I might add to this:
1. Defrag you hard drive first.
2. Install from CD or download the client from the website (
http://www.guildwars.com/support/downloadclient/).
3. Use the -image switch per Seren!ty's post to download the entire GW.dat file.
4. Defrag the GW.dat file using
contig (or contig plus the
power defragmenter frontend).
By getting GW.dat into one contiguous file on your hard drive, you should increase performance pretty noticeably.
