Particular Game Change

Anyone remember when SF was the new content and gear trick still worked?
Then there was the echo nuker, or double echo nuker.
Anyway... Anyone remember when there used to be a green circle to place the meteor storm and the fire storm?
Like you'd click firestorm and your pointer would turn into a huge circle displaying the area that the AoE attack would hit?
Then you'd click, and start casting at that target area?
Just thinking back. I liked nuking that way much better than the way it is now. Why was it ever changed?

I don't remember those spells ever doing that. Would be kindy handy though.

You know you are running out of things to talk about when ANOTHER FREAKING DUPLICATE THEAD OF ONE WHICH ALREADY EXISTS IS MADE!
NeonXero
I do remember that.. and I think it was a pretty good feature, but it's not that bad how it is now.
*I was referring to the AoE circle*

sure dont remember those AoE spells ever doing that.

The gear trick was fixed when Factions was released because otherwise ritualists would get owned when using an Item Spell. The gear trick worked with the book in FoW and any item you could hold.
I don't remember the AoE nuking circle though. Perhaps I joined GW too late.

I don't remember that ever. And I remember using those skills in E3 for everyone on 2004, the first public play of GW
drago34
You sure you aren't thinking of something else, like how mages used to in warcraft 3.
combatchuck
The AOE circle is from World of Warcraft, I think. I've seen my brother doing that when he plays.
NeonXero
Maybe I was thinking of some other game (never played WoW -_-)... but I thought it was in GW waaay long ago. My /age shows (..) past 29 months.... so maybe my memory is just a bit off.
Rexion
...the circle thing, i do not remember that existing, i've been with GW since it came out... (even though i did take a break before NF came out)

no it definitely was in GW. ele was the first character i played seriously. i took me ele everywhere lol.
were you guys playing ele when SF was new content? those who don't remember?
yes the green circle thingy is in wow, but that's not what i'm thinking about.
because i definitely recall trying to fit all the ice elementals in grenth's footprint into the green circle. lol

I started Proph about a week after release and my very 1st char was a fire ele....I don't remember a green circle ever. Was this beta? From your refrenhce to Grenth's I'd assume not but that was the only time I didn't play GW and nuke.

GW never *ever* had this type of targetting. It was suggested often in betas, but it was stated that FPS style targetting of any kind would favor low latency players.
The circle-on-ground targetting is in WoW. It was also added to SWG, and is probably used in other games as well - but it was never in GW.

There is a AoE circle in WoW for certain spells... maybe your are confusing WoW with gw because I don't remember that mechanic.
RSGashapon
Sword of the New World (Granado Espada) also has ground circles for its AoE targeting. They look rather similar to alchemy symbols.
Darkobra
Ok, I've played GW since the start and have NEVER seen such a thing. And this is coming from someone who plays a mage in every RPG.
Horseman Of War
sounds like youre confusing warcraft III and guildwars....
I bet you theyll have this in guildwars2 tho
-edit: I remember when SF (im assuming sorrows furnace lol) was new, but the aoe-nerf that people talk about is the AI running out of things such as spiteful spirit.
my first character was a mesmer, and I used to RIP THROUGH the summit with my echo, a. echo, chaos storms!!!

FireFox
yep, gw never had fps style ele skills
Sleeper Service
im pretty sure warcraft3 had that AOE targeting circle.
Rohan
GW never had that
/end
/end
Sekkira
Also, it's not fps targeting, it's rts targeting. Rather large difference.
Crom The Pale
Nope, never seen any green targeting AoE spell circle, been in GW since the pre release of prophicies.
As for the gear I have one bad memory of me tanking and sundenly having to ask the question, "HEY, why is our monk using smiting skills????" as my hp slowly began to get lower and lower.....
I do like the higher challenge of the updated AI, but sometime I really miss echoing 3 meteor showers on a group just out of my agro bubble and then firestorm to finish them off.....................

Yea... it never did that. why is this thread still open?
Maybe it needs some cats?

Sorry, I was at work. Anyway, as was pointed out, a thread about remembering old times already exists. I thought about merging it, but since most of it is disproving this "targeting circle" that never existed, I'm closing it instead.
