Fading Character/Npc/Item name text.
Water Angel
take off back that *censored* fading thing making name of person/items less visible if more far.
it's serious pain for find a guildie or someoen without add it ina crowded place of pick up a item we forgot behind as its less visible....
worse idea anet had ever...

Calling it their worst idea is an extrordinary stretch to anyone with even a rudimentary knowledge of Guild Wars development history. If you "cant find" a guildie, just type his name into the party bar. In any city where it's crowded enough to the point where finding him is even a slight hardship, just writing his name down was already more practical even before this feature came into being. Unless he's got one of those dumb barcode names
I like it in explorable zones, but not so much in towns and outposts... especially with NPCs that might be on the other side of the outposts.

I think there should be a way to turn it off, it can be pretty irritating.
VitisVinifera
yeah.......it can be misleading too. White items that drop turn gray, and they look like they are reserved for someone else
as far as worst idea anet ever had, I rank this a minor trifle compared to loot scaling, soul reaping nerf, unlimited minions nerf, universal damage reduction on absorp runes nerf, -50 health spirits nerf, and every nerf the poor paragon ever had.......you get the point

It hurts my eyes. After a few minutes of regular play, I start to get an eyestrain headach. If I'm in a town, its worse. I've stopped using the Ctrl and Alt feature.
If I was still PvPing, this would be a serious problem...I wouldn't be able to stand a full GvG with this feature.
/voteforremoval or ability to turn it off. please.
If you want a change, just have near people a dark hue and far people a light hue. The different shades of color never hurt my eyes. This...does.
Is anyone else getting some wicked eyestrain headaches related to this new feature? Or is just me?

the moment i saw this i though "there are so much more important things to be done and they do THAT?!"
it IS hard to see what you were able to see before in the distance...
now i have to torture even more my eyes

Witchblade
not important, but this is the kinda feature that should be in options menu with an on/off toggle
You can't see me
There should be an on/off for this. I find it extremely annoying anywhere I go.

I personally have some pretty serious eye issues, and I must say, this update has deterred me from the game quite a bit.
I still play, but I don't pick up any drops and stick to T-Spacing. :\
Kinda lame that my gaming experience suffers because the developers get a stupid idea and rush it into the game.
VitisVinifera
if this induces eye strain, this really needs to be removed
that's not cool.
that's not cool.

Opacity = bye bye eye sight.

Thats why I wanted to ask. The fadeout just tends to make the (already small) letters blurry to me.
I'm currently running GW in the lowest rezolution for my screen, which makes the letters as big as possible. Its still very hard to read from 3 feet away. i could move closer, but then I'll REALLY get a headache, because i can make out the pixels then and that really starts to suck.

Yeah, this update isn't helpful at all. All it does is hurt people's eyesight, hardly an improvement. I swear, this and autotargetting and other UI updates always seem to be bad ideas by a.net.
Nadia Roark
I agree that there should be an on/off switch for it, but it seems like some people (excepting, of course, those with genuine physical problems) are making a mountain out of the proverbial molehill. All you have to do see something better is move towards it. It's not that hard.
creelie
*cowers* I kinda like it. Now I can tell which foes are in the mob close to me and which are in the mob far away.
bilateralrope
When looking at a mob with another mob behind it, this system does make it easier to tell them apart. So I like it.
However I do see why some people might not like it. So I'll support making optional.

Dean Harper
i like it outside outposts, but inside, it should be regular, and there should be an option for it...
madness2k4
There should be a toggle to turn it on or off. I've some eyes issues and I don't want to strain my eyes trying to figure what's that so and so is in a distance with such an almost close to transparent opacity on my screen.
Legion Magnus
Jumping on the bandwagon - toggle it!
As well, I still dislike the dark blue color used in towns to designate people in a group. Can't see that mod very well either. Gotta be an easier color on the eyes to use. Ergonomic issues ought to be considered by developers when creating products which people use for hours (upon hours) at a time!
And I also agree there are many (many) higher priority things worth working on by ANet instead of opaque objects ...

