Your characters...

So, here is a rather fun question I thought I would ask of the Guru Community at whole. Rather then getting into a strong debate as I often might with persons in this forum, or attend to a silly topic, I have decided to start this topic. It is placed within this forum due to it not exactly being a story, but rather a question about your characters!
How many of you really have a story to tell about your characters?
It's something I personally do have with all my characters, even the ones I've created just to take up that empty slot. I'm wanting to know if you, as a fellow player, have the same for your character as well?

I always keep track on things I get on my Main Character for the first time.
First Charr Bag.
First Charr Salvage kit.
First minipet.
First green.
I even kept my first Ecto in storage and still have it.

Well do you mean like fictional stories, or each character having their own goals or whatever? Each character I make, I have a little side story that I can see happening with them. Makes me get into them even more.
For instance, I'm currently working on a Legendary Defender of Ascalon mesmer. I can picture that happening, and for some reason I can vision her being friends with Anton and they grow up together. Then they get separated during the Searing and as time passes, they don't know what became of the other. Both are presumed dead. My character would go on and save Tyria, Cantha, and Elona, then meet up with Anton again in GWEN time. And she'd remember Gwen as well. I envision my character as being about...maybe 16 during pre-Searing, and in her 20's or so during GWEN time. After all these years, she and Anton get married.
I also have a ranger (well two actually) with jewels in her hair. To me, that spells princess. And of course all my characters pretty much look the same (tried to make them all look as much like me as possible lol), so I envision her as being a reincarnation of my main character in a princess's body. As such, she wants to fight but can't because her father fears for her safety. I see her as being a princess of Vabbi, and she and two other princesses (an elementalist and ritualist, each with the jewels in their hair-those hairstyles that is) like the princes in the Nightfall storyline. Of course, this is many years later. And then Vabbi gets attacked so the princess goes off on her own, falls in love, and then comes back with her husband, who becomes prince.
And I saw my main (back when she was Kurzick) being best friends with Danika up until her death and falling in love with a Luxon, until they both left their factions to join the Sunspears. lol
Yeah, those are my stories. It's safe to say I'm a sucker for love stories. lol I'm not sure if this is what you wanted but I figured I'd share them. I like to write short stories for a hobby so I might even write one based on these.

i have a few small stories but it mainly involves my monk being a kick ass.
My monks the oldest of my strange family btw, funny how neither of them really look alike and they have different surnames but they still look up to him.
Magixo defeated the undead lich but then again so did all my other characters? major paradox problems

If you're asking whether I role play with the character, the answer is no. If you want to know whether I can recall events that have happened while playing a charcter, that would be a yes.

My main char actually has a very very long history...that ends when he was created in GW! I've created in GW at Semi-Elf Water Mage that I played during countless hours with friends in a very long Lord of The Rings role-playing campaign years ago (we fought the Nazguls and a Balrog! he could unravel very powerful natural powers). I logically created an E/R, specialised in Water and with a nice Bow (but I'm using my staff more). My game master (oldest friend irl) even draw a nice pretty picture of what he looked like, and I imagine that now Fril grew up and left Middle Earth to travel to Tyria-Elona-Cantha . I look forward to creating his grand-sons in GW2 .

it's fun isn't it
I could always say different time dimensions etc
I would have to say theres some mains for different continents.
my monk from prophecies, ritualist from factiosn and paragon from nightfall.
My monk defeated the lich and then met up with my ritualist in factions to defeat shiro. Then these two met up with my paragon in nightfall to defeat abaddon. I also count all my heroes such as koss on each character as the same person. Koss met both of my characters at the same time. My heroes are mainly friends of my monk magixo and they help out my family when needed.
My other characters may have helped out along the way but some may not of ever done the missions. My necromancer is on his own quest to just explore the continents.
One of my youngest characters is my warrior in pre searing. Pre-Searing is suppose to be 2 years before Post searing. I am yet to come up with a reason to explain this. Even though he's the youngest, it could be seen as him being the eldest.
sorry about the terrible grammer and spelling.

Age
I have made up some lore for my main chars that I have posted on anther board but here is a an eg.My Monk was born in Rin and has 3 sisters and 2 brothers her Father was a Warrior and her Mother a Monk hence why she became a Mo/W.She had a 5th great uncle ((Guild Founder now officer not active)) that was a Ranger and that is the reason of the Guilds name being what it is.She has a few cousins as well((second account))that share the same name. That is it in a nut shell.
This why I would like to see Rin restored and get access to it.
She is the second oldest her brother being older than her.

