Automatically pick up loot

Hi,

My suggestion is: have an option in the Game tab of the options (F11) to enable the loot to be automatically picked up whenever it's dropped (if there's room in the inventory of course). This option would be unticked by default (same behavior as currently) and one could drop items he doesn't like (but I guess he would untick the option if it was too annoying, i.e. when inventory is almost full at the beginning of an instance).

I guess on the one hand it would make things a bit too easy for bots, but on the other hand it'd be nicer for real players too

Opinions?

This system works very well in Tabula Rasa, and I aggree that it should be adopted in Guild Wars

So if I implement this my character will keep running up to pick up drops? No thank you, I prefer to keep something between me and certain axe/sword/hammer related deaths.

There's no reason for this. If you're really concerned about missing drops, press ; after every battle to automatically target any drops. Bots already use that to pick up loot.

No, of course not! That would be non-sense and probably very annoying in the middle of a combat.

In my mind, this was a "the loot is automatically added to your inventory" feature, not a "your character automatically walks to the loot to pick it up" one. I know exactly how to pick up all the loot I need, but it would make things a bit easier. I thought about this feature when realising that this is exactly what is done when the loot is assigned to your heroes/henchmen.

And once more, this would be optional, and turned off by default. So the "thanks no thanks"-ers wouldn't see it

That right there is why it should not, and will not be done. There's a reason loot drops on the ground first, it makes it so that you have to survive long enough to be able to pick it up.

Press the spacebar after you kill a mob or two. Your character will pick up the loot. And if you want to pick up loot while fighting well...I hope you don't do many PUG's.

On that side note, experienced adventurers will be able to pick up loot close by while fighting.

All in all, there's no need to implement this suggestion.

I meant that simply walking within a certain proximity(like the current grabbing proximity) will allow you to pick up loot. Really simple, no funny business, and you can turn it off if you want.

Before I discovered Guild Wars I played a game called sacred.

There was an option to pick up treasure by pressing one key, you could also configure it to pick up just money and if memory serves all items or rare items.

I don't find it much of a hassle at the moment as it is but if offered I would use it.

Ok, as long as you add checkboxes to choose exactly what do you want to pick:

[X] Gold
[ ] Common items.
[ ] Magical common items
[X] Uncommon items
[X] Rare items
[X] Unique items
[X] Other (Event, Expendables, etc...)

AND as long as the picking it's not 'instant' like when you earn hero armor pieces in the challenges, but make it so you hit a button and the client keeps picking them for you until there are no more in the area.

Bah, buts just smap 'Select nearest item, then Space', so they actually don't need this.

They pick everything and sell everything, anyways.

I was waiting for that kind of answer ...

If you like so much to type a maximum number of keys, then do not look at this feature. Would it harm you? Do you fear to be surrounded soon by GW populations of lazy people "requesting" to type less?

I'd much rather have the ANet team devote their time to improving gameplay or something.

Personally, I think this is a very good idea. I've lost count of items that I cannot pick up because of their location, a lot of them being golds, Ie, in a wall? How do Foes get in a wall anyway?

PS: To all who disagree, there's more than one reason to have this implemented. Stop looking at the lazy side of it and start looking at the broad spectrum.

Actually, I wouldn't mind this. There's been a few times my treasure dropped where I couldn't reach it, and more than once I've lost gold items and rare scrolls because of retards in Glint's cavern who couldn't stand to wait the three or four seconds it'd take to make sure everyone had their facet drops.

It won't bother me if it doesn't get implemented, but it'd be very nice to have in some instances.
