I started a necro simply for the purpose of being my merchant toon. After playing a little with him, I decided to just go ahead and level him up and take him from Nightfall to the other chapters so he could reach more people with my collection. He's lvl 4, no secondary yet, but as I was standing in LA, I had a thought. The stuff outside LA isn't so hard that he couldn't go out and gain some levels...and for that matter, the stuff outside Kaineng or back in Haiju Lagoon wouldn't be that difficult either.
I could reach 20 without a secondary. The only problem with it would be finishing the Nightfall chapter, but I've done that with so many other toons that it's not that important.
I just want to get some thoughts on this. I've looked up necro builds that don't rely on a secondary and I have the skills unlocked. I'm not going for survivor on this one, so it doesn't matter how many times I die, I just want to see if it's possible.
No secondary

Yeah it probably would be possible to do this, a while ago a saw a lvl20 legendary survivor paragon with no secondary.

If I had thought to do so, I would have done it with my dervish. I made a second dervish with my normal build (all primary skills) so that I could try for survivor. She's already got the first rank but I did pretty much the same thing. I took her from Nightfall to Factions to level faster on the 3k xp quests.
They should make some kind of title for that. Like "Specialist" and "Legendary Specialist" Would be cool.

Well, I did this with one of my Rangers and he's lvl20 now and completed EOTN (definately worthwhile for Heroes and such). Almost done Factions too, but can't seem to get across to Prophecies as the gates in the area you transport to from Consulate Docks don't open for me. Wonder if you could let me know how you did this, probably something obvious either me or my ferry isn't doing. Thank you and good luck.

I think you cannot enter the first mission in Nightfall unless you complete the secondary profession quest.
Am I wrong in that?
Am I wrong in that?
Kale Ironfist
Yes, because the first mission is Chahbek Village, and you're expected to complete it before you reach level 5, the requirement for the quest to ask you to choose a secondary profession.

@ apehawk - have your ferry abandon the quest and retake it. I had a ferry to LA have the same problem. He got to the guard that is supposed to open the gate and it did nothing. He just went back and took the quest again. Should work that way.
@ arcady - I knew that I could not progress the nightfall story until choosing a secondary, but as I can still reach nightfall skill trainers I will still have access to whatever skills I've unlocked (or will unlock with other toons). It wasn't as important to beat Nightfall with this one. But I would still have 3 other games/expansions to play through and beat this way if I never went back to Elona.
The only downside I see is having to wait until lvl 20 to get the EotN heroes instead of the ones that are available early in NF.

You can do any class without a secondary. All of my characters have started out with monk as a secondary, but that's just for the hard rez and some self heal. But, you can always just use a rez signet and whatever self heals are in the class's skill line - or just rely on a monk.
There is always enough skills within a class to make an effective build for most of the game (NM), without using a secondary. Even HM depends upon the make-up of the group your with.
Of course, certain builds, require that you use a secondary.
