2 mesmer starters questions!
Timotheus Amadeus
Hey people,
I just started my first mesmer and I have 2 questions.
1. What secondary profession should I pick?
I think necromancer, monk or elementalist are the best options. The first time I started a mesmer I made it elementalist for fast casting nuker options and I like the energy storage. But I deleted my mesmer so, what's the best option for 2nd profession?
2. A good PVE build for a starting mesmer?
I got the ability to get from ascalon to the Arjok Ward in one night. So what's the best PVE build available from Nightfall and Prophecies? I can get the skills from skill trainers and cap them till the arjok ward.
Thanks mates, I also have a Milefaun's Staff ready for him!

1) Depends on what you want to do with ur mesmer, but those three profs are ur best bet. /Monk: Allows for hard reses that such as Resurrection Chant that can be cast much more quickly with higher amounts of Fast Casting.
/Elementalist: Melds perfectly dealing FC nuking damage.
/Necromancer: Perfect for those degen/hexing builds, though more suited for PvP for the most part.
Conclusion: /Mo for pvp, /N for pvp and sometimes pve, and /E for pve/pvp
2) [skill]Energy Surge[/skill][skill]Empathy[/skill][skill]Backfire[/skill][skill]Mistrust[/skill][skill]Energy Burn[/skill][skill]Cry of Pain[/skill][skill]Drain Enchantment[/skill][skill]Resurrection Signet[/skill]
Of course, you need EotN for all of those skills, but if you want, you can trade out CoP for [skill]Power Spike[/skill].

Let me just say...Milefaun's staff is the most ugliest green in the mesmer's greens. I was stuck with it for a long...long time...
I guess backfire and empathy is a must for beginner mesmers, although I like refuse to use those skills for fun :P.
Yes so enchant removal, at least one interupt, empathy-backfire, a res and the rest should be up to you fool around with stuff. domination is good for beginners, illusion is fun and imo is pretty good in pve. And I always have like 8-9 in fast-casting.
Btw I don't remember but does empathy's damage attacks count if there interupted by skills like clumsiness?

no, at least i dont believe so, because the attack never happened, it was interrupted
Pick Me
Necromancer - hexing, condition removal, healing
Monk - healing, condition removal, hard rez
Elementalist - fast nuking, glyphs, wards
Paragon - hard rez, condition removal
I'd go with Necromancers, as they have the best synergy.

I'd say Me/Mo, this way you can carry some self-heals for when your H/h are fooling arround, and hard-res for recovering from party wipes. When you actually can take down a mob without reciving almost any damage, then you can start thinking about /Asa /Ne or /Ele. But anyway most of the Mesmer efficient builds are just Me-only, so you don't really need a secondary class.
Winterclaw
As said you go monk for healing (or smiting in some areas) and I think there are 105 mesmer builds out there. If you want to help with the healing, go cap Light of Dwayna to help with pressure.
Fast Cast els have kind of fallen out of favor I think, so I'd avoid that one unless you have something very specific in mind.
I can't say much about necros.
My final advice is that when in doubt, go /monk because you can always change it later.

Stormlord Alex
When in doubt, I'd say go /Rt or /Mo.
Death Pact signet is sweet, fastcast Res Chant/Flesh of My Flesh is pretty great too.

I should also mention mesmer's have a awsome elite skill which I just love sooo much, Ineptitdue, wow.....
Additionally some really awsome modded and cool skinned mesmer green staffs out there for cheap: Willcrusher, The Trickster, THe Mindclouder, etc.

This always depends on your playing style.
Me/W/R/P = To speak honestly not too good. There isn't much you can do here. Well you could with the right pairing, but most people don't use it because a Warr or Ranger could do a much better job.
Me/Mo = Alot of REALLY fast healing, but you have to have pretty good energy management. Also like pick me said, hard rez. Hard Battle Rezzing Yay!
Me/N = Degen so much that I don't even think you really need that much. It really isn't useful to go full Necro since Necro skills are a variation of our own and vice versa. But it does help with your mass degen. Alot. This was actually my first pairing ever, and it worked well. After a while though it became a bit too energy consuming.
Me/Me = This is perhaps what some mesmers choose (myself at times). This allows you to focus on your trees, you are able to do many things here. This is a great place to start, while using this you might have 1-2 skills from other professions to enhance those. ( I suggest the Kurzick Skill Ether Nightmare + Signet of Illusions for great -8 Area Degen).
Me/E = Fun to play around with, and all around great to do if you wish to deal alot of Damage, you mainly go here for fast, and hard Spike Damage. Or play Machine gunner for fun. :0
Me/A = Not too sure that this is a good way to go, unless you want to run places and so forth. Mesmer sins I'd advise against. But then again someone could disprove me.
Me/RT = Again, kind of like your Me/Mo, healing and so forth, or you can do channeling and spirits. I have yet to see a good spirit build with mesmers. I mean a good spirit build that WORKS properly.
Me/D = Works nice really with some Dervish skills, mostly for your own defense, but nonetheless helpful. I wouldn't make this your first choice though.
Signet of Illusion Mesmer : I thought that this was so great I decided to make it a second profession almost
This allows you to use ANY spell to it's full potential if you have +16 in Illusion, or +15 is fine too. So you really can go Illusion mesmer, yet have skills that are useful such as Vanguard Assassin Support (With SoI it makes them Lvl 20) And also other things like wards and such. Nice skill to play around with.
So what do you get out of this?
1. My opinion. (OPINION)
2. Know that somethings just DON'T work, however you try to mix it up.
3. If you have question you can ask for an elaboration on any of the mixes, and of course myself, or someone else will help you with that.
Hope this helps.

1.Secondary?
Me/Mo for (REZ/FC Smite), Me/E for (FC Nuking or Glyph), Me/N Degen(Illusion+Blood)
2.PvE build?
For a mesmer, different from most of the other professions, you'll have to know what kinds of monsters you're going to fight against before each fight. You'll also need to understand all other skills types before playing mesmer. These are things you have to know:
What is a Chant/Spell/Attack(Elemental, Physical...etc)/Enchantment/Shout/Hex/Signet/Ritual(Natual, Binding)/Echo/Skill/Stance? What mesmer skills to counter them?
