Energy ran out on a warrior? Were you spamming [skill]Chilblains[/skill] or something? I can't see how you couldn't beat it with a riposte spammer, as long as you don't stand withing range of the spirits then you're fine
arcanemacabre
This quest is a lot tougher now that they fixed the griffon getting stuck. I am having a ton of trouble on my warrior, now. I tried spirit spamming, but he now tends to hover in the middle where he spawns, and it's a lot harder to pull him into a spirit barricade now. When I can get him into my spirits, I can get him down to about 1/3 health, like you say, and I run out of energy and he runs to heal back up among his barricade of spirits. It's like a massive clash of strategy.
So yeah, agreed, any help is appreciated.

anyone? anyone? Bueller? Bueller? =P
any tips to this one, or just wait a lil bit and see if they adjust this quest?

[skill]spiritual pain[/skill] I know this costs 10e, but if you pace yourself enough you should be able to take him down with tihs, if you don't pace yourself, he'll regen as you try to regain energy
FelixCarter
I tried Spiritual Pain a couple times. He runs around too much for it to be effective.
I think this is suppose to be one of those crasy challenges like with the Ooze that multiply forever instantly.
Just abandon the quest. Problem solved.

It's easy with Consume Soul skill.

Spiritual Pain would be good if you target the spirit next to him and could withstand the barrage from the spirits.
I don't have a warrior myself, but why not try the interrupt/KD method as a warrior since he lacks spells and rituals take time to complete:
Distracting Strike, Distracting Blow, Grapple and whatever other interrupt you might have like Savage Slash or Disarm.
Griffon's Sweep or Leviathan's Sweep for damage and/or another KD.
Flourish to recharge the batteries.
Your favorite heal, in case of emergency non interruption issues.
Optional slot.
Cheers,
TB

Grenth's Balance stance tank.
Grenth's Balance, Wary Stance, Shield Stance, Defensive Stance, Healing Signet, [strong weapon attack] and 2 optionals.
If you want to add Ripostes, the strong weapon attack should be Final Thrust.
OR you could use Consume Soul as in the above posts.

Does anybody have a build for a Necro/Ranger for this quest? x.x I don't have the money to go necro/Rit and spam spirits. (and I haven't done sh*t in factions on my necro yet, so any elites that aren't in GWEN won't be gotten any time soon.)

/Sigh...
I tried the quest again with Vamperism (Sunspear Title Track) and Pain Inverter (Asuran Title Track).
Beat him after running back and forth for a while.
Quest is obsurd, if you ask me.

It has gotten stupidly hard now. Anet has again gone the opposite direction with a fix and over-corrected. Now he doesn't get stuck, he just runs around like a chicken with his head cut off.
I am a dervish and trying various builds including a rit spirit build with summon spirits, but he just high tails it.
"Abandon quest, problem solved"? yeah, if you don't want the skill that is rewarded.

You'll have to resort to abandonment with some professions. Ever try beating the Griffon with a Paragon?
ANet believes all the classes a perfectly balanced.
Dervish = Elementalist
Monk = Warrior
Ritualist = Paragon
That's why it's a solo quest, just like the Norn Arena.
If you can't solo it, then people are going to tell you, "You're doing it wrong."

For me, all the solo missions of EotN were easily completed by turning myself into a spirit casting ritualist. The tournament, the griffon, the bear club, it always worked for me.
Switch secondary to ritualist, all attributes go into communing and channeling. Use a +energy staff. Skillset:
Skills 1,2 and 3: Attack spirits Pain, Bloodsong, Vampirism. Long durations, long range, lots of damage.
Skill 4: Painful bond: double the damage from the spirits.
Skill 5: Summon spirits: mostly used for the tournament (so you can cast the spirits first and get them all in range at the same time)
Skill 6&7: Shadowsong and Disenchantment: these are primarily used in the tournament to deal with enchant tanks and heavy melee. With painful bond, they become a secondary source of damage.
Skill 8: Ursan blessing. Optional, really, but once you've put up all the spirits, you might as well get this for added survivability, extra ranged damage, knockdown and some added speed for dodging.
Set up the 3 main spirits, add a conditional spirit or painful bond, turn on Ursan blessing, then keep knocking the griffon down and damaging it.

