best of my finds on the trade channel. I find I no longer have the patience to do it. Originally, when I didn't know how to farm well, 1-5k seemed like a big deal, so I would be patient for my sale to occur. These days, I constantly decide I'd be better off to just sell to the merchant and continue farming, because I'll make money faster that way.
Oddly enough, I still have a lot of things I could sell that I never use, including staff mods, old green weapons, and consumables. I guess I'll purge another select few things when the time comes to use extra space.

Crom The Pale
These days if its not a sword/axe/shield or bow its generaly merchant fodder.
If it is one of those with a good skin and reasonable requirement I sell.
My pricing is basically based on the cost of crafting such item or purchasing a green of equal mods.
Far to often though I find I just don't have the time to sit and spam in the trade channel so ill take a quick 1-3K for a max gold item and run back to the quest/mission/dungeon I was having fun with.

Merchant 99% of the time.
Unless it's an item or a mod I take off to keep for myself.

Wow, this is more popular than I originally expected. That's a good thing, I pretty much had an ulterior motive to figure out exactly what I should do with my rapidly filling storage.
I should consider looking up which of my items is actually rare at all, maybe only bother with items that are recommended 10k or more, and leave the rest to merchant (unless there's a mod, but I don't have much luck selling those decently).
I would have expected more answers akin to the Sell Forum, but I guess Storage Clearing sales aren't as popular there, and there are a lot of pictures to upkeep as a result, of course, that is dependent on the amount of items that you are actually selling.
Still, a way to automate the sale process would help all of this immensely, but ANET is unable to do that for whatever reason.

onerabbit
put up huge sale threads here .. get about 20 pms in short of 5mins, and end up ignoring them, becuase i cant be assed to trade at the time and end up merching lol
arcady
I merchant everything.
This game has no auction house, and standing in some random town for 6+ hours to sell a charr ballpoint pen of leetness +3million is just not worth my time.
Since I have the Nightfall Collector's Edition and the Game of the Year for Prophesies, I can equip all my chars and heroes with max stat weapons by simply typing /bonus - so I also have no incentive to stand in a random town for 6+ hours trying to buy some oddball item.

Buster
If it isn't a green item then everything gets tossed to the merchant. Standing around town using the trade feature is wasting my play time.
wilebill
Gold Item, maybe 400g from merchant. But if it has a valuable mod, sell that, usually get some plat for a silencing bowstring. Of course, valuable mods I can find a use for myself. In practice, rarely sell anything to other players except dyes.
yeah_hi
Runes: If they're worth the salvage I'll sell to the trader (even Sup Vigors these days as I loathe spamming forever in Kamadan 1)
Elite Tomes: If I can't use them, offer to guildies first, otherwise sell in town at a low enough price to get a quick sale.
Non-Elite Tome: Use them or offer to guildies.
Golds: Salvage perfect mods and either use them or offer to guildies. Ruthlessly merchant everything else unless it's a rare skin that I can sell easily for a decent amount.
Dyes: Hoard. I don't know why!
Greens: Use on a hero, offer to guildies or sell in town if it's something popular.
Rare materials: Keep unless I have a full stack already.
Everything else: Merchant food.

me - wts perfect "strength and honor" inscription 2k
some smuck - ill give you 1.5k for it
wtf?
stuff that like really irks me. eventually, someone will just take it for my advertised price but having to deal with "lowballers", "power-traders" or "outpost homers" gets to be annoying.
i merch almost everything except for perfect mods and the occasional rare gold item. nowadays, i always sell below market value so i dont end up spending too much time spamming.
