Basically, I can't get avatars to work, and it was fine yesterday when I changed mine. Today however, whenever I try to upload a new one, I get a message saying "cannot save avatar".
Is this a temporary glitch and is anyone else experiencing the same problem?

Ya, when the site got back up my avatar was gone as well, it displayed as if there was one but it wasn't backed up when server was moved (so it was missing).
I have tried to add it back, but I keep getting an error as well.
My avatar is 140x140 but it is less than 19.5 KB. I was able to display it before, don't see why the size would be a problem now.

It needs to be 100x100 or less. I don't know if it was changed recently but that's the requirement now.

Mine are always 100x100, JPEG and less than 19.5 kb, so I don't know what the problem is.

I just resized and tried to upload. 100x100 and 3.91 KB. "Unable to save avatar" same error I was getting earlier, I assume same error other users are getting.

I'm having the same problem. I just now created an image to use, and have not had one previously. My image is 100 x 100 pixels, and a little less than 7kb. I am getting the same "Unable to save avatar" message.

I tried again this evening, with both JPEG and PNG file types but still no luck. I'm wondering if an administrator on the site has changed something. I think someone with an avatar needs to try and change theirs to see if they experience the same problem.

Checking into it still. All the permissions are correct, there are staff, guru select members and registered users with avatars so not sure why it's affecting some and not others.

Unless that backup happened earlier today, doubt that's the problem.. :) I signed up earlier this morning and haven't been able to use an avatar since. Tried multiple file formats and made sure each fits the guidelines. Weirdness.

avatars are stored in files on the server. I still have to update the files 6GB of the site, once thats done i will enable the uploading permissions on the server.

same here, avvy's ok but just poofs away when i load a new page.
reuploading does not help and some of other people's avatars are gone too

I just tried to upload my avatar, no error, but doesn't seem to be showing up. Same problem it originally had.
It's like the image isn't in the proper directory, or it's looking in the wrong dir.

I'm seeing a question mark box where all the new avatars should be, but only Kong's actually says "Kong's avatar". Karyuu, Witchblade, and Midnight Harmony only have the question mark box. Those who had avatars before still show up fine. I haven't tried to upload my avatar again yet, but will try once I get home.

Alright, I uploaded mine and can see it in this thread, but all of the other people that are trying to get their avatars have a broken link box where their avatar should be.

I just got on and my avatar was displayed as a broken link, but I reloaded it and it fixed that. Try reloading your avatar if it is not working properly. As for witchblades screenie, sorry I never saw anything like that. Now I see Midnight Harmony's avatar, but several others that I could see before now show up as a broken link.

Here's the deal now. I just tested this. I uploaded my avatar, then closed down Internet Explorer. I come back now (five minutes later), and I get the broken link picture rather than the avatar I uploaded. I've been noticing this ever since I was able to upload it the first time. I have to upload it every time I come to GwG. Is this going to be fixed? And can someone please post independent verification?

i think we may have to move avatars to the database since storing it on the webservers wont work as there are 3 webservers, unless we can force avatars to be uploaded to 1 server only

Well, it hasn't dissappeared the last two times I left. Maybe it's loaded on all three webservers now