^ Please note that the quest has obviously been changed.
Has anyone tried Consume Soul with this after the new update? How about Gaze of Fury?

PvE skill Dwarven Stability help extend your stance skill. Also bring a shutdown/interupt skill like disrupting chop for some of those annoying spirit like shadow song and dissonace.Just intteurpt the binding ritual skill is not enough since this guy got Ritual lord.
Maybe tired the Unlimit KD build Brawling Headbutt(Another PvE skill)+
Dragon slash + Fail. This should prevent Grffon to spawn any spirits.

Trying the spirit method as a warrior is well and good, but once you are able to summon 3-5 spirits you are toast on energy and your regen is so slow that you are neutered for a good while, during which the stupid griffon does his thing. I even went so far as to do a +27 -1 and a totem axe in order to get 50ish energy and then had to switch into debt to do anything about regen. In the end, it is definately not a good deal for a warrior, and interupts really dont help much with him having rit lord. One of the things i did was Ursan Blessing which helped considerably because you are able to not worry about blind while using the "melee" skill. as well as being able to interupt him
Ruby Lightheart
not sure if htis will work for you but what i did was hit him with interrupts and crippled him then used an energy degen..he cant cast spirts without energy
Mystic Reaper
ok, got him this time, ty for the stance tank idea Kale. took 1 try.
i used -- Grenths balance, Defensive stance, Shield stance, Bonettis defence, Deadly riposte, Riposte, Final thrust, Heal sig.
time your heal sig around half health, while in shield stance or under bonettis defense. it did a good jub blocking the spirits with enough time for me to move from their range while keeping the griffin on me.
if u get really low on health and look in danger of dying, hit grenths balance, then bonettis, then heal sig, then your ripostes. gl all and thx again.

I would like to note that I did this today on my new Rt (duh) but anyone should be able to with the same build tho of course 2regen classes will have more problem.
Wanderlust - Dissonance - Anguish - Pain - Gaze of Fury - Painful Bond - Summon Spirits - <Signet of Capture ;p>
Summon Spirits and Gaze of Fury is key. He can't kite from spirits if the spirits move.

Poison Arrow (elite)
use a longbow and run a little if he starts to move towards you.
ok, so it's boring, but it's guaranteed to work.

I was able to do it with the d/rt spirit spike finally.
Dissonance is the key and maybe Move Like a Dwarf.
Vampirism, Bloodsong, Shadowsong, Pain, Dissonance, Summon Spirits, Painful Bond, Move Like a Dwarf.
Cast all your spirits outside his range. Get up to him, get his agro and hit summon spirits. Dissonance will keep him interrupted on the initial set while you do painful bond. A bit of luck will help. Move like a dwarf to help keep him from moving while trying to spike him, either that or use "Finish Him" instead.

I beat him as a warrior with a pretty standard grenths riposte warrior build.
Grenths Balance, Both Ripostes, Dolyaks, Healsig, Necrosis, Bonnettis , Final thrust ~ at least thats what I think I used.
Just stay out of the way of dissonance and its gg

This is another one of those quests that silly easy for some professions and much harder for others.
My Rit tore him apart converting his own spirits with Gaze of Fury and dropped a few of my own spirits.
My war had an easy time to, just crippled and interupted him. Gaze of Fury was good to have on him too, took out the shadowsong spirit then just interupted him from recasting it.

Yeah, unfortunately it's a lot harder for a Derv to take him down now. This is what I run, and I've gotten him to barely a sliver of life before he Ritual Lords and drops the more annoying spirits first.
Earth Prayers 12
Tactics 12
1. Auspicious Parry
2. Riposte
3. Deadly Riposte
4. Mirage Cloak
5. Vital Boon
6. Mystic Regeneration
7. Faithful Intervention
8. Thrill of Victory
It's just a matter of luck mostly. I've tinkered around with a lot of other builds but this is the most reliable thus far. Oh, and don't even try to 130 him. Stupid Dissonance.....;_;
Why you hate us Dervs Anet? Why?

