MY friend told me that he had some probs D/L WoW patches, he had to instail his xp and play it on that.
i should be gettign a new comp with vista in a few weeks, how do i allow patches to be downloaded?
as can't play most games without the latest patches (BF2,WoW) and i might be stopped form GW.
how do i aviod it or is it an unfixed vista bug?

Your friend's issue seems to be isolated.
Guild Wars doesn't run on patches but updates when you load it
Doesn't seem to be a problem for me, I do have Vista on 2 PCs

I do play BF2 and have patched to 1.41 (which is the latest) and no, I have not had any problems yet. I do not have WoW, so I can't help you with that, sorry.

Guild Wars (and all other games I've tried) run perfectly fine on Windows Vista, patching 'n all. Expect lower framerates than if you were running Windows XP with the same hardware though, but there's no reason at all that it shouldn't function reliably at least.
Being that nearly every new mainstream PC purchased since February or so comes with Vista instead of XP, I bet a sizable minority of the WoW playerbase is running it with few issues.

so basically even though vista has been around for some time now, guild wars hasn't been optimized for the new OS yet?

not sure on WoW case but for bf2 I have to run it as a administrator if I want to play online hope it helps.

Basically speaking, at this time at least, Vista is not recommended for gamers. As mentioned above, even when it works, it has lower performance than XP. There is nothing (game related) in a new computer that doesn't work with XP, so you may want to try reformatting and installing XP even on your shiny new toy. (Microsoft has even extended the time until it stops selling XP)
P.s. - even though I'm not a big fan of commercials, I must admit to getting a laugh from the latest Mac vs PC-with-Vista spots.
