GW2: Heritage from ancestors
ReiNaruto
I was doing a thinking on how GW2 would be, when I come to a weird point.
Our characters in GW2 will be either charrs, asuras, Sylvaris or humans, but they are supposed to be the descendant of our current chars... All humans!
What it is supposed to be? My Charr character in GW2 will be the descendant of a human, I will really be something like a demi-charr :S Or maybe the result of some strange night at the fire of the assault in Ascalon? I can imagine a charr and a woman, we all have seen the children of Orcs, even Ogres and Giants, with humans in fantastic literature. But with a little creepy monster or with a Plant... EEEK!
Or Maybe, it's just that your non-human char will find the HoM of your char. Perhaps, it will be like Bruenor, Catti-brie and Wulfgar in Forgotten Realms. In this case, a human who has adopted a baby charr.
What do you think?

I see it as being more of an inheritor than a descendant. Instead of actually somehow having Norn or Asura blood descendants, it's a case of the character having managed to prove themselves enough to the Norn or Asura to have an apprentice from one of those races, who inherits the stuff. Or one of your descendants acts as a mentor for a Sylvari. A Charr loots your character's corpse after the fall of Ascalon.
Or it could just be a kind of spiritual descendant without any direct blood ties whatsoever - at some point during the game your GW2 character happens to wander into the Eye of the North and suddenly the hall activates and releases the goodies from the monuments - whether because the spirit of your GW1 characters chooses them as their inheritor, or just because the Hall recognises in the new character the same criteria that it chose your GW1 character for in the first place.

Spiritual descendant perhaps. Like kindred spirits? Something like that...

It seems you could at least have blood descendants among the Norn...

I figured if your character in GW2 was a Charr or an Asura it would be cause your grandchild was a friend with a Charr or an Asura and they died so you adopted their children. But then you died with no blood line decedents so your stuff gets passed on to your adopted children.

1 up, that sound very nice, It has a smell to what I said from Forgotten Realms that I do really like.
As pointed before, maybe it just some kind of spiritual connection, our hall seem to "think" that our char in GW2 is close spiritually to our current chars.
There are so many possibilities!

Or if you want to be really silly, reincarnation!
I can see it now... an embittered Charr warrior stumbling into the Hall of Monuments... "What do you mean I'm a reincarnation of a human hero?"
While gnawing on a human femur for added irony points.

"Ok, I'm going to just commit suicide, will be back soon".
Anyway, can you imagine the son of Jora and Koss? Something like a Harlem Globber trotter. :P
Pick Me
If I were to have descendants in GW2, I would say my current characters married other humans and then adopt Char children (from the civil war between Fyre and the Shamans), or adopt other children from other races (as their parents may have been killed or have run away from their birth place - Sylvan).
I don't think they need to be really blood relatives, but legal relatives could be a consideration.
It's like 200 or so years after our characters have done all these great things right? So, it may be possible many generations have passed and the new characters could only be a small % of human (ie: Charr + current character spawns 50% Charr, then 50% Charr + 100% Charr = 75% Charr. Then 75% Charr + 100% Charr = 87% Char, etc.)
I suppose my Warrior could have a sister who married a dwarf and had kids. They may not be my direct descendants, but could still be relatives (there goes my great, great, grand-nephew saving the world - spoken from the mist).

Maybe in the future there's an orphanage in Kryta that was created by our heroes.
Then since the orphans were becoming renowned heroes they inherited our gear to help them fight the baddies better. Sounds plausible, albeit a bit lame.

I prefer thinking that my char will die in the middle of a huge epic battle, in the front line and with a pile of enemies corpses surrounding him.

It can be like Link or something... The hero being reborn everytime some annoying antagonist decides to try conquering the world. That would in a way be spiritual descendance, at least...
At any rate I cannot imagine my characters ever getting any descendants by blood. My Elementalist died a virgin a thousand and ten times already.

Or we could just haunt and possess our future counterparts. Its a lot quicker.

Goodness! This thread is just getting weird!
I'm thinking what happens will be like what several others suggested. Your GW2 character will stumble into the hall of monuments on the first or second primary quest and inherit your GW1's characters stuff.
Leaving you to spend eternity huanting them for pilfering your possessions.
However, there's no reason why my new human characters at least can't be the great, great, great, great, great, great descendents of my current characters. Creepily enough, I have a matching number of men and women characters just for that thought process.

KalleDamos
All i know is that if, like current GW, we get multiple character slots one slot is going to a human necromancer named Kalle Damos. Grenth sends back one of his chosen in a new body, to sow his unholy vengance on the evils that think they are bigger than the god of death! *put evil laugh here*
