No Halloween in Cantha?!

Lion's Arch and Kamadan?!!? What about us Factions-only players?
Unlucky Slayer
There was a big uproar about this last year... Figured this thread would come up again.
Anyway, the Canthan area is based on Asia. They do not have halloween there. That is the biggest reason you'll find that Factions does not have the Halloween setup.

What about Halloween/Christmas/Santa/etc. in Africa? You can say Halloween isn't in Asia, but throughout Asia there are similar celebrations.

There is no Halloween in Chinese tradition, but there is a similar Chinese holiday called Ghost Festival. The Ghost Festival is a traditional Chinese festival and holiday, which is celebrated by Chinese people in many countries. In the Chinese calendar (a lunisolar calendar), the Ghost Festival is on the 14th night of the seventh lunar month, which is called Ghost Day. In Chinese tradition, the ghosts and spirits, including those of the deceased ancestors, come out from the lower world. Hong Kong, a former British colony, does celebrate Halloween every year unlike the Mainland. |

It's Cantha, not Asia. It may be Asian-inspired, but it ain't Asia. That's no excuse. The best reason for it is "Cause Anet says so," and leave it at that.

The fact they didn't extend it to Cantha follows no reasonable excuse than just they want it that way.

it makes sense to me and all the other posters here that say know that Tyria was based on middle age European areas and that Elona has a strong African/Morrocan feel (both of which have halloween due to british colonization/religious ties)

So it makes a heck of a lot more sense to leave it as it is.
IE 2 festivals per game, in fact since Factions had the Tengu festival they are one up on the other games anyway.

they had enough horror with the afflicted around, give them a brake... tjeez

You really do find new things to whine about every day, don't you?
I wouldn't mind even if Halloween only took place in Lion's Arch ON Halloween.
Now we'll have it for nearly a full week in two cities. Be thankful for what you get.

It's in Lion's Arch because that's where it originated and I'm almost certain it came to Kamadan one year later because Nightfall came out very close to Halloween. Maybe Factions didn't get it because it was launch weekend of Nightfall, and they wanted to focus their attention on that. Hell, I don't know. I don't even know if it would look right in that setting...

well i understand why someone would not have it there, however i do think its slightly unfair to a chapter when it mises out on something the others get. However I do believe Canthan only owners do have the luxury of gettign the Dragon festivel where everyone else doesn't so it is somewhat evened out. Poor old elonan's don't get any festivel all their own and neither does prophicies

No Dragon Festival in Kamadan?!!1/1/

because KC has no open spaces and SJM is full of noobs?

Wait, you mean Alliance Battles aren't part of Halloween? Damn, and here I thought the Kurzicks and Luxons were all just Canthans dressed up in funny outfits.

Cantha, Tyria, Elona that does not belong here, that does not belong there.
Its a game they can make it belong to where ever they want.
They just do this just so people with Factions only go out and buy NF or Prophecies.

Same deal as last year, team who worked on gwen is same as that of tyria and nightfall, the cantha team is working on gw2. Only bone given to cantha by that team was canthan new year, which INCLUDED events in Kamadan and LA (frankly is was only added because they were trying to sell to the Chinese market). Dragon festival was reduced from a week long event to a weekend, extended to two weekends only because of extreme lag and complaints.
Factions is literally the red headed step child because it was not the project the current team created. So be prepared that cantha will not get anything else.
I'd hold my breath of another Cantha new year as well, unless anet finds another asian market.
It offical again, A-Net Hates Cantha!

The only things I'm unsure of is that after Utopia was aborted, I remember reading that it was passed to team 1 to be scraped and made into GWEN, and team 2 went straight to GW2 production.
I'm sure now that GW:EN is out, both teams are working on GW2, just team 2 had a head start.

I don't think it's unfair at all. My brother only has factions and he'll be missing the event. BTW if anyone has a trial key for any of the other games, he'll be very thankful for it (PM Me).

Since the 3 continants share the same 5 gods, one would expect the same festivals, but since this is guild wars they dont have to brign in colonisation into things as they make up the world, they could say that the elonians and the tyrians celebrated dwayna more then cantha and so forth, real life things don't really matter here, imo as really its the game designer's call and what ever sells sells.
..realised i wrote about "Wintersday" but you get the point

I dont mind that there is no Halloween in Cantha. They have another event. I would prefer that EotN have something though, since its the most recent release and is where most people are, myself included.
Sniper22
K the reason why they don't have it in Cantha is because that would involve a lot more work for the anet team. It's in Lions Arch because of the first halloween (only campaign out) and then the 2nd one was also hosted in kamadan as a promotion for people to go out and buy the game so they can get the hat and transforming juice crap.
Tachyon
Fair enough, there isn't a Halloween celebration in the Asian themed Continent. Consider yourselves lucky, we have to suffer yet another sickly American idea of what 'Halloween', Samhain to me, means.
reddswitch
They're not giving Canthans a chance to celebrate Halloween! It's implied that not all toons are equal. They (anet/peers) are telling consumers to buy another campaign. If it was fair then any celebration would be campaign-wide like Easter or Saint Patrick's Day, go figure.

lol if u only got factions i feal very very sorry for u

I was pretty disappointed that they did Halloween in Elona. I wanted a different event there, so we had a different event at different times for each campaign.

Factions gets things like Tengu festival, dragon festival so i say they are actually getting +1 event than other campaigns, so stop the complaining.
Dreikki
The GWEN only post was a joke and Day of the tengu isn't annual.

Can't the Cantha people join the Custom Brawl from the Temple?

The bulk of Anet is working on GW2. Not just the Factions team. There would be no way in hell that they could make that deadline if just 1 team was working on it.
