To expand on that, "Farming" usually implies you're passively exploiting a game mechanic over and over and over again to get gold. I don't mean to say that farming is necessarily an "exploit" in the rigid, "we-will-ban-you-for-this" sense, but in the sense that you've found a loophole and you're going to jump through it as many times as you can.

Usually when people farm in Guild Wars, they mean solo farming, which means that someone has found a build (or are just using the current popular build that everyone knows about) that is virtually invincible in a very specific area of the game. Inside this area the player can kill and kill and kill and just rack up gold and loot easily and relatively quickly.

Team or group farming exists too, for areas where the loot is--for a variety of reasons--irresistible and solo farming just isn't going to work feasibly. Group farming is less desirable because drops will be randomly assigned to players, whereas you keep anything that hits the ground if you're solo.

Oh. Sorry >.>

The "lingo" used in Guild Wars varies by the player. Aside from the usual internet slang ("lol"), players usually abbreviate names of places and skills to two or three letter initials (DoA = Domain of Anguish), but its all pretty retarded and there's little rhyme or reason to it. For instance, "SS" can refer to about 5 different skills.

A link to our other wiki's glossary http://gw.gamewikis.org/wiki/Category:Glossary

Plus professions, as in mo/me or me/rit:

mo = monk
me = mesmer
ele = elementalist
ne = necromancer
r = ranger
w = warrior
rit = ritualist
sin = assassin
d = dervish
p = paragon

And of course:
wammo which stands for warrior/monk, usually used in a derogatory sense to indicate someone who runs with a self-healing warrior build that seldom works past the tutorial.
noob which originally stood for someone new to the game, but now used by idiots to insult everyone else. Ignore anyone who uses the term.

Welcome to the game and to the guru.

Gank is NOT a GW native word though. And the GW wiki definition is incorrect.

gank

verb

1. to obtain material through force and trickery.
2. to execute or murder, usually with a firearm. Origin: first used in the early 1990's.

I'm going to gank your happy ass.

Submitted by Sandrea Sanders, St. Louis, MO, USA, Oct 12 1996.
3. to steal. Also gank off with.

I ganked a chair from his room.

He ganked off with my bike.

Submitted by Emily Marcroft, UC Berkeley, USA, Feb 20 1998; Andrew Montez, Corpus Christi, TX, Jul 2 1997.

source: http://onlineslangdictionary.com/browse/g

in relation to MMO's :
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ganking

the First time i ever heard that word was in EVE, i suspect its where the misconception of "gang kill" originates from.

edit: 1990's forget EvE....gangsta rap in full effect. gang kill is probably correct.

That would be noob.

It's used for everything, as a general insult, as a ridicule, as a compliment, to describe mesmers, warriors, people with high rank, people with low rank and for just about anything. If you don't know what to say, you just say noob.

Eh, IMHO (here's another, In My Humble Optinion - although you'll also see IMO) it's not retarded. Makes things quicker, yet able to maintain a good English. "Hey, anyone wanna farm DoA tonight?" doesn't sound as bad as "ey, ne1 want 2 farm doa 2nite??"... *shudders* General netspeak/leetspeak makes me go nuts. Even though people use abbreviations a lot doesn't make it retarded.

Oh, and note that these are highly contextual - not gonna run a HEALING BREEZE (HB) monk in The Deep... you'll prefer HEALER'S BOON (HB) x].

Here's some more, because I'm bored and have time to kill x].

MM: Minion master;

SS: Spiteful Spirit, or the build relying on Spiteful Spirit;

Run: Getting someone to basically, run to a town, area, or mission; usually no fighting involved, except when someone "runs" a mission (beats it for you);

Ferry: Getting someone to go through a portal to an area, usually when you can't access it yourself (Consulate Docks for max armor in Nightfall, Urgoz/Deep because you don't own the town/have no scrolls);

Spike: When a bunch of foes attacks a single target, usually using the same attack at at the same time;

55: Monk with 55hp, AKA "invicimonk"
GH: Guild Hall
GC: Guild Chat
AC: Alliance Chat
PM: Private Message, whisper
TS: TeamSpeak (voice chat program)
Vent: Ventrilo (voice chat program)
SF: Sorrow's Furnace (Prophecies farming spot), Searing Flames (elementalist elite skill)
HB: Healing Breeze, Healer's Boon
LA: Lion's Arch
Droks: Droknar's Forge
HzH: House Zu Heltzer
KC: Kaineng Center
Mats: Materials
Req: Requirement (on weapons); shortened more as Q, or R
R<number>: Rank (was used in HA mostly, but now expanding to EotN titles)
EotN: Eye of the North; also known as the following...
GWEN: Guild Wars: Eye of the North
LB: Lightbringer

... Can't think of more right now. But I know there's waaaay more.

How can a monk with 55 HP be invicimonk?????????
Monks have access to a number of skills that reduce the damage that allies (including themselves) take. For example, the spell Protective Spirit prevents you from losing more than 10% of your maximum health when you are attacked.

Now, if a monk had 55 health and used this skill, they would only take 5 damage every time they were attacked. If you're taking that little damage, it's easy to stay alive by using even the weakest of healing skills. This makes the monk almost impossible to kill by monsters that lack enchantment removal skills, hence "invincimonk".
