Unlucky... without the title.

Anyone here like me, the person that's ALWAYS the unlucky one? For example, your in UW with a party of 8 and 9 ecto drop total, none for you.

For some reason, Anet wants me to make a mesmer. I have merched so many r11-r13 mesmer "Cane's" in my life, its not funny.

Anyway, back to the drops. When I did Mallyx, the Reaver dropped... the Blade dropped... and I got... the paragon shield. w00t? I sold it for 5k cause at the time i beat NF Paragons were hard to find.

The first (and only, so far time I've won halls... we had 2 members with FoW armor (i own 1 prestige armor set, 15k primeval warrior) and they both had tormented items for everything (one was an ele , one was a monk). And... we open the chest... r10 Crystalline for the monk with fow armor and chaos gloves. r10 Stygian REaver for the Ele with the same setup. And me... a sigil. woo! Am I lucky or what? I just always seem to be the unlucky one... it really sucks. (HoS chest runs, id always get green or diamond. and a ele sword+runic would drop for other members. =/)

Do I care? nah... its a game get over it just make most out of it aslong as you can and hope you have more ''luck'' in GW2

I do notice that everytime I go pugging (once a year) the monks get rare drops... meh might be coincidence but thats what I have been noticing silly dropsystem.

There might be a grain of truth in there, at least when it comes to Anet wanting you to play a mesmer Just this weekend I noticed that every mesmer hero on my 9 PvE characters is pimped to the hilt with greens and perfect rares. I'm using heroes as a storage for decent equipment but no other profession comes anywhere close to how well Norgu and Gwen have it, and I don't even farm any mesmers

Your just having a bad luck streak. I bet tomorrow or the next day you get tones of golds!

There were times while doing SS and LB ranks when I was getting tones of gold drops, and then it just stopped.

If we did a poll, most of the GW population would say they are unluckier than average.

Just because you think the entire forces of the universe are out to get you doesnt class as paranoia.
It is just possible they are out to get you.

We all have strange coincidences in the game ie your characters apparent fetish for mesmer gear.

I became convinced that the game gives different character classes a boost in finding some items.

You find mesmer canes my necro finds bows, on one recent mission 3 chests all had bows the boss dropped his green bow for me and 5 other bows dropped that same mission 1 of them gold.

Lucky yes very but I cannot repeat it for other item types, but then the necro is my main character so I play that one more.

I also have an account wide ability to get gold hammers from the treasure chests in started in nightfall, oh what a surprise its just what I wanted another hammer.

You should be thankful you can even GET to Mallyx or the Hall of Heroes.
If your friends hadn't got better drops than you I doubt you'd be complaining.


Try this for unlucky:

Yesterday... with my Sin.... I did the famed "A Show of Force" Graven Monolith farm in the Sulfurous Wastes in Hard Mode.
I used a solo build to farm the monoliths (i.e. Shadow of Haste rather than Recall)... and cleared out all but one shrine (well over a hundred solo kills in Hard Mode).... and did you know...
I got NO golds at all... and even more amazingly, only ONE purple. Aside from that I had a few blues drop and a load of whites. I opened the Locked Chest at the back to get.... another purple... All useless.
After I'd bought back another lockpick to replace the one I'd lost, I made a net profit of just over a plat for about an hour's work. This was my FIRST time solo farming there... so no anti-farm code.

Earlier that day I had however been Lightbringer Point farming there with a full human team .... and everyone in the team had got several golds from drops, including elite tomes and the like. The only golds I got were from locked chests...two of them... both of them were crappy bows (req 12 with all mods non-max and 19/hex inscriptions)... and all the other chests I unlocked gave me purples (three of those)... two of which were also bows. I'm sure the game thinks I'm a Ranger.... despite evidence to the contrary.


So... you want to complain about bad luck? Go ahead.

A minority of people get obscene luck, most people get crap drops, which clearly means ANet has "marked" accounts as "unlucky"... or so you'd think from reading this forum

If every rare and perfect item dropped for you, there is no way that you would still be here.

Anet has you under there spell. You keep playing. It like gambling... just one more pull/round/bet/etc.

Those streaks last years. To date - Two years.

Why do people shoot down everry thread I make? I'm not "whining" or anything like that. All that I'm stating is how its funny that all drops are supposed to be random, and your the lucky kid that does a 4 hour foundry run and gets a r13

My luck comes and goes, I've had my fair share of nice golds but none of the 100K 100Ecto drops that one of my guild mates has.

Ive had bad luck in other aspects, dying right at the end of a mission and the hench refuse to res me or kill the last boss.

Having the ghost in the Abaddons Mouth bonus get stuck on a peice of wreckage costing us the bonus.

Battling past hordes of monsters to get to the final end of dungeon chest, and a blackout wipes out my power for 2 hours..........

Yes sometimes you're marked as the black sheep, however remember the days you was lucky and others weren't. It's just the way it is sucks but true :@

I've noticed that the same players always seem to get the best drops when I quest with them - it's almost guaranteed. Since I started GW in June 2005 I've played with 6 characters and completed all 4 campaigns and had numerous UW/Fow trips - in all that time I've had 6 black dyes drop in total, zero whites, 22 ecto (with none ever dropping for my ranger), I've yet to see any high-end gold weapons drop, have done over 32 dungeons and seen 1 onyx and no greens from chests and one FoW clearance saw everyone in the party get 3-5 shards each except me who got none. And I'm fed up with getting rubbish mesmer, paragon and monk stuff - all professions I don't play.

I don't think the OP is whining about it, it's just a fact of life.

Alone I don't do too bad, occasional golds, no greens (4-5/yr). But when out with my guildmate, he is guaranteed to get all the available golds and greens. He loves questing with me. I'm a good luck charm for him.

As to type of weapon dropping, I agree, it's usually not anything the character can use. My mesmer gets lots of hammers. Is there even a build for that? Although, it can be fun picturing her using things like a Furious Lesser Jagged Reaver of Fortitude. Is there a build for an axe mesmer?

the chance of you getting 1 ecto is 1/8th right?, so 7/8 chance of not getting it.

(7/8)^9=0.301 = 30% chance of that happening to everybody in the group. 30% is not that low of a number. in fact a group where everybody gets atleast 1 ecto out of 9 is probably even more unlikely, thats just a guess though

unless you are actually incredibly lucky most people just assume they are worse off than everybody else.

No decent discussion will come out of this thread.
