Coughing up rights to original artwork that may be used in a game to generate revenue for a company .. should merit a slightly better payoff. Sorry, my major was art .. call me biased.

Huge difference between a few letters of text and hours spent on actual art. Why not be happy that you won and enjoy your spoils?

Let's just face it, ANet has no problem using names that are RED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GOing retarded.

Art is a selling point, though. It definitely does merit a better payoff.

Guild Wars was never intended to have valuable items, everything is equal, blah, blah.

I don't think players will go "You have teh Kanaxai, OMG you lucky SOB Grats!" (unlike the meme that is a reference to...)

I really don't think that the Brand the boss contest winners really put as much of an effort in for the name as the Halloween art contest people put in for their art work.

This is basically what I was gonna say, so quote for truth.

Edit: Also on a side note to the OP: Some of those boss names that were put in were rather corny and didn't take much thought. But the art submissions cost those people time and money for the most part, *Way* more effort then you put in. So I suppose that defense is vain.

Because he's a guru whiner.

Oh, and all of the names were really crappy. They shouldn't even deserve what they got.

Your name got selected and not mine, which I considered good (but I'll simply accept Anet's decision, it's just a game!). How fair is this?

My point being, don't be so greedy.

Yes, because coming up with some cheesy name that just combines a few objects or plays on an already FAMOUS name in former pop culture really is on the same level as artistically carving a pumpkin, designing a costume, or drawing/painting a picture. ANet's choice in boss' names isn't exactly something to wave a flag about. What happened to being thankful that ANet gives us these contests to be creative and make a difference in the game instead of worrying about some arbitrary price people put on virtual objects?

You hear that sound? A thousand tiny violins...

Usually it is the contest losers who complain that the rules were stupid, the result was rigged, blah blah, lag, crappy team, stupid map. But at Guru even the winners complain, simply amazing!

for thinking up some name that probably only took a few minutes the prize was not just the mini but to have your name on a boss thousands would see. You have the honour of being able to go out in a group and say i named that boss.

for spendingin hours or days on a piece of art winners got the chance to own a slightly more expensive mini. Tell me does that sound fair to you? It certainly sounds like the artist got screwed. And those that didnt win the art conteste spent hours making things that got no recognition, whereas the brand a boss losers wasted a few minutes. If any group was hard done by its the artistic element of our community

So you're basically saying here that the importance of your submission isn't really noticeable or relevant, and therefore you should be given a big prize?

wow, a whiner and a bragger in the same post. you got a rare mini nonetheless... you don't really have a lot of footing here.
