GW uses Punkbuster?
Eragon Dragonslayer
I was playing guildwars and was starting to lag and decided to see if it was my comp that was lagging so i opened up running processes and lo and behold i saw Punkbuster running while Gw was running....none of my games use punkbuster and so i came to the conclusion that GW was using it...Is this true?

Are you serious? This would probably explain the IMMENSE lag I've been suffering...but isn't PunkBuster usually just for FPS's? are you sure you don't have it installed just for that?

Some instructions on how to uninstall it, I have mine left over from FEAR, I'm going to uninstall and report back if any lag issues are solved.

Also helps too...I dunno any further than that.
After having uninstalled, I noticed a SIGNIFICANT increase in FPS, but my lag is still up there, but I did gain like 10-15 frames...which makes no sense, but sweet.

Wow, never seen that before, and I've got Battlefield 1942, Battlefield 2, Battlefield 2142, Star Wars: Battlefront, Star Wars: Battlefront 2 and Star Wars: Republic Commando on my computer.

Battlefield 2142 uses punkbuster.
Even when it isnt running, go to applications and shut it down.

Guild Wars doesn't use any 3rd party anti-cheats like Punkbuster.
Oh, by the way, Eragon stinks. (The movie.. And the book.)

I frequently check system processes while playing to stop the auto-scandisk. Punkbuster is never running.

Use Task Manager to turn it off, and if it helps, sweet, if not, all well.
GW doesn't have to actually use it, for it to create lag. All Punkbuster would have to do is use bandwidth from your connection, that's bandwidth GW cannot use if Punkbuster has an active connection to the nets.

Hi, i play bf2(mods) next to GW. And there is a new PB update for FPS games, you ll probabely see punkbuster A exe, in your taskmanager. This proces makes a handshake(i didnt make up the name) with a punkbuster B exe, wenn you gonna play bf2(or other fps using PB).
This is part of the new PB update, wich gives massive disconnections ect ect(a shitload of crap!). The proces is(i think) harmless, although it is constantly running. Problem is if you remove the process(permanent) you wont be able to play the PB servers for bf2,2142,MOH, ect ect
PB is crap!! bf2 and 2142 are invested by cheaters.............sry couldent resist

GW doesn't use spy.. err punkbuster BUT the PnkBstrA.exe starts automatically when windows is booting and runs as a service in background which is using system resources and may cause lag on certain pcs
