Hi.
My nickname in almost everywhere in internet/online games etc. is "Tatum".
Still, I named my ele "Mian Firestorm". These days ele is one of my favourite characters, but too bad, no-one knows me as Tatum.
I asked Anet, that it is possible to change my IGN, but they answered that they are unable to change it.
Now I ask your opinion, should it be possible to change "in game nick"?
And, sorry my bad english.

Odd, few months ago they were planning on doing this, guess they changed their mind.
But still, it has many downsides and few good sides so I think it's best for them to not come up with a name change system.
Note: Arena Net does allow you to change your name if your name is offensive in any way, but don't try to abuse this as you will need some proof and a dozen people reporting you.

What bugs me is when people change characters when you're whispering them, and you have to go to the trouble of opening the friends list and re-select their name.
A system whereby you can assign a nickname to someone would be a nice plan. That way you wouldn't need to change their name every time they switched character, you could just use the associated "nickname" to whisper them. My brother, for instance, has most of his characters named "The <Profession> Shaman". I could "assign" him a nickname in my friends list as "Shaman"...which would by-pass having to re-select his character every time he needs to "Sort out his inventories".

I just want all characters to have same surname instead different ones. Scammer? You can just do that by making new character straight to Kamadan. Also if you put him in your friend list, his account will be in your list even though that person no longer has the character name you add (quite common with pvp characters keep changing the names). Still not convinced? Then add heavy grind so its not easy to change name.

For all of those people yelling about scammers abusing it, just do what City of Heroes/Villains did. Charge real world money for it, only give each character three free changes.
Keep records of name changes with specific dates and times. So if someone was scamming at a specific date it would be easy to look up which account had the name when it happened. If you do that, it won't be necessary to charge but it could bring in extra revenue for ANet and deter scammers from using it a lot.
Name changing isn't a big priority for a lot of players.
