Ok, I just bought Guild Wars: Nightfall and Eye of the North today, when I try to input my auth key for nightfall it says in use, but how could it be in use if I have never used it and it is fresh out of the box? It was fully sealed and everything, had to tear along the lines etc... I sent a support ticket to NC Soft and am waiting to hear back from them.

Anyone else ever have this happen? Ill be sadly disappointed if I spent $90 on a game I cant play

Quite a few people have had it happen. As long as your case is legit, it will definitely be solved.

Ok, that brings a sigh of relief. It is defiantly legit. Thank you.

Oh, one thing they will ask you to do. They'll ask you to mail/fax a copy of your CD key itself. That way it's 100% proof it's in your possession and legit. But yeah, there's been over thousands of people in your situation before. You won't be accused or threatened with bans. They'll want to help you. But it is a pain in the arse to go through the procedures for security reasons. It might take a bit of time, but you will have your game.

One thing they will ask is if your copy of the game is new, or you did you get is second hand / previously owned. If the later, you are up the creek and will have to take it up with the store you purchased it from, ANet does not allow for the transfer of keys between people and keys are single use items.

Thats ok, I did not buy it used or preowned. I bought it from EBGames witch does not sell used or preowned computer games, i don't think any game store does anymore. How do you suggest I prove to them it is infact a new copy of the game? I don't think I have the receipt anymore it may have gotten thrown away along with the bag.

Right... I throw away receipts too, but I think that's also one of the things they ask for. It would have helped you get the game faster, but I can't honestly say they'll outright deny you access as long as you have the key itself.

If the key isn't already active and you can show the key card via fax, I can't see there being a problem.

It sometimes takes a few days to a week with support, however, so don't sit twiddling your thumbs.

I dont know how EB games does it, but some stores can look up recent transactions (last 30 or 14 days) by credit card number, or just by day/product sold.

keygens and such have made this problem much worse than what is should be. seriously, though, i don't understand why someone doesn't just go out and buy the game instead of trying to cheat the system. the games are free online, for crying out loud!

but yeah i had that happen to me with a diablo II key, i couldn't get online at all until blizzard got it worked out.

Yea, seriously. If for some reason this doesn't work out and I am never able to play Guild Wars then I cannot return it, because they don't accept returns, only trade in... and you cannot trade in computer games (because of CD Keys). I'll be out $90. Wish me luck though, lol.

They do in Australia :P
The one I go to has a table of second hand games.

When I needed to verify, I had to email, then fax, then photcopy and mail etc.

It's slow but effective.
