Maybe. But poorly if it does work at all.

Bleh, well, what kind would I need for it to function properly?

Yes, it'll work.. if you don't mind playing at the lowest settings and resolution and still getting framerates below 15-20 FPS whenever you aren't looking straight down. Probably nearly unplayable (and certainly unenjoyable) in large fights and the new GW:EN areas.

I played with an Xpress200 a while ago with 15-20 FPS. It wasn't that bad, but it wasn't that great either.

Nahhh, it would work okay. No extremely high graphics, and likely no DX9 shaders without serious lag, but it would work. But I must ask, why use crappy integrated hardware with the prices what they at newegg.com?

Edit: Nevermind. If you need laptop graphics, just get what you can afford. :/

What price range are you looking at? Are you building a computer or are you buying an aftermarket PC?

that card will work. it's faster than my intel GMA910 on my old computer, and my old computer can play GW well enough if i turn down the graphics.

but yes, that card will just get you by, nothing more.

I'm limited to a laptop.
Name me a video card that is cheap (not like, 38572394562394569$), and that can run guild wars on highest quality without lag.

everything affects gaming speed.

unfortunately, a laptop gfx card that can run GW at highest quality is never cheap. a geforce 8600GT or 7600GT will be able to do it. no idea how much they go for exactly, but you're looking at a $150 upgrade at least.

Well, the minimum price.
Full name is most appreciated

(Here are the parts for the laptop I'm gonna get, recommend any changes possible. If possible.)

it will work better than what you had before. however, it will NOT run GW at maximum settings. i have the same card. if i try to run everything at max, the game goes to 20 fps. if you want to settle for something that's not maximum, then it will work.

Well, tell me what the best one is for GW (and price :x)
Like, the current one I have right now, can it run GW with High Textures without lagging?

Yes. Not as much as a video card, though. The processor is only a bigger factor when you already have a beefy graphics card and your current processor is slow enough to cause a bottleneck.

In most games, the processor functions by doing the heavy mathematical calculations involved in in-game physics (which GW has virtually none of) and by allocating data from hard disks, to RAM, to the video card, etc which are relatively light duties compared to what's going on at your video card.

The 8400M is still pretty light I think, but running high textures isn't a huge deal so long as you have around 128MB of VRAM. A better test of a video card's performance is anti-aliasing (which smooths out pixelization around rendered objects). For most people, the largest performance drop is bumping AA from none to 2x or 4x.

2900 xt xD or 8800 gtx so nice! if not a 8600 gt.. you can pick those up for cheap. But go with ati, better quality. I've had pny 5900fx = broke leadtek 6800 gt = broke, 7900 gs agp = broke. So i went with ati on new rig, 2900xt 1 gb ftw.

If i were you, hold on to your money and wait till mid nov. New cards coming out, so prices will drop. maybe you can pick up a 8800 gts 320 for under 200 bucks.

ahhh forget it.. didnt read you on a lap top. =[

like i said earlier, your best bet is the nvidia geforce 8600M GT 256mb. this card is available as an upgrade for some of the dell laptops. i think the Inspiron 1520 has this option.

just look for a HP laptop with the card i recommended. they should carry one just like it. if not, look for one with ATI Radeon HD2600. it's about the same.

HP carries the 8400M GS, 8600M GS, and HD 2600 XT or whatever that ATi thing is called.

The 8600M GS is only available on a 17" laptop. 8400M GS is on both 15.4" and 14". HD 2600 XT is on the HDX 20" monster and some of their business line laptops.

the 8600M GS is a bit of a disappointment...

you'll have a better bet of going with the dell 1520 or dell 1720 (15.4" and 17", respectively). they both have the option of upgrading to the 8600M GT for $200 CDN. no idea what it is state-side.

the dell vostro line also offers the 8600M GT as an upgrade as well.

So, I'm guessing the 128MB NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS will be even lower standards?
I don't really feel like buying a Dell Laptop, I'm going to stick with HP, but I need some assurance that the nvidia geforce 8600M GT 256mb is either buy-able at stores, or even works with GW at high-graphics? :OO

the nvidia geforce 8600M GT is quite capable of running GW fully maxed out. the 8400M GS can ALMOST do it, but 14-20 fps is not really playable for me.

if you can live with GW almost maxed out, then the 8400M GS is quite acceptable. if you absolutely must run it maxed, them the 8600M GT, or the 7600 GT if you can find it, are your best bets.

When it comes to laptops, your video choices are limited. Most laptops don't have a video "card" as such. What better ones have (usually) is a dedicated graphics "chip" as opposed to having graphics built into the mainboard chipset.

Given the likely screen resolution of the laptop, a GeForce 8400 should be more than enough to run GW at a very good frame rate with reasonable graphics settings. No, you won't be able to run all the graphics goodies at max, but most people can't/don't.

Like, I'm content with JUST High Textures, I guess, because all the other effects (In MY Opinion) are somewhat unnoticable.
So, would that change my options?
(And, when it comes to customizing my laptop on the site, should I still get the 128MB NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS, or use the default one and buy the real one after?)

if all you want is high textures and nothing else, then the 8400M GS can easily do it at around 90 fps. for shits and giggles once, i turned everything down to lowest using my laptop. i think i hit 130 fps. unfortunately it didn't matter, since the game looked like crap.

and no, if you want the upgrade, get it when you buy it. laptop graphic chips are not upgradable, unless the system costs $2300+.

There is really only one way to find out for sure. Either try it yourself, or try to find tech reviews of it somewhere.