You can't play an MMORPG properly without roleplaying your favorite character at least a little, in my opinion. My roleplay also involves my playing buddies characters (not to his knowledge, though).
My favorite character is a Tyrian Ranger which I've been playing for 27 months, my entire GW span. Pre-searing, he was a librarian in the employ of the Great Archives of Rin (yeah, I made that place up), with a penchant for archery.
However, after the searing, he had to learn to use his archery to protect himself. During a fight with Charr which he was losing, he suddenly felt a surge of energy. All his arrows burst into flame and set the Charr's fur on fire. Thus, he found out about his secondary profession (I rarely play R/E, but I use it to explain how I use burning arrows, explosive arrows, etc.).
During the first mission in Tyria, he met a mesmer (my friends character). They fought their way through the Tyrian campaign together, my character drawing maps as he went along (cartographer), as his love for knowledge was still there, even with his current "job" as a hero.
However, in the final mission of Tyria, his friend was killed by the lich, sacrificing himself to throw the final blow. (my friend switched to an assassin in Factions)
He fought through the rest of the campaigns with this assassin. However, after defeating the great destroyer, though there were no other great threats, he could never settle down again. This lead to his demise, as, on the first mission to explore Orr since its destruction, all contact was lost with him and the rest of the team, and they were never seen again.
However, in GW, one mission (should) be to fight this group of dead adventurers, now the unwilling servants of our next great threat. In dying, he will be freed of his chains, and will pass on knowledge to my next character (who will definitely be a ranger or similar) before passing into the Mists, and give him the key to the Hall of Monuments, so he may take what lies within.
While I could tell you about a lot of his exploits, I shall tell you only one. During the first "mission" in GW:EN, all of the party was being chased by the destroyers (as in the mission). However, they were stopped when my character pulled out 6 highly explosive arrows (an invention of my own), lit all the fuses with a sweep of his hand, and (barrage) fired them into the ceiling. The first destroyers were crushed under the rock, the rest found their passage blocked, and the Dwarves, Asura and Heroes were able to make their escape through the asura gate.

I love writing. A LOT. So i decided a while ago to write character stories for each of my characters on the side. Of course i can't start that until i finish my main writing or run out of ideas/willpower for it.
Rexion
My main character's name is Heal N Fifty Fiver...
past 3 days, I've been trying to get into UW or FoW group, people turn me down cause they think i'm gonna 55 it.
I quit 55'in after the loot nerf... i want a name change!!

Aera Lure
I do. Most of my names come from a science fiction RPG campaign I was running for a long time. Its still ongoing, and I revisit it from time to time. I dont role play in GW though.
Zahr Dalsk
I don't RP in Guild Wars. Guild Wars is not really an RPG (yes, yes, an MMO, but is there the level of choice and detail in it that you'd see in, say, Baldur's Gate? No? Didn't think so.), and I don't treat it as such.
I roleplay in Mask of the Betrayer (spiritual successor to Planescape:Torment in all respects). I roleplay in KotOR/KotOR2. I roleplay in stories I write. Not in GW.

Lord Sojar
I don't really role play much in GWs. But my monk Lord Sojar and my dervish Deux Du Machina have some lore I created with the Ball and Oktoberfest.
william1975
no stories whatsoever, im not a writer, and even if i wished to be, i would udoubtedly suck so badly i'd fall into an eternal pit of despair never to recover from the damage done to my own fragile ego.

. Nice posts. And yes, I have a story behind my characters as well.
Kamara
I don't roleplay, but all my girls have a story and background and ongoing adventures wrapped around existing Lore. ^_^

I roleplay a bit with my characters. I find that it's more fun to add some backstory and character traits to each character that I create - even more of a reason to keep playing them
My main character (my mesmer) started off as a Dungeon Siege 2 character (a combat mage) who moved from Aranna to Tyria. I play him as a gentleman, but a gentleman with a lot of emotional baggage and a lot of unresolved rage issues (the result of seeing two homes destroyed). In combat, he takes enemies apart slowly, methodically and sadistically, invading their headspace and warping their perceptions, prolonging the enemy's pain for as long as possible, hoping that they might begin to understand the pain he feels himself. And, with an elementalist secondary, he hasn't forgotten everything that he learned while he was a combat mage earlier in life
My assassin is a bit of an enigma. It's not that he doesn't have a past; it's just that he doesn't remember it. The earliest thing he remembers is washing ashore on Shing Jea Island with a gaping slash wound down one side of his face, clinging to a piece of driftwood. Everything before that time is a total blank. His racial heritage appeared to be Canthan, and after being nursed back to health by the monks of Zen Daijun (although nothing could be done to save the sight in his left eye) he was admitted to Shing Jea Monastery. He's finding his own way in a brave new world, and perhaps he'll find some clues as to who he is along the way.
Those two are perhaps my more interesting character backstories

My mesmer started off as a rp character only to be re-created in the gw universe. No, I don't role play him in game, it would most likely get me banned if I did, he had a bad personality before gw and the mesmer profession, whilst it does suit him, brings about a lot of rejection into groups.. which doesn't help the personality one bit.
I do remember henching a lot and finding that Orion cast firestorm on time (not after) a lot with him.. made me wonder if there was something going on between the two.
Also to the question if we could get survivor characters on those characters who died before the title existed. No, I'd not want him to have that title. It wouldn't suit his attitude towards being dead. (instead, I let him die often whilst experimenting with a new farming build)
I've got another few characters who have a bit of a history behind them. I guess a history behind the character makes playing the character more enjoyable..

