Aussies get high ping

I'm from Australia and on the international servers im getting latency of between 180-500ms, and I'm finding it to be quite an obstacle in competitive pvp. Theres no issue with my internet and i think the sole issue is the location of the international server.

It would be crazy to think that Anet would put a server in Aust (not that it would solve latency issues).

I was just hoping that perhaps the japanese servers would have lower latencies. But I haven't found a way of getting on these servers.

Could any 1 tell me how to get on the jap servers? or is there a better way to reduce ping?

So far......:
Currently there is no way for a player who purchased the Australian version of Guild wars to play on any server other than the American, European and International servers. This is possibly due to differences in Legal environments.

Additional posted info relating to causes of ping issues, and fixing ping:
Your best achievable ping depends on your ISP and geographic location. Speed of Connection will not have a significant impact on latency.

This isn't a question, it is a statement of fact. :P

There are no Japanese servers that I know of, there is a data-centre in Korean though. But Australia's connection to it is probably routed through America. So I don't think there is anything we can do regardless.

What does playing a ranger have to do with anything?

I suppose he's referring to interrupts.

Lag in Australia isn't anything new, unfortunately.

I read somewhere that the high ping issue in Australia was with a data center in South America. Don't quote me on that, but something comes to mind when I read this.

Heck, I play in the US and have a worse ping then you.
Trust me, that isn't too bad.

Well, i'm only getting pings of about 150ms and that doesn't really interfere with my interrupts. I find it quite ok to play with 150 ping.

On my 512/128 connection, I get between 170 and 1,300 ping, generally in the 400-800 range.

This is regardless of European, International or American servers, though International tends to go on the lower end of the 400-800 range.

The fact that I'm wirelessly connecting to my router would add some, though I can't be bothered figuring how much because it doesn't really make a difference.

There are korean, taiwanese, american, european and japanese servers (SuperNova Jpn anyone??)
However there is no way to interact with ppl from Korea, Taiwan, Japan without going via international districts.
I thin the reason we cannot go to their MAIN districts is because of the laws and differecnce in the allowance of them playing (having their accoutns tied to their personal ID numbers etc.)

However I am also from australia and very VERY rarely have a ping over 150, its normally mid 50's.. could be isp.. im with IINet on their adsl2+ plans

This has been brought up before in Technician’s Corner
and I was getting really bad pings a month or so ago
My ISP Exetel put in a new signature and QoS for GW and games
Since then I haven't had much trouble or bad pings in GW playing from Oz.

LOL
Well QoS to simply put it is Quality of Service.
and Signatures is "Game Signatures" some code added by the ISP on there side so things are prioritized for Games Including Guild Wars Wow ect ect
Hope that dumbed it down a bit.

Those aren't physical servers though, those are regions which players can belong to that separate them into different districts. The only physical servers are the data centres on Europe, America and Korea, I believe.

The speed of your internet connection doesn't really have much to do with ping; unless you have other people hogging the connection that is. If so, then disregard this comment. Ping only really measures the time it takes to get a packet of data from you->them->you. Increasing the amount of bandwidth on your line will not impact on the time it takes to get there.

In short, increasing bandwidth will only help to alleviate bandwidth issues within the local network, not the actual link to the servers.

I only have ADSL1 as well ADSL2 isn't available where I live and it makes very little difference in ping if
you have 1 or 2 it is Your ISP and what they prioritize their network for and the route to overseas.
Sure speed helps overall between you and the ISp but they can limit certain things and throttle traffic such as P2P.
Some ISPs give more bandwidth to P2P some to games ect ect ect

My ISP has recently changed there Game signatures as I said when they got a new core device (Net Enforcer ?)
and allowed more bandwidth for Games and cut P2P traffic a bit.
I would suggest ask your ISp what they prioritize and can they look into the problem
If your ISP has a Forum ask there and see if other gamers on that ISP
have simmiler problems.

Hope all this helps.
