Max AL armor of whatever skin you like the most. For insignias, stick with added energy I suppose.

I use health personally.

i use both health and energy. find a balance of each that suits your build.
the other upgrades are too conditional and therefore unreliable imo.

the other upgrades are too conditional and therefore unreliable imo. Agreed but since mostly in pve I use zelous daggers I don't have a problem with energy. So I use the health boost cause I use a couple of sup runes on my pve sin.

Sup runes on a sassi is that a good idea for a frontline char?
Sir Pandra Pierva
I have beaten 3 of the 4 campaigns with it. Proph, nf and factions I haven't got my sin to GWEN just yet. But it's worked just fine for me in pve. And I usually have only 360 health.

if you stack your defenses, then having the largest HP pool doesn't really matter.

Then I hope your monks have prot spirit to save you, because a hit from a HM boss is usually 300-400 damage

And here comes the 'sins are suiciders' myth.
Saphatorael
I have 575 hp on my sin, chestpiece and leggings are radiant, the rest is survivor. Works well enough for both PvE and PvP.
Bowstring Badass
I use 1 piece of nightstalkers on me feet and the rest energy and I run around with 530 hp w/o a +30 on my daggers.

one superior rune is fine.
Especially since the sin is NOT supposed to be a frontline character. Sins are not warriors. They should only come in after the warrior has aggroed.
However, if you're like me and never use the war henchie or the war henchie won't move despite you targeting and calling the target (my heroes are casters..better healer, nuker, and MM than henchies), and are only hero and henching, then yeah you become frontline but if you pre-prot yourself and make sure your AI are following you and not just standing there dumbfounded then you can still go in with a sup rune.
But i would only suggest one unless you were trying to do something unconventional o_O And of course have a sup vigor.
After that, armor is up to you. I used to use nightstalkers but now i just use radiant. health is usually.. usually...was it 475 or 495..i can't remember...
but it's entirely up to you. like the extra points of damage. and energy. I'm just crazy like that.
and i've done hard mode on all the campaigns (vanquished, mapped, missions). Mostly with heroes and one other person with heroes. Yeah I die, but it was gonna happen anyway since despite the tank being there i'm spiked first. And no, I don't reach 60% first, usually I'm like one of the last ones to reach that :P
o_O it's really the oddest thing... I swear i don't go in until like later. I think i have some sort of giant target on my back..(and note: my heroes have less health cos i'm too lazy and give them superior runes but not a sup vigor rune..just whatever i got >_> but they don't go down easy either cos their skills are uber somehow o_o)

Retribution X
Full survivor set, Minor rune, Sup vigor, and 3 vitae runes works great.

FTL no minor dagger crit or shadow or deadly? I use a superior vigor a minor shadow deadly critical strikes and dagger mastery on all my armors.

The energy applies from any piece of armor but the nightstalker only adds armor to the piece it is on. So, unless you frequently attack in the middle of a lot of traps I might move that nighstalker to the chest piece and move the energy down to the feet.
Yanman.be
Yeah but it gives more energy on the chest piece you know...

I use 2 sups with about 360 health for pve. It works for me always even in DoA and HM. I guess it just depends on the player.

I always pack prot spirit for that reason.

Nightstalkers...
The Versus Slashing / Piercing / Blunt ones are all but worthless unless you're in a VERY exclusive environment or taking on a VERY particular kind of physical-attack foe... And since sins are for taking down squishies with priority, that is generally a no-no.
Radiant (or "Shrouded" to use its old name, which I prefer) is nice if you're casting or using a very energy-intensive build.... but generally if your Critical Strikes are high enough and you're using Zealous daggers then a large energy pool is a waste...
Survivor? Meh. As long as you have enough health to avoid being spiked to death, raising armour seems higher priority. Fine if you're using it to counter the effects of heavy rune usage...
But I swear by Nightstalker.
+15 Armour while attacking... and generally an Assassin is either attacking or not in the combat area at all. It might as well be unconditional for all the difference it makes.
Runes?
I'm a bit of a nutter in that I use two Major runes... one for Dagger Mastery and one for Critical Strikes. It ensures I can maintain both at a reasonably high level (At least 13) while maintaining a few points for Shadow Arts (Way of Perfection).
Superior Vigor is a must, unless you're seriously poor...
At least Minor Shadow Arts is recommended.
The other runes? Vitae or Attunement as you like it.
Appearance?
Whatever skin you like....
.... except Ancient. Nothing justifies Porcupine-Armour.
