Could someone explain reputation points?

Ok, I'm new enough to Guild Wars and I'm really new to Eye of the North. GuildWiki doesn't have many articles about GWEN yet and, well, the introduction book doesn't give much information either. So, what is up with reputation points? You have to have them to buy armor or weapons, but how many and from whom? So far I have run into Norm reputation points and Dwarf reputation points. Should I be trying to get them from everyone, or just certain races? And how many reputation points do I have to have to be able to get something? Thanks for someone explaining in plain English, free of special GW vocabulary terms that I probably also do not understand. Thanks!!!

First of all, I would recommend getting reputation from every race, because you might want skills from more than one race. You need to have 8,000 reputation points to craft consumables (special 1 use items that provide a bonus while adventuring), 16,000 reputation points to craft weapons, and 26,000 reputation points to buy that race's armor.

There are also special skills available from each race. Instead of using your attributes to determine how strong they are, they use the appropriate reputation as their attribute.

Also, after you get 1,000 reputation points, you can talk to certain NPCs to get a bonus whenever you wear the title (that you get once you hit 1,000). The Norn title grants extra health, the Asura title grants extra energy, the Dwarven title makes you steal health from Destroyers whenever you use a skill on then, and the Ebon Vanguard title gives you armor against Charr, increased adrenaline gain when you hit a Charr, and give you 2 energy whenever a Charr near you dies.

Hope this helps, and enjoy!

http://gw.gamewikis.org/wiki/Main_Page should have all the info you need. were you looking on the official wiki? (hint hint. it sucks. they have almost no knowledgeable contributors)

Hey, thanks RPGmaniac! That actually was helpful! Wow! 26,000 to buy armor...that's going to take some time. I appreciate you spelling this out for me and I look forward to getting some of those title attributes.

Each of the major groups in EN (Dwarves, Vanguard, Norn and Asura) offer reputation points. These reputation points act in exactly the same way as Lightbringer points (and to an extent, Sunspear points) do in Nightfall - as you collect them, you will gain ranks in a title track. Points are earned by slaying monsters while under a bounty (picked up from the NPCs who stand by resurrection shrines) or by completing quests.

Each of these title tracks has a beneficial status effect and a set of skills linked to it, just as the Lightbringer title track had a status effect and a coupla skills that became more powerful as your Lightbringer rank increased.

For example, after you reach rank 1 of the Norn title track (by collecting enough Norn reputation points) you can get the "Heart of the Norn" status effect, which gives you increased health when you display that title. As you collect more Norn reputation points and your Norn title track rank goes higher, the Heart of the Norn effect will give you more and more health. Also, as you complete quests in the Norn areas you can earn new Norn skills to play with; these skills become more powerful as your reputation rank increases. For example, the Norn skill "I am the Strongest!" makes your next few attacks do bonus damage; as you gain more ranks of the Norn title track, this skill will start to do more bonus damage to more attacks.

These title tracks also allow you to access some special NPCs. Once you reach rank 3 of the Norn title track, you can buy some special Norn items that you can use in combat. Once you reach rank 4 of the Norn title track, you can buy Norn weapons. Once you reach rank 5 of the Norn title track, you can buy armor in the Norn style. Each of the groups in EN offers a different selection of consumable items and different styles of weapons and armor. You can check the wiki to see what armor styles are offered by each group, and then you can plan ahead to see which group you want to gather reputation with first.

If you press H in-game to bring up your Hero panel and click the Titles tab, you will be able to see how many reputation points you have earned with each of the major groups, and how many more points you need to gather to reach the next rank of their respective title tracks.
