Running 2 instances of GW
Soldat
Ok, so I remember there being a thread on this awhile back, and I'm not sure if things have changed. First of all, I've never done this, but I've heard of how people can run 2 instances of Guild Wars on the same computer at the same time. I was wondering if anyone knew whether this was in any way against Anet's policy? Thanks for replies ahead of time...

Having never done this myself, I have heard that it can be done. Usually folks do it to make it easy to transfer things between two accounts on the same machine. With so many of us having 2 accounts from before one could buy extra character slots, I would hope that it is not against the EULA.
I think you can do it by installing two copies of Guild Wars, each to a different location on your hard drive. Perhaps someone else who has done it can provide more details.

I think I still remember "how" to do it; I'm just mostly concerned on whether it's "legal" or not before I go further. That's basically what I had in mind as well, having two accounts and all.

I cannot attest to have seen any official word on the matter, but I have been using a dual-client application for many months without incident.

Can't think of which way it was referring to, but I remember them saying something along the lines of as long as it doesn't try to modify the .exe you're fine, but if you mess anything up then you're SOL.

I dont know if its illigal, i think you should go ask the PlayNC staff?
Maybe they can help you

In the old thread, with 2 different method, it had been discussed that: Anet does not enodrse this type of behaviour, but running 2 instances isn't against the EULA.
Further problems arose when the program that the OG post in the first thread developed was classed as 3rd party, more so when the OG poster released a mouse click bot for drunkard titles.
Thats the reason the thread disappeared.
But its not "illegal" to run two instances

There are different ways to allow multiple instances of GW. One involves hacking the gw.exe. Another one utilizes a 3rd party tool. Whatever method you use, strictly speaking, you will be breaking the EULA. But even though many people imply otherwise, Anet does have common sense and won't sanction you for running multiple instances. However, they will of course not go all out and explicitly allow you to modify the game client (same as with graphics mods). It is tolerated, as long as you don't abuse it in a way that is harmful to the game. Just don't expect PlayNC support to help you with issues with a hacked game client.

Back in the day I used a program called GWx2. It worked wonders, you could even fill in the command line parameters for each .exe too. ie: -password, -email, -perf, etc. As to whether or not it's against the eula, I'm not sure. But from a neutral standpoint ask yourself this, "Why would they care if you're running 2 copies on the same computer? You bought 2 copies, I think that's where their concern ends. Besides, what would be the difference if you were to run it on one computer or 2 computers?"

A bot IS a 3th party program that works in conjunktion with GW - ALL 3th party programs used to gain advantages are against the EULA.
I agree with eightyfour-onesevenfive (84-175) that they only slap you when they perceive it as a "cheat" - and running 2xGW on 1 comp. must be the same as running 1xGW on 2 comps. so I figure it should be ok.
Just one Joe's opinion though!

The point is not that you're running two instances on the same machine. The point is what you have to do to be able to do that. Crossing a street is (mostly) not illegal. But climbing over a fence, in order to be able to cross a street may very well be. Still, no one in their right mind will arrest you for climbing over a fence. Likewise, Anet will not sanction you for running two clients on one computer (if they ever found out).

And the debate was it doesn't influence the game but rather allows you to run two copies of game. Its aquasi-legal argument. And people should refraim from calling it illegal, its a breach of contract not of law.
And my point stand they can't ban you for using a programme, they ban you for the effect it has on the game.

Too early in the morning to find the post, but Gaile has stated the it is not against EULA but that ANET doesn't support it, meaning if you have problems it's on you and they can't/won't help.
I've been using GWx2 for close to two years now with no problem.

Hmm... so you could like dual farm UW or something? :O
And I think you might be able to do it with the 'texmod' or something mod. I'm not sure what it does, I just heard it's for explorer titles

Actually they can ban you for anything they choose to ban you for. I'm sure they have data on just about everyone who's said something bad in the game, or leeching or afking or just about anything that they could ban you for without having to even touch the legality of people useing one computer and multiple accounts. So, don't think you can't get banned for it. If they decide to ban you buddy you're banned. Just ask some of those that got banned for "no reason" these last few months.

Think about it as looking out of a window.
Now put a painting infront of the window, you didn't change the outside world only hide it behind a painting.
Thats Texmod.

On the question of how to run multiple instances (although this isn't actually the topic here), see this thread (Yay for cross-referencing :P ).

There is the original article from Guru. It works. I used to do it a lot back when I was skill capping 6-7 months ago before I quit for while. Most use it for easy item transfers on mule accounts. I used it to help power level some friends, cap elites for their pve's for pvp(back when that mattered) and for transfers on my mule.
GL HF hope it helps
first link attempt didn't work so copy paste the top line and Ill try link again

I'm happy to hear that i have so many GW players using my program ^^ The patch, as stated in the original post in this forum http://www.guildwarsguru.com/content...ars-id1837.php, is allowed but NOT SUPPORTED by Anet, simple as that. I personally havent ever been warned from anet to remove this patch from publicity and i actually never heard of a person being banned for using it..I havent updated the patch or the page itself for over a year and prolly never do so. Keep it up

I know this is an old thread, but would running a virtual machine to run two instances be against the EULA?

There you have it. Any 3rd party software that in any way influences the GW client is forbidden by the EULA.

actually it states only if it requires no human interface for it to be played, i.e. bots and such. multi clients is perfectly legal unless you have a bot or something similar running them.

NCSoft has simply said they won't action user's accounts using those specific tools, but they will also not provide any support if you use them.
Don't use the word "legal" when talking about license agreements, by the way.
