I am new to playing online games, but do have a couple of questions. Is there anywhere that you can buy more bars or bar spaces for your spells? The one that is on the game does not seem inadequate. When you can change only in the towns that does not necessarily make sence to me. Also, is there a bar for your pet?

Thnk you for any help,
Julie

There is no way to increase the amount of space you have on your bar. I would like maybe 2-4 more spots myself, but it's not happening.

It makes the game more strategic this way. The same reason they max you out at lvl 20.

the whole concept of guild wars is that you can only equip 8 skills at any given time, and thus have to chose wisely before leaving a town and hopping into action.

so no, you cannot buy more skillslots.

"buying more bars" can if you mean buying more skills. Skill trainers offer skills for the price of some gold (ranging from 20ish to 1000 gold, depending on how many skills you've bought already) and a skillpoint. You get skillpoints by getting more XP.

You can only have 8 skills on your skill bar at one time. It seems minimalist and inadequate at first, but it forces you to really pick and choose and weigh one skill vs. another for the worth of your skill slots. For example (since you mentioned pets, I'll assume you're a ranger) you don't need to bring 6 bow attack skills.. there will be a lot of overlap in the utility of them. Bring one or two damage skills, and an interrupt... You also shouldn't waste a slot on more than one preparation; one will cancel the other out.

As for pets, no they do not have a separate skill bar. Once again, this forces you to make sacrifices and choices. Look at it this way... If you could bring 20 skills from 7 different attributes, your attribute points would be spread too thin and you'd have 20 extremely weak skills. Pick and choose what you need and don't try to be everything all at once.

8 skills might not seem like a lot but it's enough to effectively play GW. Personally, i like having to think about which skills i'm gonna bring with me before entering an area. If you're looking for something that doesn't require to think too much about the skills you are gonna bring there are some "cookie cutter" build that work in most situations. Also depending on which campaign you own, prior to level 20, you should try to experiment with the skills you recieved from quests(prophecies), hero skill trainers(nightfall) so it'll give you a basic understanding of what you can do. In factions, there aren't any skills you can acquire by other means than buying them after you've finished tutorial part of the game(that includes the dojo quests) so you migt want to consider buying some skills at a skill trainer. Your pet might not have a skill bar of it's own, but you at least you have a certain control over it.

eight is enough to play the game and of course having more would change pvp probably for the worse.
I seem to remember an explanation that the 8 skills represented 8 rings on your charcters finger.
If thats true can we have toe rings please.

Changing weapons to change damage type and changing armor to affect what runes your carrying or elemental protection makes a few small changes.
