I Remember When...

- I remember when I downloaded a GW beta back in June 2004 and thought to myself, I will defiantly buy this game.
- I remember when Rotscale also showed up in the Sanctum Cay mission.
- I remember when there was use to the ancient weapon in the Crystal Desert.
- I remember me getting a run to Droks for my Warrior and then logging off when getting there, only to read the next day that ectos were like 200 gold each and people cleaned up on them.
- I remember the next time ectos were cheap and Anet bringing down the servers to restore from a previous point.

I remember when we had that bug where mobs that fight each other dropped stuff for your party. Iron mines AFK farming ftw (slowest farming ever )

I remember partying in Ascalon...then out of no where...a scream...and an ebil laugh, like a hound from hell...the little thing appeared...burned us allllllllllllll!!!
And now everyone just loves her...the mesmer <insert female canine descriptive here.>GWEN!

I remember when..
..I saw someone level to lv20 in pre-searing, in august 2005. It was actually the day I started playing. I was thinking that wasn't such a big deal and I'd easily get to a way higher level in no time.
..didn't know level 20 was the max back then. never looked at the game box or guide, just started playing along with a friend.
-
I also remember thinking I was extremely original playing a paladin with mending and shield of regeneration + balthazar's spirit. Infact, I actually got complimented about this when I solo'ed 3 people in random arena, after my team had died. I was stupid enough not to take rez.
I remember capping my first elite skill, thought they were actually only for the 'elite' players out there!
I remember finding out what soul reaping did, at the maguuma jungle, after people asked my why I didn't have any points in soul reaping... I played a N/E back then, I liked elementalists but I started playing with a friend and didn't want to copy him, it was actually my first character.
I remember taking a lot of trouble to buy meteor shower on that same necro! I was so happy with it... Bought it at the ascalonian colony in kryta.
I remember thinking guildwars sucked because presearing looked so much better then post-searing ascalon.
and I remember much more, ofcourse, but most has been stated

I remember doing every single quest in factions, i didn't know that it wasnt necessary to go further on the storyline.
Sister Rosette
I remember going through Tyria for the first time, and being wide-eyed and in awe of the constantly changing foes and environs around me.
I remember UW without Dying Nightmares.
I remember when I could sell 10 Ecto for 100k.
I remember how people used to appreciate Monks, because they weren't as common.
I remember kicking myself for deleting my Monk and all my good characters, and giving away all my money and items when I 'quit' the first time.

I remember when people complained about the AoE update, and I just laughed.
I remember the first IWAY...
I remember when conditions actually had a chance to last their full duration.
I remember when you actually had to think to kill a monk, rather then just overload him with win-button nightfall skills.
I remember when Positioning was the most important aspect of the game.

When I used a whole a bunch of ele skills on a warrior.. I thought a war/ele would be awesome but I was wrong... When I got my first black dye after doing captured son quest with my ele... Damn that quest is hard...I remember when I first started abing... I had a crappy ele bar lol, double dragon ftw...when I got 60% canthan explorer I was happy^^... when I got prop and got meteor shower damn that was awesome... Going to Ascalon with henchies... that sucked. Making derv and going omg when a guildie showed me the deathbringer... 9-41 wtf?! overpowered much? When I capped searing flames that was awesome... Being stuck on each of the vortex missions for a month...Finding out about eoe bug farming...First 15k armor... Finding second black dye in the nightfallen gardens... then getting about 5 more through bug farming... started exploring other classes... HM and then it went downhill from there

I don't remember any of the stuff you people are talking about, because I started playing later then most of people here, and I'm kinda thankfull for that because I don't have any reason to come and moan about how glorious were the past days.

Just play the damn game, or move on. Less QQ more pew pew. Kktnxbai.

I remember opening GW in 2005 December, because I thought it looked so cool and had to get it. I remember getting bored with my level 8 ele at Frontier Gate, and my lvl 11 Ranger at shiver peaks, and developing my Warrior hate because they felt so slow.
I remember quitting from boredom that same month, I remember Factions coming out and I was like "WTF ASSASSIN, SWEET"
I don't remember nerfs >.> the overload exploded my memory.
I remember my ranger being R/N and was a "hybrid" using Range and Minions.....then I realized It sucked ass and tried furiously to get skills to fix it.
I remember, when all you would hear is 55. Now theres A/E E/A .....55

I remember buying Guild Wars because the girl I like played it too.
I remember my first dye drop in pre and she telling me not to sell it because there were traders after who would buy it for lots of money.
I remember we started dating.
I remember we doing all the quests together and all the missions.
I remember getting to lvl 20 and it was so great!
I remember we finishing the game and not knowing what to do (lol).
I remember we braking up.
I remember she started dating with another GW player.

