keep saving your money, then purchase max armor, runes, and a good axe, sword, and hammer.
if your bank isn't broken at that point, consider yourself lucky, and go buy some ale.

Keep saving your money and try getting collector's armour. To find out where to get collector's armour search it at www.guildwiki.org

u will need aproximatively 7-8k for an armor i ndroknar, 5-6k for a good sword 7-10k for axe, 5-15k for a shield.and 18k for runes/insignias.
so ye...keep ur poor 4k and keep economise.

Water angels is saying the prices for all max stuff. You can get runes for less but 4k is not much. I reccomend you to wait until you can buy an max armor armor (for an warrior 80). And then keep your money for some cheap greens and so on. After a while playing you get more and more money and then you cna buy better stuff.

Absolutely nothing.
At this point in time you don't need it. Don't worry about buying armor until you reach Droknar's Forge. Of course you can still get it from collectors where ever you go.
The same goes for weapons. You don't need the best stuff at this point in time. Use what you get from drops or again, search for collectors. They're a person's best friend.

Don't spend it. Save it for armor, with runes/insignia maybe and signets of capture and other skills you might want to buy. And don't worry about leveling. Just play through the campaign, explore and do quests, etc. Use the best gear you find from looting your victims, upgrading as you kill things and find better stuff.
For the record, you can get max damage, req 9 swords/axes/hammers/bows/foci/wands/staffs/shields from collectors. With all three campaigns out there, you can find them with most any inherent mod from a collector somewhere. With only Prophecies you can't get to all those collectors yourself, but people will sell you collector gear for 1-2k or less (some will just give it away.) Feast your eyes on the GuildWiki Collector List.
Collector gear won't come with prefix and suffix mods, but you can gather functional mods as you kill too. Keep an eye out for mods you like on your drops and use an expert salvage kit to get them off loot if you want to put them on a better weapon.
Max weapons? That kill stuff just as fast as the uber-leet-zomg-100k+500ecto weapons you see in high end? Yep! The catch? - they're blue texted, not gold texted and they don't look the same on the screen.
In GW, elite gear is about rare skins and oddities, but even poor players can have max gear.
You really don't need much gold at all to play this game. Once you've got your character maxed out, been around, have your max armor, etc. you'll start to accumulate gold as/if you keep playing. Worry about buying snazzy-skinned stuff then.
Cheers!

I would buy the best armor available. Starter armor sucks. In Ascalon City, buy the 5 pieces of armor with double the armor rating (500 gold). Put a major weapon rune on a weapon helm, a minor tactics and strength rune on two other armor pieces (~2600 gold). Save the rest for buying 5 insignias (Dreadnought, Knight, Stonefist) and another two runes (minor vigor, any other) . Join a large guild and ask a mate for a loaner or freebie weapon.
I would then upgrade the armor as needed for either looks or higher class armor. It will be much easier to play your warrior wearing higher class armor.

4 plat ain't what it use to be. Save it, spend it only on the essentials, like armor and skills. Avoid things like farming, perfect weapons/mods and expensive greens. And just play and enjoy yourself.
freaky naughty
Just save it, alright? Prophecies has very few ways to make money so that 4k is gonna be worth a lot to you in the next few months. Use collector armor and weapons. If you want a quicker way to make money I suggest buying EotN
Neo Nugget
Yep, i'd save it for max armor in Droknars Forge.

Or give it to the less fortunate (not suggesting me).

Less fortunate? The guy ONLY has 4k and that's from purging his account.
Can't really find too many people more less unfortunate than that. Even if you could, he can't afford it.

Arnt you guys going to fast for the OP?
I would hold on to the 4k and buy the armor(30) at asclon city after pre searing(but dont rush tru pre searing).
Try to buy a bag in presearing, it expensive(1k) but will pay it self back because you can hold more drops to sell to the merchant. Hold on to the collectors items(charr carvings, spiderlegs ect, there stackble and give a better income then 2or3 gil weapons, just take all the blue drops) until you find the collectors, these weapons and armor(in pre) are enough. What i did in presearing was clear all field(next to the quests) until i didnt get xp anymore, this also will give you enough drops. I left pre, level 9 and with 3k+(and a charrbag + black dye
) This is offcourse if your still in pre searing...
After pre dont rush tru the game, you ll learn the value of stuff(and master the skills). Just kill alot of monsters, do the missions/quests. The money will come natural, later in the game you can get the 15k armors and other expensive stuff(you ll need to farm for it though)
You dont need the expensive stuff, its mainly to show off. Ill go for functionality over beauty. For sure in the begining. Try finding a helpful guild or players along the way.
Have fun! mzzls

Stay in presear until level 8 or more. Save valuable dyes! Presear is your opportunity to be a solo farmer! Make the most of it. Leveling up through Prophecies, take all of the quests you can find. Get all the skills quests you can find.
Use collector's weapons, and collector's armor, especially when you get to the desert. Heh. You should wind up rich by the time you hit Draknor's Forge! Playing Prophecies with no short cuts and using its rich collector and quest resources is still the most fun to be had in Guild Wars, IMHO.

You can do quite a bit in pre to save and earn money. If you can make it past level 10 or so, you might want to consider going for the 4 bosses at the altar in the Northlands. Not only does dye drop there, but armour with runes on it, Charr Bags (holds 10 items), Charr Salvage Kits (mini-expert salvage kits), and armour that has runes on it. Acquiring these things for free in pre will help you accumulate quite a bit by the time you cross over.
Steboy93
I would advise you to buy a max damage sword/axe/hammer, a decent shield and the ascalon armour to start with.
Goldleader
It's all about buying items you will keep. Don't waste your money on non-max weapons now, since you know you will just swap them out in another week or two.
Just don't spend your money on runners. Work your way through areas and keep saving your money. As it was stated before 4k isn't much anymore.
Once you get to a place that sells max armor (like Droks), make sure you purchase the chest and the leg pieces first (they take the highest percentage of hits).

again, there's really no need to spend any money in this game. max armor and weapons can be found in the crystal desert being given away by collectors. all of the required items are easy to obtain. in the meantime you can still just continue using collector items.