And no reason why we should have this feature. Useless addition to the GUI. Remove it or add a toggle.
RedNova88
I agree with some of the above posters. I'm sure at least some people like it so don't toss it in the garbage all together. But PLEASE make it optional... It honestly puts stress on my eyes.

if it won't be removed, can we at least have the toggle on/off thing? That way everyone gets what they want.

MoldyRiceFrenzy
its a nice idea, but should be able to toggle on/off... or at least make the fading alittle less or something so i can see...
=HT=Ingram
Yes please make this a Option in graphics. I think it would be OK for some, but for others with weakers eyes like us older folks Its kinda a pian in the butt to not only find someone in a town, but even harder to see things while adventuring and holding Alt and control down...
the lesser
i agree it should have a toggle.
when i first saw it i thought it made sense. i dont know if it makes sense in a town or outpost.
you cannot target an enemy with the map.

Things that are far away are harder to see.
It's completely normal.
But on/off options are never wrong when it comes to UI.

well maybe i exagerated with the worse idea as they had manys lol,but its one of them.
ok it MAy have some use for see which monster closer/more far in bunch but it should definitly be apt to be turned on/off via some panel or else.
my sigh isnt great and that pseudo future make it pain even more....happy to see im not alone lol
pelase anet take that thing off or make it able to to self toggled on/off, everybody dun need it or liek it..

Yeah, I really don't like it... makes navigating around towns and outposts a pain in the butt. >.<
fowlero
not that i don't like some of anet's fun little additions, but what possessed them to add this?? to me, the maps already there to judge distances, this fading doesnt seem to relate to anything other than maybe spirit range. all it does is make things harder..why?
Captain Herbalife
I definately think that this should be toggleable. It is quite annoying.
shmek
Please make it toggle on off!!
Please allow us to toggle off all the clutter "looks cool" graphics on our tool bars and header bars etc. Personally I'm opting for seeing more of the game screen and not all my toolbar graphics (i.e. Big color bar AROUND the target bar in the center? Guess someone thinks that looks good but its a space hog.
Again please make these things talorable to the user end.

I agree. At least make an option so we can see it the normal way. I really dislike the fact that I can't find The Scar Eater so easily when I have to click on him when I'm trying to farm him. I've missclicked and wasted a lot of time because of the new update.
~nymph~
man when i first noticed it i thought my eyes got worse! then i read on wiki about the update... its causing a strain on my eyes as well so i hope this will get removed or be changed to something optional.
kazjun
Please make it a toggle or get rid of it. It's as annoying as the autoattack anet put in. Though at least they put that on a toggle eventually. Wish they'd actually work on stuff that's important rather than crap like this.
Div
Should be an option to turn it off. It's really hard to distinguish between a far away item and something not assigned to me. Creates annoying problems in PvP as well.
spun ducky
I see no reason they couldn't add a cvar for this as it would just be a simple if statement coding wise and adding a small bit to the already setup options menu.
Hyper.nl
I actually like the fading text. It gives a nice addition of what's close and far, especially of things that are not yet visible.
The Little Viking
For some aspects I like the feature. The ditance of an enemy etc... But It has cut my game time down to about 1/10th of what it was a week ago due to the eye strain causing BAD head aches. I know this is the cause due to the fact i get off the game and it all goes away. So yes, please make it a choice. After all, we can invert the mouse, please give us the choice to turn it on or off.
Rinadan Farhunt
Well, most people seem to hate this thing, but some like it so we should really be able to toggle this. Personally, I think its the worst idea since HA became 6v6... But of course, this feature will remain in place and un-toggle-able because thats the way uh-huh-uh-huh anet likes it uh-huh-uh-huh.
Legion Magnus
Still dislike this 'feature' and would like to see it a toggle option. Don't see a way to turn it off ...
