Hi guys,

I've just started a mesmer and I'm usin the typical backfire on casters and empathy on warriors etc (pvE) btw. I sometimes find that my spells are wasted tho. There have been times when I think a caster like an ele is casting a spell such as flare or somethin so cast backfire, but nothing happens because he must be usin simple wand attack. How do you know when enemies like this are actually casting spells?

Also, the enchantment removal skills. How do you know if an enemy is enchanted. Or do u just guess? For example if it's a derv the chances are they will be enchanted.

thanks

In pve, enemies will suicide under empathy, but will stop casting under backfire if next spell would kill them. Very often, it is better to let them try to cast and interrupt them with power spike, leak or drain.

One thing that can help your empathy/backfire hexes is by choosing targets carefully. If you're playing with heroes/henchies, cast your first hex and then change targets. When you change targets, call your new target by holding your CTRL key; this will force the team's AI to focus on the new target while the hex on the first target does its job. Or, if you're playing with a team of other people, ask the team leader to call targets so that you can hex targets that the rest of the team isn't attacking.

The most important thing is that as a Mesmer, it is your job to kill the opposing monk first! In some instances, a simple backfire will force the monk to stop casting and wait until your hex wears off before he casts again. Obviously this is a good thing, because it means the monk you targeted will stop healing his party, and that's the whole point of our Mesmer class.

In GW:EN the monks are a bit smarter, and often carry a remove hex spell with them. As it was stated before, you can combat that with interrupt skills...skills that will continue to apply pressure to the monk you're targeting. If a monk removes a hex, throw another one on him. Keep at that monk until he's dead, then worry about the warriors and the other enemies.