Mork from Ork
At one time I had a story for every single one of my characters as well as the founding of my guild - only have one of the originals left though and you would have to know the Tex Murphy series of computer games to understand the story.
Fitz Rinley
All of my characters are related in some way.
My primary, Fitz Rinley is the illegitimate son of a local baron. He grew up in a now destroyed local abbey in Rin Valley and studied to become a warrior/monk in dedication to Balthazar. Upon graduation, when his father presided over the swearing in ceremony he hoped for some kind of recognition, and was crushed. That night in a drunken rage he screamed curses for all of Rin to burn. Memories of the Searing and that night haunt him constantly, and push him to play the hero he is certain he does not deserve to be.
Mrs. Rinley, is a Me/N. She left Rin at the start of the invasion and her husband's insistance. Then she raised their three children in Chahbek Village during the war. The children each went on to adventurous lives, fed in part by the heroic ideal they all have of their father. The oldest, Ash, is a Ranger. The middle child, Ravenia, is a Necromancer. The youngest, Fitz Jr, has trained as a Paragon in service with the Sunspears.
Ash while traveling in Cantha hooked up with an Assassin, Xiwu, recently graduated from Shing Jea, and while the war against Shiro has been keeping them too busy to see each other often, they correspond as much as the Xunlai storage allows - leaving presents for one another as well as messages. Ravenia enjoys the company of a local Sunspear Officer she grew up with, named Kavan. He is a Dervish. Junior met a tourist from Cantha, Yu Geshou, whose spiritual light and beauty captivated him utterly.
Fitz has a headstrong cousin, Dame, who is an Ele and proud of her noble heritage. She came from a small land holding not quite in anyone's kingdom, and with cultural values not dissimilar to the Norn. During the flight from the Charr, she met another refugee named Pappi, and the two get along quite well.
I have not penned much, and lost some of what I penned in a computer crash a long long time ago. But They all have stories of their own and move according to their own nature (as any character will inspite of the author's best intentions).

Many decades have passed since that day, Tyria still lay in conflict. Though, rumors have spread like wildfire that the missing hero of Tyria has been seen. But, this figure moves with unnaturally agility and dexterity has left deep gorges in the land with pools of blood and mutilated corpses in her wake. Many have tried to halt her massarce, but all have fallen to her flashing blades. It is said that anyone that lays eyes on her die in a matter of seconds, sliced to ribbons. Although, one person survived. A little girl, only nine years old who had been kidnapped by a band of slavetraders. The girl and her captors had made camp near a shimmering lake in the Maguuma Jungle. The Moon hung in the clear night canopy, naked. A fire was made, the smoke touching the heavens. Birds and other animals could be heard from the dense forest behind them. The little girl had been tied to an ancient tree whose trunk was a wide as two Aatxes adjacent to one another. Only the girl noticed the moon flashed crimson for a split second. A spine-chilling breeze passed through the small camp, snuffing the fire. The camp was doused with darkness. The few slavetraders who were awake bolted up and awaken their slumbering friends. All noise vanished, save for the hurried breaths of the captors and the crunch of the grass of someone coming. The girl struggled against her bindings, but they were too tight, too strong. The nearest captor slapped her and whispered for her to shut it. Whispers among the slavetraders were rapidly being exchanged as the crunch of the grass came closer. A rasped breathe was heard behind their camp towards the forest and they all froze. Blood drained from their faces as a female figure with dulled gold Gladiator armor approached. The figure's face was hidden by the shadow of the jungle, her right arm slack but her right hand clutched tightly to a wingblade which was plastered with congealed blood. Gold. Her golden hair floated through the air as if a gentle breeze passed her only. Pale was skin, but not quite like the moon. Splatter of clotted blood decorated her midsection and thighs, her entire left arm was caked in the crimson substance. As the figure approached within two meters of the nearest stunned captor, the moonlight chased away the shadows concealing the figure's face, revealing another splatter of dry blood across her lips to her left cheek. All eyes drifted to her eyes and shivers ran down their spines, some even soiled themselves. Piercing silvery-blue eyes stared at them, these ethereal eyes surveyed the camp, from the bound little girl at the tree to the number of captors then to the moon. She smiled, the corners of her crimson lips pulled upward. One brave soul among them broke the silence, "...w-wh-who are y-you...?". She parted her lips minutely, "the hero....", still maintaining that smile. His face contorted into surprise as them all. Some exchanged whispers, others turned even paler. Another spoke, "b-b-but t-that's im-impossible! Y-you've been g-gone for 80 years!". The corners of lips rose even further up at this. "hasss it?". etc... |

I have and it does not with Magni. With the skill on, straight out of the gate, he hit me for hundreds of damage - not the 5 it was supposed to be. So your critticism is wrong. Eat it.

