make characters shout when using shout skills

what's the point in having a shout skill in which your character doesn't even make an audible shout? they just make random noises instead. how hard is it to replace those random noises with a shout that corresponds to the shout skill?

how hard would it be? very hard!
there are tons of different shouts, you can use them on any gender and any character. thats a lot of sound files already.
now on top of that a lot of mobs also use these shouts. and there's custom ones that mobs use, like "kilroy stonekin!"

So really, i don't see the point of doing it. and i personally think it would become very annoying very quickly listening to "WATCH YOURSELF" every 10 seconds.
I'd much rather have it as it is at the moment

Anet doesn't have time to waste on stuff like these, do you realise they have to get the voice actors = more expenses, more time = and thats even more expenses and also there are alot of shouts to work on too much time consuming IMO. What you suggested will never happen. Thread may aswell be closed already as I don't see any point for it to go any further.

Nothing to stop you from using Team Speak to shout your shouts.

I actually think this would be pretty cool, if it was done right. The voice doesn't have to be that loud, perhaps about as audible as weapon sound effects. It also would be a little louder centered around the character using the shout, and less audible the further you get, to not audible at all outside of earshot.

Also, there would only need to be two different sets of shouts recorded - male and female. Cutscenes use only those two, so why would you need any more than that? It wouldn't take much to do it, either - just use the same voices that are used in cutscenes.

The only legitimate complaint I could see against this is possible lag with the addition of these new audio files. But I doubt it would be that severe. There isn't that many shouts (43 total, not including the Ranger pet shouts), and NPC's really wouldn't need this. Is it needed? Nah. Would it be cool? I think so.

Also, for those who find it annoying - add a slider in options to allow people to turn it up, down, or off completely. Everyone's happy.

I want that.

have been thinking about it actually, but not for shout skills, for players, where you can key in your own battle chants/shouts for fun purposes non-other.

so when you are pvp-ing, you can have your team's tag line or chants, i think that would be fun.

off course a lot of players would not like it, but i think it would be fun moderated tag line off course, like the naming system, no offensive wordings

Good idea for GW 2, but I doubt they are going to spend money on studio time to record 94 new voice calls.

Spamming would definatly become an issue, but that could be fixed with a timer. 1 shout every 60 seconds or so.

Yeah. Each gender have a voice in cinematics.
There could be easily one shout for each gender.
No problem about recordings. They could use already recorded voices, just with some reverberation effects.

There proble is heroes... they could either have one voice for each gender, and maybe another for each race.

Heh I was thinking that today.

Here's what I think: Customizable voices for each profession(like hairstyles) and campaign, you choose a voice and there's a voice actor that does each shout in the game for that voice. You can hire a good voice actor for a half hour of time for multiple similar voices and just run through them all...it shouldn't take THAT long.

The coding would take the longest time...and all they have to do is insert the voice track instead of the current sound effect that each shout makes.

Don't activate this for non-human monsters(graspings anyone?). This would add a little more roleplay to this game, IMO.

If I had to deal with 12 year olds spamming Fear me on me with the voice acting, I swear I'm going to go over to their house and punt their kitten across the backyard.

i dont even think there neccesarily has to be audio. i think it would be alright if the characters mouth moved, cus it already says over their head what the shout is. and were used to those "word bubbles" becoming audio in our imaginations anyway.

I can quickly see this becoming a problem with the low adrenaline and energy spam shouts.. I don't really pve but I would certainly get a little irritated when i'm playing gvg/ha/ab and real shout after shout or multiply shouts at the same time..

then limit the amount if times a certain shout is played in a certain time period.

But if a shout refreshes every 4 seconds, you should hear it every 4 seconds. If multiple people on a team are using the same team shout at the same time...that's a suck team.

The only problem with this suggestion is that shouts would overlap or become really repetitive. Not only that, but if ArenaNet implemented this suggestion, there would be calls for making henchmen say what's in their little speech bubbles while you're adventuring.

It was easy scripting a scant few words together for Eye of the North NPCs, but entire phrases for all of the verbal skills out there would be an immense project, and I doubt ArenaNet will take time off from GW2 to implement this.

Oh... there is no problem with that.

Just make them 'random', just like death shouts.
They are not always the same.

So skill shouts won't sound always, just randomly.

Needless to say, only those within earshot would hear the shout.
So a single target shout won't be heard by anyone but the target.

Chants have already sound effects. This would just replace the 'drums' of the shout with real character voices.
