Ive been playing the game for quite some time now, and just recently realized that one aspect of the game I do not really know anything about is identifying items to increase their value. so i have a few questions for the players experienced with this:

what items do you identify? (color, type, ect.)

what ID kit? (normal or superior)

thanks alot

All colored items will see a price increase when you ID them. However, items from higher-level enemies gain more than ones from lower-level enemies - items from really weak enemies don't gain value at all. So long as you're in level 20+ areas, you'll be making money from IDing stuff.

Superior kits are the same as normal kits, they just have more uses for less space and more cost per ID.

White items don't really increase in value very much when identified, but blue, purple, and gold items do increase in value a good bit.

Everything increases in value if it is not identified. Purple items get a 2x multiplier, and gold items get a 4x multiplier. Blue items have a chance of having a "Show me the money!" inscription, which increases the items value to merchants.

Personally, I ID everything because I know on average I'll get more than the 5 gold it costs to ID (Superior ID kit).

Wrong. IDing white items not only increases their value, but they often become more expensive than blue items. Test it at the merchant yourself if you don't believe me. Purple and Gold items however, will always be worth more than white and blues.

Just identify everything that you get from level 18+ monsters. IDing stuff from old ascalon in NM will actually result in gold lost though, since it usually increases in value from 2g to 3g...

I've seen 20+g increases in white value from underworld, FoW, and other high-level areas. Then again, sometimes it's less than 10...still more than the money spent on the ID kit.

IDing anything from the level 20+ areas will gain you more than the cost of using the ID kit. Whites and blues may only gain 5 or 10g at times, but they may also gain 50-75g in value at other times. It's been my experience that most times they go up 20-25g.

EDIT: I just went out and tested it, we were both right. When IDing armor remnants and the like, the increase is minuscule. But when IDing a weapon that is close to max, the increase is greater, ~20g.
