Dwarven Armor: Work in Progress?

Well, I just beat GWEN a little while ago. It's a great little expansion my minor quirks about this or that aside. It was really nice to finally check out where the charr came from, the southern portions of the maguma jungles, and the far shiverpeaks in all their glory. It was very solid storywise it tied up a ton of loose ends, it felt like a very nice fanservice as it should have. EoTN accomplished what it set out to do. I'm still working on the loads of dungeons I missed (or skipped :P). The dungeon system is executed flawlessly, I love being able to repeat them for the rewards at the end at my leisure. I really hope they carry this aspect into Guild Wars 2, because I really do hate farming. And although you could call a repeated dungeon crawl a "farm" it's really not the same. Farming needs a very specific set up almost always leaving some classes out of the farm entirely and then needs a flawless execution of the farm. Repeatedly. For about 50 times to be profitable. But that's my exaggeration. As any class I can just build a team for dungeon A and get it done sometimes in less then an hour, for a reward that could be worth in upwards of 10K+ in one or two runs. I can screw up without it being damnable, and I just enjoy the feel and the company on a good dungeon run.

Onto one of my little quirks; Dwarven Armor. This is the armor you craft from Gobrech Stonefoot in the Central Transfer Chamber, one of the last areas in the game if you follow the story. So essentially this is EoTN's end game armor. So my question is why isn't it finished? I read into it for a little while and I got from most sources that it was meant to be unfinished to promote armor set mixing. So then this leads to another question. If that's so, why do a number of classes have a complete dwarven set (warriors get two sets I believe) and others have an incomplete set? Then, why can't the players who have a complete set add their end game armor to the HoM? I guess it's not game breaking but it's costly and personal on my end or anyone else that decides to try this set and discover a piece or two missing. I don't fancy myself as an in game version of Giorgio Armani playing mix and match the armor pieces, but I am a completist when it comes to games. The mix option is there for people that would want to do that, that's fine even thoughtful. But it's irritating to know I can't finish this set for me and there's not a damn thing I can do about it. I don't like that my only option is to mix it. I want the option to have a complete set like most of the other classes have. Maybe some HoM love. I paid elite armor status for an incomplete set, and I may just throw it away/salvage the thing for some materials back. Damn dwarves swindled me. =/

What do you think about this? I could look past the HoM thing based on the different names of the armor pieces being a "this generation" armor set something special for GW1, I might have even bought the "made to mix and match" idea if so many other classes didn't have complete dwarven sets. That's what confused me to begin with. I looked at all these other classes thinking it a complete set like any other just to understand that my current class is the exception... I keep telling myself maybe the armor isn't done? Will it be amended in a future update? Or are some classes just screwed out of an armor set?

It was an interesting idea and it failed.

I was disappointed too...amour mixing would've been interesting if they had set armours up in a way that it doesn't look so obvious that you are mixing them. It is a rare occasion that you see someone with mixed armour and it doesn't make me laugh.

And yes for endgame armour it really is just too disappointing. Those armour pieces should've been in a neutral location that you could get without needing any rep.

Soon half the people will look like they've been sticking their hands in nuclear waste once too often...I am just waiting for a wammo with chaos gloves, a differently coloured chaos axe and a tormented shield...

If I wanted to "mix and match" armor, I would have used the armor that Dwarven is reskinned after.

I agree more or less with what cthulhu has to say; and despite my defense of dwarven armor elsewhere (I really like the fem monk handwraps xD), I am disappointed in the fact that some professions don't even get a full "set." Armor mixing is alright sometimes, but to me the big limiting factor is how the dyes interact. One color seldom looks the same on two sets, making them even more awkward to coordinate. I'll probably pick up the dwarf set just to round out my collection, but I'm not sure yet what I'm going to do with it or what the dyes will look like on it.

Would have been much better if they were sets that were similar to different classes. Such as being able to wear a Dervish skirt or Warrior plate on a ranger. As it is, they are just slightly different reskins of previous armour that don't match up with anything.

GW:EN isn't finished yet, they still need to introduce Hard Mode so who knows what else will come along with that update. (Elite Mission, some new features, Vanguard Mini Game, bug fixes?)

I have yet to see an armour set where the dragon gauntlets DON'T look ugly....

I for one am hoping that a future update will surprise us with new updated armour models AND skins. Kinda like how it took ANET several months to add and update all of the prophecies elite armour sets. Here's hoping....

I keep hearing the term "reskin" applied to Dwarven armor. Someone enlighten me and tell me what previous skin was used for the female Ritualist Dwarven armor.

PS: Dragon guantlets look great with it.

It all boils down to personal preference, some people like it some don't. Same with anything.

I've already seen a picture of that on here shortly after GW:EN came out...

Also, I wish they'd fix Silver Eagle. I'd get my warrior a set if it could be added to the HoM...

I'd like it, if it was finished. Looks good so far.

top = kurzick 15k
skirt = imperial 1.5k
boots = obsidian
gloves = there aren't any, since this is not only not a matching set, but not a full set. /grumble

I got asuran for my rit.. maybe it's the pics available, but dwarven is one of the ugliest armors in the whole game imo, and that's saying a lot, considering.

I was very disappointed with the dwarven as well seeing as it could not be added to HoM and not a full set. I was planning on getting it but then decided against it. IMO it would be a waste of money. I really hope its something Anet will fix in a future update. I LOVE GWEN but I must say I was disappointed with the armor.

Yeah... I agree with LethalHands. I think mixing and matching is nice... but... meh.. Not everyone is like that. I give Anet mad props for what they've done so far, so why not make it even BETTER, eh?

I already like to mix and match, but I see no point to the dwarven armor pieces. They simply don't match any other armor set in most cases. What am I supposed to do, wear the stand-alone pieces without any other armor on?

It would have worked much better had they designed the pieces to go with an existing armor set, and made it clear by the name. Then, for example, we could have a chest piece that goes with an existing armor set but is in a somewhat different style from it.

No, instead they make these pieces with very clear patterns that don't match any other armor, so it's obvious that they don't mix well. The existence of patterns is one of the reasons I find it practically impossible to mix and match any ele armor.

Well, I like my Male Monk dwarven armor dyed white with Asura Tinted Spectacles. But it would be nice if I could put it in HoM. Doesn't matter though so much for me anymore, I have basically stopped playing GWs.
