I need some advice on what gaming headset to get. I have heard that the USB headsets will not work well or you can not use all the functions they offer with the new sound cards coming out. This maybe crap but wanted to get peoples thoughts on this. I am willing to spend some cash on a good headset. Thanks for the help.

USB headsets DO NOT use the soundcard, assuming you have one.

For TS use or listening to music ( and both sometimes ) I'm pleased with my USB Plantronics DSP 400. Wasn't too expensive, is comfortable, sounds decent, and people tell me they can hear me fine via TS. It has inline volume and mute controls (useful features in TS or VOIP).

And my system 'senses' when I'm using the USB headset on bootup and switches the output to them. My friend has to switch the plugs between his headset and PC speakers on his sound card. There are switchers out there, but just why?