You are quoting me from another thread. None of those words are yours. And they do not apply to this thread or conversation. If you have attempted to link two separate discussions in order to say they contradict then you have failed.
You can take your childish pre-pubescent attitude and your inaccurate critticism and eat both. I know how 55ing works. I have done it. The half-dozen tries I made with my monk against Magni all had the same result. Massive damage when spells were in effect that should have prevented it.

I don't really have much in the way of bg stories for my characters, although small groups of them are related.
My main is a Canthan mesmer. She's traveled to world and seen things none of my other characters have yet (3 protector titles and GW:EN fiished). Mika's one quirk was when she got her latest armor in Tyria, was that it needed to be white since she's a high ranking Sunspear officer. Her little sister is my pvp mesmer. They have an older cousin, also a mesmer, who's branch of the family moved to Tyria, where immigration messed the spelling of the last name up (my excuse for a typo..lol)
My first character, Corwin (Wa/E) now has a little sister, Carin (Wa/Mo), who is following in his footsteps, although she's of a bit milder personality.. She's for whatever reason looked up to Devona and wants to use a hammer instead of the sword.
My dervish is a serious sort, while her Ele sister has a more fiery personality..lol
My other Ele was purposely made to look a bit like a Drow elf and he's been wondering how the hell he ended up in GW in the first place.
None of my other characters have much of anything in my mind although my Canthan ranger is wondering about her parentage, considering she has oriental features and blond hair. She keeps asking me how a leather mini skirt can possibly be protecting her legs... I keep telling her it looks good on her and not to worry about it. She still hasn't forgiven me for misspelling her first name yet either. Was supposed to be Windsong and ended up being Winfsong, but I didn't notice til she was like level 15...oops
Oh and my monk, who does all my farming, is constantly griping at me for new armor. Dunno why she wants it though. She's been running around in the desert for two years in a bikini and tattoos and hasn't even gotten a sunburn yet.

I've never really thought about giving my girls backstories, though yes they're all sisters (Even the mis-begotten ranger from Tyria who's father was a travelling bard [different last name]) I think.. maybe I've been inspired by reading some of these

I don't have background stories for most of my characters; only one has a background story, and that's because I'm using a friend's character design and she put a lot of effort into the character - my necro. In her story, Cheran Doher is a demon hunter (haha, ironic that he's a necromancer on GW, but nothing else was fitting the DESIGN), a stubborn smartass... which kinda fits my personality. Fact she made him gay and I'm gay too probably connects, but yeah... in-game, I don't really "care" for the background.
The rest of my characters don't have background stories. I just see them as... avatars I guess. I'm not really "attached" as some other peoples with their characters. If I had a writer background or was into table RPGs and such, probably I would give them a proper story.

One of my later guilds after I got back into GW was an RP guild. I kinda forced something onto my character at that point, but I did get a pretty cool image in my mind of what Ascalon used to look like.
These days? Dunno, he just hits shit.

I don't really RP in GW, but having the little bit of BG I do have for my characters, helps me get into them a bit more. RP is fun of course, just hard to do when you have to type it all out if RP'ing with others online.
My all time favorite RP experiences were with a AD&D character. He was a fighter. When I rolled him, he ended up less than brilliant to say the least. and since the DM had us using a huge map and miniatures, the one I picked was huge compared to everyone else.. so he was like 6'8" and a pain to get armor for. But the best part of playing him was after his mother got killed in an orc raid. Mom's last act before getting overwhelmed was to have one frantic burst of strength and she brained an orc with a big cast iron skillet. My fighter, decided that skillet was going to be his weapon of choice. It got treated like a club. But it was always fun Leeroying into battle with my skillet, screaming "Moooooooooommmmmmmm!!!" for a battle cry.. Not too bright, but very fun and totally in character.. and ALWAYS good for a laugh.

Kook~NBK~
I've got back stories for a few of my characters. Short versions:
My Warrior used to run around the catacombs as a kid & had a bad habit of letting Farmer Dirk's prize winning hogs out as a joke.
My Mesmer & Dervish came over to Ascalon from cantha (daughters of a well-known diplomat) before the searing and got seperated during the ensuing confusion of war. My Dervish, who was trained as a Monk by Mhenlo originally, was kidnapped by corsairs and taken to Elona, where she escaped and took up the scythe. And now my Mesmer is searching for her lost sister. Before the searing, they also had a bad habit of causing farmer Dirk grief!
