Hey,

Some person offered me 10k for a nightfall trial key. Now I just happened to have gotten a little white booklet with 2 trial keys in them, when I bought Nightfall in the shop. One of them is "Guild Wars Epic Trial Key" and the other is "Nightfall Buddy Key" is it allowed to sell these things for in-game money? Because I am 100% sure I will NEVER ever make use of these keys, none of my friends would want it and I myself of course don't need it.

I ended up not selling it to him because he demanded I gave the key first, and he'd pay me after he "checked" it, but that's now how I trade with people I don't know. I wanted to get my money before giving up my key, which he refused, so no deal. But my question is, is it allowed to buy and sell keys like this?

AFAIK it is against the rules to buy/sell/trade the trial keys.

^^ thats for real money... as for ingame currency (which you arent allowed to sell/buy for real money either)... thats another queston. Theoretically it should be possible, because you are trading with ingame money for an ingame product you cant buy from Arenenet (apart from that theres always the possibility that Anet gets a new customer that way).

But Id have been suspicious about that guy aswell... sounded too much like a scam.

If in doubt, don't sell.

There is a sticky thread around here for buddy key requests - you could advertise there that you have some buddy keys that you're not going to use and give them away to someone from there.

Would it be allowed to ask in-game money for them, though??

BTW your name makes me laugh - next to the topic title it said latest post "By Toutatis!" (asterix & obelix reference)

Nope, you can't ask money for it in game. Against the EULA.

As far as I know, in-game money for [any] real-world items is explicitly denied by the EULA. The fact that trial keys are something Anet doesn't attach a monetary value to in the first place makes it doubly against the EULA.. if that were possible.

But if the number of people buying and selling full accounts and ebay characters are any indication, I really doubt that they would do anything about it. Its not like it really interferes with the game.

Hm okay that's quite a pity...

but actually I've seen people selling pets too... all kinds of them... arent those like, "pet activation codes" either? And thus also illegal?

Come on now - would you buy a "key" from someone without knowing if it's actually useful? I would be more suspicious of the guy selling the key than the guy buying it. It's a lose-lose situation anyway.
Scenario 1 - guy buys key, enters key, system responds "that key is in use" or "that is not a valid key" Seller is gone, gold is gone.
Scenario 2 - guy sells key - buyer is gone, key is gone (used).

Ehhh noo, I'm dutch. So I'm a cheapskate. I wanna hear the sound of gold coins running through my fingers, baby!!

[edit] Ooohh I get it... and I suppose that he's to accidentally "drop" a bag of gold for me to "find", eh?

it's also a very common scam.

This is the main reason such trades are frowned upon. But best of all - *you* will be at fault, not the seller, especially not the organized sellers who use trial or stolen accounts to perform such actions.

So if you have 10k to burn, you might as well buy it, just don't complain if it doesn't work.

Most pets you see being sold are obtained when a character has a birthday (turning 1 year old, turning two years old, etc). Those are fine to sell.

Pets that require an activation code (Mini Destroyer for example) are fine to sell as long as you are selling the pet itself. You can't sell the code that unlocks the pet ingame.

Sorry your dutch and therefore a cheapskate doesn't fly. I'm married to a dutchman and he is anything BUT cheap!

Greedy would be a better fitting word to phrase wanting to sell a trial key!