Don't tell me I have to go and cap Grenth's Balance for this as I am having a hard time with my Warrior and Ranger tried with apply an interrupts and used cripshot. The thing is these spirits just keep interrupting me asand I used decent build on my warrior with savage slash, disrupting blow, sever, gash, galrath slash and skull crack and my Ranger dshot.savage shot.cripshot and apply poison as well as lighting reflexes.I can understand why most HAers complain about Rit Spikes.
I really get interrupted when using my healing signet. This thing as way to many spirits on it.

What is good for a Ranger and a Warrior and I not sure about a Monk an Ele would have easy time of it?

odd i beat him pretty easily with a standard full attack build (with a heal). only think i didnt do the first few times was kit his spirits. i forgot i could do that. so i basically let him cast away dodging his spirits and then after he casted them all i pulled him and fought him like that and when he casted new spirits i moved. and did the same thing.

Dwarven Battle Stance + Dwarwen Stability and Adios Amigo! He Will Just Stand There as a Sheep. If u have low rank, use Renewing Smash.

I'm trying to do a perm knockdown - will this work ?
1) Enraging charge
2) Move like a dwarf
3) Dolyak Signit -> this is for grapple in a minute
4) For great Justice
5) Grapple
6) Devastating Hammer
7) Brawling Headbutt
8) Vampirism (bit of healing)
I would cycle through 1-7 , reapply the knockdown once he has been up for a second or two , never let a spirit get summond
please pull it to bits kindly

Just stay out of the way of dissonance and its gg I finally beat him today with a similar build - I'd tried W/Rt , W/rgr even W/E
(wasted 10k on skills)
took me 4 attempts with this build (first three where close though)
Grenths Balance, Both Ripostes, savage slash , dwarven headbutt ,
some pulling with a longbow - took 3 uses of Grenths to do it - what a relief

I went with dwarven battle stance hammer, with renewing smash, you need a bit of timing but if you manage to do it, it's easy.

-T I'd still go Grenth's Balance. Go up to a side of the hill on your right - let him drop his spirits - pull him with a long bow (because of elevation your long bow will go further than his spirits can fire) - let him beat on you for a while and then hit him with Grenths when your either low on health or he is about to cast a new spirit. Then run away out of range.
Repeat.
When his health gets low you will have to change tactics - I'd hit him with some sort of slowing spell when you have pulled him from the spirits and as he slowly makes his way either towards you or back towards his spirits hit him with your hardest none elite damage dealers - if they also give any sort of degeneration so much the better

Wouldn't some degen (siphon/phantasm/poison) + Dwarven Battle Stance's interrupt + Counterblow + Move like a dwarf (another surefire interrupt just in case for Shadow Song) work? Some variation of this anyway. Forgive me for speaking out of turn, but I was just thinking about this and it seems logical anyhow.

Has anyone done it with an Ele/Rt?
Or should I just try to build it out on my 2ndary skills? (As a Ritualist)
I am thinking this is a good skill to cap.
I figure if I am going to all this trouble, to get it done, I should not pass up the opp to get an elite out of it as well.

Here is how I beat that Glacial Griffon once and for all, actually last night (Sorry I am not at my home computer so there may be a few inaccuracies)
Elementalist / Necro build:
Summon Jagged Horror (Main skill) spam it near the dead wolves
Summon Bone Minion (Replace with any other summon skill as desired)
Meteor Storm
Firestorm
Decaying Flesh
Vile Mesemia
Move like a Dwarf (GWEN)
Glyph of Restoration (So you can heal as you cast fire)
I **think** those were the skills.... basically the minions really hold him in place initially... then knock him down with Move like a Dwarf every chance you get... and then AOE the fire asap... then set Decay and Vile on him (so his degen will multiply).... run as needed... heal alittle... rinse and repeat...
The key is the minions... right when you start... get the minons going... and summon one every chance you get.
Dead Griffon FTW!