I remember being terrified of the mursaat as I ran myself to the grotto from ice caves (going the long way, as I'd never beaten the mission yet) and only just barely making it by the skin of my teeth to buy my first ever piece of 15k armor (the top was all I could afford.)
Good times.
Good times.

I remember being kicked from parties as an MM because I hadn't capped Flesh Golem yet.
I remember when no one would reveal the locations of Dervish Elites.
I remember reaching level 20 in the Crystal Desert AND ascending and feeling like I had really become a new person.
I remember mapping everything from Old Ascalon to the Frost Gate because I couldn't find the primary quest to take me from Northern Wall to Fort Ranik, not realizing that I had been IN Fort Ranik upon completing Northern Wall.
I remember before I knew about wikis and the whole game was one amazing discovery after another.

I remember GW being hard, a long time ago. I remember getting stuck at Raisu Palace because PUG after PUG failed horribly. Being good at the game is boring lol.
Legendary Shiz
I remember Boon Prots being the shit.
I remember when THK was the bane of my existence (thanks wiki!)
I remember greens being new, and the Tombs being the only place to farm them (WTS Victos Bulwark 100k! Oh man I miss those beasts)
I remember Zealots Fire being the shit on my 55

I remember when this game wasn't nearly as good as it is now. I remember not having heroes and being forced to either manhandle the (even worse back then) henchmen AI or have to PUG (which was every bit as unpleasant in 2005 as it is now, people's nostalgia aside) if one only had a small group of in game friends. I remember playing the quests outside Yaks over and over and over again because the henchmen were so cripplingly stupid and there was no one that wanted to do them when I was around. I remember when there were no holiday announcements and hat give aways would go on while I was playing with me none the wiser (Wintersday '05, for example). And I remember getting so tired of fighting a game that wouldn't let me play with my friends (and no one else) that I stopped bothering with it 3 months after I bought it and paid it no mind until I read about heroes in Nightfall.
That's what I remember.
That's what I remember.

I remember seeing the white mantle and wanting to get their armor.
I remember customizing my first gold weapon thinking you could just un-customize it and sell it.

Well it was around the time of prophecies only. Monks were complaining that they weren't getting the respect for the amazing job they were doing: healing and protecting other players. So Large numbers of Monks appeared in Thunderhead Keep (one of the hardest/most annoying missions). And did not accept any invites. "No Deal No Heal" was commonly said by every monk. After a day or two, things started to get back in order with monks and other players. |
I remember posting on the boards saying, "Forget them just take Henchmen." as at the time I had pretty much done evrey mission with just henchmen.

I remember when PvE used to be hard.
I remember when ranger bows did a crapload more damage.
I remember when spirits couldn't be killed.
I remember when everyone was friendly, and making a new friend every PUG wasn't a weird thing.
I remember when lvl 20 armor was at ventaris refuge.
EDIT:
I remember seeing "Pro Runner - Going to XYZ - 5k" everywhere you went.
I remember the game used to be a lot funner...
This thread makes me depressed.

I remember reaching post searing and being worried about having enough Skill points to buy all the skills I wanted.
I remember messing up a build and having to farm mobs for very little EXP to fix my build.
I remember being level 15 and spending a week killing mobs with just me and the monk henchmen in the jungle because I thought being level 20 would make me powerful and didn't want to wait.
I remember when PVP Arena's were off the map of most majour outposts. *I think you can still see the portals for them*
I remember playing the Beta weekend and while I knew about the instances I was thinking the game was more like D2, and where you just moved forward for the most part.
*off topic* but what was the cooperative mission in the Beta? Is that a actual area in the game? I just remember it being some desert and you couldn't take henchmen into it, you had to go with other players.

I remeber when you didn't require ascention or lvl 20 to enter FoW or UW.
Took my war/monk into FoW with a guild member and a PUG at lvl 17, got a few OMG after we entered and was the last man standing after completing the first quest and moving on to the undead farther in.
I remeber when nobody knew what city came next and exploring was permitted with out any locked doors. Trying to go from Piken Square to Yak's Bed for the very first time and got a little lost, ented Dragons Gullet and was almost instatly pary wiped by the Hydras.
