Are these players cheating? Is this bad for GW?

As this effects PVE players more than PVP I'm posting here
I often see posts about PVP dieing out and see the following in game.
I’ve actually witnessed this sort of thing happening at Yaks bend; Dervish and Assassin killing off new Tyrian characters in a few seconds.
I personally think its wrong for players to max out things in Elona and then run back to Ascalon and Yaks arenas to kill any new player that tries out PvP. If it was me getting killed, I may think that PvP was a complete waste of time and never get started.
From the wiki: Cheating is defined as an act of lying, deception, fraud, trickery, imposture, or imposition. Cheating characteristically is employed to create an unfair advantage, usually in one's own interest, and often at the expense of others.

It's not breaking the rules, if they can do it.
It is, however, being a 'tard.

Cheating? No, the rules allow it (as encoded in the game logic)
A problem? Well, it's been happening since one week after launch (using droknars forge armour, elite skills etc.) and has still not been deemed a problem important enough to do something about.
Personally, I think some players that might otherwise have been interested in PvP is repelled by this ludicrous charade, and that that is quite a problem. Clearly, ANet makes a different assessment.

Areanet has basically said they couldn't give a a damn about those arenas.
dark_prince2023
it's not cheating thats just like people in PVE jumping to South Shiver peaks without doing most of the missions. Might be the reason why I don't like pvp.

Calling these arenas pvp is kinda...

I know I ran into people like that when I first started playing, it can really put people off playing. Its been suggested before but an effect similar to the ones you get during events and such that sets everyones health and armour to a set level.
Fine people can still go and grab elites but it would deffinately make it less of a problem. It can be the first time some people try out any form of pvp in GW and so it would be nice to have it balanced for that reason.

They made it so you can't use elites in the Ascalon arena, iirc.

The solution to this was posted long long ago and totaly ignored by Anet.
Move that arena to pre-searing.
As for the Faction and Nightfall newb arenas, locking out elite skills and forcing armor caps might work, but in general not much needs to be done there since everyone is on equal footing(ie they can all get a ferry for armor or caping elites).

People have complained about maxed out characters causing grief in Ascalon low level RA for a long time now (and kinda makes sense about about Yak's and expansion characters).
Anet has done nothing afraid to say. The only thing they done was nerf it's faction rewards.
I too was worried about this turning off new players doing pve trying pvp... but have since given up trying to fight for these changes long ago.
At this point, I say remove all < lvl 10 RA's and adjust mapping titles % accordingly.

No, they are not cheating...
They are just stuffing up newer players first experience in PvP-like environment and putting them off ever trying the PvP side of the game forever.
They are just nasty, childish, selfish, vindictive, moronic and spiteful.

back in early days, that is EXACTLY what got me turned off. people using elite skills in arenas meant for people to get the feel for pvp. It left me feeling something: frustration. havent touched it since.

If PvP was the market then most PvPers are scammers.
I heard someone saying this about Halo 3 the other day:
"It's fun now, till people get good at it. Being 'good at it' doesn't mean you have fast reflexes, it means you are the best at bending the rules."
Go join a Counter-Strike:Source server... TIS MADNESS. They aren't even playing counter-strike any more, they're playing with only two weapons and found a way to make them shoot faster and more accurately or something.
PvP comes with a price, get it while its hot. It's at its best when everyone is a newbie.
After that its exploits and unbalanced skills on top until they get fixed... only so PvPers can find the next set of exploits. At this point, pray to God that the devs add bots.
(The Zaishen Arenas are awesome)

This is known as "twinking".
Twink items in WoW used to go for more cash than many epics.
Anyone is given ascended level 20 character. That gets old.
So some players play within reduced bounds. The problem here isn't in them as such - it's in fact that those arenas were somewhat mis-designed from start.
Since leveling is fast, just playing that arena will level you up soon enough to be forced to move on.
The orginal intent of these arenas was to introduce players to pvp - There was no insta-20 character at that time. Once those were added, the PvE <20 arenas lost their purpose.
I'd say that such reduced skill-set arenas are exactly why people play roller-beetle or polymock.
Some do this to grief. But ultimately, they are going to face their equal. There really aren't many "proper" player there, so they simply become twink arenas.
This is the natural evolution of every pvp in item/level-based games. This is the fate and doom of grind-based MMOs. Twinks win.

some of us dont do it for points, rewards, or such.... even if i gained 0 faction / kill or win i would still be in AA on my assasin, or dervish.... we do it for sport....
There are organized guilds that do nothing but AA, or SA....
For me, its sport, its fun, its to break the boring grind of GW.....
They took out the elites when preping for tomes use, that changed things alot, and i personaly like it more now, with no elites....
hahah that pic conversation was one of my guildies, hahaha
and a proph char can get 15 of the extra attributes, we have been doing this since game started almost, before factions, or nightfall..... factions made it 30points lvl 9 in AA.... nightfall just made it faster, easier, and such....
this is nothing new....

to me it seems that a simple answer is just to remove balth faction rewards from these arenas.
these are "test" arenas where you pop in a try out some pvp a couple of times before moving on....they don't need to award balth faction.

I was turned off of PvP because of the supposed low level arena had people that were near invincible with their Drok's Armor and skills that they got there at the Forge. Skills that were not availble to low levels, especially apply poison.

As I started GW 1,5 years ago I also tried the random arena in ascalon. It was very frustrating to face characters on level 4 with max equipment bashing my level 8 mesmer with beginner armor.
As long Anet isn't changing something about this, nothing seems to be wrong in discouraching new players from starting PvP. But seriously, I think it's not good for Guild Wars, because it'll lead new players to wronf conclusions, like getting as soon as possible the best equipment in order to be competetive.
Fortunatly my first character was a mesmer and not a warrior. After thinking about my available skills I found some means to kill at times some of those roxxors. Even the best armor can't protect you from degeneration and empathy. ^^
So this experience forced me early in the game to trust in my skill and skill-bar instead of my equipment, which makes me finally a sly .

Reminds me of a guild in EQ2 that made new characters and ran to a very easy lvl 50+ quest that rewarded gold.
They made a fortune doing that, got punished, and complained they did nothing wrong because the game allowed it. In the end the devs can do whatever they wish. Fix it, leave it, punish those who abuse it or not. They have the final say in the end.

I wish I liked the way it walks;
I wish I liked the way it talks;
And when I’m introduced to one,
I wish I thought "What Jolly Fun!"
