A few questions i need help with...

Hey, i recieved a netgear wireless router from a friend who had 2 and he gave me this for free, i wanted to use it to connect my upstairs computor wth my downstairs one wirelessly(nt sure if this is a word) anywho i wanted to know how do i know whether the usb stick i have can do it or is it a specific usb stick that i need to plug in to connect and do they differ for each type of modem?

I have a bluetooth dongle as well and i wanted to know if this could be used a connector to connect to wireless internet?

1 last question if i do have a correct usb connector how do i set it up to connect with a modem in another room?

Most wireless routers support some version of the 802.11 wireless network standards, so if your USB stick does, too, there shouldn't be any problems with that.

Probably not. Bluetooth is generally used for short-range communication between things like your cellphone and your computer.

You need to connect your computer to the router via wire first, then configure the router to accept wireless connections, and set up a secure login for yourself so you can access it without someone snooping on your Internet connection. WPA-PSK security should be enough for a home setup. Then just configure Windows or whatever you're using to log on to the wireless network with the login specified in the router's configuration. You can probably find plenty of help for this with Google.

1 final question though, ive seen PCI's cards that have like a antena(simalar to the one's on wireless routers) would this also be used to conect wirelessly instead of a stick? if so whats the advantages/disadvantages over this method?

Yes those are also used to connect to a wireless network. No need to get one though, if your USB stick thingy works properly.

personal preferance mostly. if you have a spacre pci slot and need the usb slot for another deivce then the pci is better etc

My experience is that the PCI wireless adapter has better range than the USB stick. The only disadvantage to have a PCI version is that it useses a SLOT,but the same can be said about the USB stick (it takes up a USB port) and it may cost just a little bit more for the card. If you already have the stick and it is working for you, then save your money. If you start to notice brownouts on your connection, then you may see increased performance by switching to a PCI version.
