wsm, Hero Skill Trainer is a bit misleading...
Skills you get from him are unlocked for use by heroes, but you will also learn them yourself (I believe you need to be the correct proffession, but...)

Not to mention if you get your sunspear rank maxed you get some pretty good damage out of it as well. 100 holy damage to all nearby foes. Gotta love that against a clustered mob.
