If you really must bring a pet...
You could always make it your bitch for Splinter Weapon.
... or you could Barrage with Splinter Weapon (truth be told, no Marksmanship needed)

Basically...
[skill]splinter weapon[/skill] > PvE

There really aren't any, the rest of the bar is entirely optional. That's why a worthless pet can fit in there without doing too much damage.Take some channeling direct damage spells, restoration heals, channeling spirits, ranger interrupts or spirits, it really doesn't matter much. Splinter + barrage is a pretty useful combo that you can spend most of your time on.

I wouldn't recommend splintering a pet, as they have fairly slow attack speed. If you're going with the "splinter something else" idea, you might as well just splinter the physicals on your team and bring more utility.

As a final note, pets are nearly worthless on almost any class except a primary ranger, as beastmastery skills tend to be too expensive to use well. I would strongly consider making a ranger if you feel the need to have a pet, otherwise it will be a mobile skill disabler that takes up two slots.

I bring my bear around every now and again for fun, but to be honest I don't use him that often to really get damage done.

I'll bring [skill]Ancestors' Rage[/skill] to blast off of him though, whenever he's around someone.

When I'm just goofing off (not to actually be effective, although I can be):
[skill]Barrage[/skill][skill]Splinter Weapon[/skill][skill]Ancestors' Rage[/skill][skill]Charm Animal[/skill][skill]Comfort Animal[/skill][skill]Call of Protection[/skill] - Optional - [skill]Resurrection Signet[/skill], where the Optional slot is filled with a fun PvE skill like "Finish Him!" or Pain Inverter.

[skill]Splinter Weapon[/skill][skill]Barrage[/skill][skill]Distracting Shot[/skill]+anything (don't forget to bring zealous bow)
[skill]Spirit's Strength[/skill][skill]vital weapon[/skill][skill]Dual Shot[/skill][skill]Volley[/skill]
[skill]Serpent's Quickness[/skill][skill]Attuned Was Songkai[/skill]+anything
You can put pet somewhere in your bar but it's not gonna be useful tbh.

what i use for Tombs and SF is this:
Rt/R
16 Channeling
11 Marksmanship
2 Beast Mastery
rest in Restoration

Splinter Weapon
Barrage {E}
Warmongers Weapon(cant be switched out, just useful for interupting casters)
Spirit Light
Destruction
Comfort Animal
Charm Animal
Flesh of My Flesh

use splinter weapon as much as possible along with barrage, when up against a caster, focus on the caster and use Warmongers Weapon to almost stop their casting alltogether. place destruction 10-15 seconds before pulling so it dies around the same time the group gets to you, damaging most of them to around 75%hp.

Out of curiousity, WHY is a pet "worthless" for a Rit/R? Seems to me a person could use weap spells on the pet and do considerable damage that way. At least, in theory.

Would that transform your pet, like it would transform your weapon?

I'd rather cast my Splinters on a warrior or someone who can do real damage with them.

I see. SO, when my "worthless", slow and mentally challenged pet is out whooping serious arse with his weapon spells applied - which does not preclude those same spells being applied to warriors, etc. in the party, as well, 5 sec burn time not withstanding - he's still worthless ......... because you choose not to use that style of play and because you say so.

Gotcha.

At 16 Channeling, Splinter Weapon takes effect on the next 5 attacks of your target. It recharges in 5 seconds, and a pet can't make 5 attacks in 5 seconds. So to make the most of your Splinter Weapon, it's best used on a Warrior with an IAS or anyone with AoE attacks to get as many "Splinters" per cast as you can.

So, if you have the choice of a Pet OR a Warrior, go for the warrior. But I don't see why taking a Pet in your build would be bad. Arcane Echo+Splinter Weapon for spamming it on several attackers could be fun.

Yes, he's worthless. Pets have slow attack speed, low damage without 12 beastmastery, and skills too expensive for you to use. Those same buff could go just as well on your physicals who are already tearing things to pieces, making them even more overpowered. Give one good reason why splintering a pet is better than splintering your physicals.

You can usually keep two people splintered up normally. I suppose arcane echo would work if you had 4+ physicals in your party and nothing else to spend time on, but I've never thought it that necessary. If you echo anything, I'd suggest ancestor's rage. I tend to take a triple chop Koss and Reaper's Sweep dervish to trigger my splinters. They kill stuff. Fast. If I'm grouping, there's almost always a couple physicals around, seeing as warrior is the most popular class in the game.
