- Under the first system if you earn your 2k at 4am one day, then 5am the next day, on the 3rd day you won't be able to earn any till 5am
- Under the second you will be able to earn faction on the 3rd day at 4am unless the reset happens between 4am and 5am, in which case you would of missed a full day of earning faction. You also get the possibility of earning more than 2k in one sitting if your sitting passes through the reset time. It also requires less server resources because you aren't tracking the reset time for every account, so its the implementation I'd go with if I had to chose between them.
The chat I have blocked is a discussion between me and the PUG I got to leech faction from me*. He hit his cap on my 6th round, but remained for the 7th round before leaving. I'm on American servers playing from the American district 1. I usually farm the zaishen starting at about 07:00 GMT, but today I decided to start at about 09:00 GMT.
I was sitting between 4900 and 5000 (this is from memory, I can't be more accurate) faction before going into the Zaishen challenge shortly before 09:00 GMT today. Eight rounds later, at about 09:15 I noticed that I had earned faction for getting a flawless victory on that round, which doesn't usually happen because the cap kicks in during the victory faction. So I played another round and still got faction. I kept entering the Zaishen challenge until it stopped earning faction at the end of my 15th round, which gave me points for a flawless. My 16th round earned my no faction at all. In this session I earned between 3'792 and 3'892 faction.
I see only three ways for this to of happened:
1 - A bug in the faction cap system that I somehow triggered.
2 - ANET's changed the cap without telling us.
3 - The faction cap at the Zaishen got reset between the end of my 7th round (the pug would of noticed suddenly earning faction), but before the NPC's started dying on my 8th round. Thus putting the reset sometime between 09:00 and 09:15GMT (it may take time for it to reset all accounts, and our clocks aren't likely to be in sync, so your exact time will vary). After a quick estimate of the time each round takes, I'd say between 09:10 and 09:15 by my watch.
Case 2 seems unlikely as the new cap isn't a multiple of 1'000 and I haven't heard anything else about it. More testing would be needed to decide between case 1 and 3 and I really can't be bothered doing the testing myself. I only noticed this because I got lucky.
*My build for the Zaishen Challenge allows me to take along someone who can be AFK as I earn the faction for both of us. If you want to know the build PM me and I will tell you (or point me to a thread of someone asking), but I don't want to discuss it in this thread.
