Spontaneous mouse look

I'm running Nightfall on two computers:

Dell desktop running XP Home Basic
Dell notebook running Vista Basic

On both, I use the mouse for steering, rather than the keyboard, and therein lies the problem. On the desktop, no problems. On the notebook, It does major changes in direction (on the order of 90 deg or more), apparently spontaneously if I am making small direction changes. Running straight, with no mouse motion, no problem, but if I change direction slightly, I could flip 180 deg. It isn't consistent, and very unpredictable, but rarely is stable. I've died due to this when trying to thread the needle between large groups and it suddenly changed my direction into a group one way or the other.

I am using a Microsoft 5 button plus wheel wired optical mouse, but there doesn't seem to be any mouse driver on the system - at least I don't see anything when I run the mouse item in the control panel.

Anybody out there seen a similar problem? If so, what's going on and how do I fix it? If not, any suggestions on how to start tracking it down?

I run Coty of Heroes on the same machines, and have never seen this behavior, and also have never seen it with GW on the desktop computer - specific to Vista on the notebook, when running GW.

Thanks for any help!

BFG....Thanks! Took a look and will start through it and try to figure it out. Most of what I read there is not familiar to me, but looks like I need to go into the video card settings and look there.

Thanks again!

Any other suggestions?

Check your mouse settings in your Vista Control Panel.

The settings are mostly for the touch pad. The only "settings" for the mouse are minimal - nothing having to do with acceleration or anything like that. Only double click speed and assigning button actions, and the tabs associated with the driver, which is the latest available.

Also don't find any "look forward" settings for graphics card.

Other suggestions?

Thanks!

Further comment and question...I've tried to watch carefully and it looks like the cursor "jumps" to the center of the display from where ever it is when I click. I recall there being some setting someplace that is for that in Windows, but could be wrong. But, it doesn't do that in any other program that I've noticed. Is there such a thing in Vista, or if anybody here is familiar with Guild Wars, is there such a setting there - I could have missed it?

Thanks!
