just put [skill]Ebon Dust Aura[/skill][skill]Staggering Force[/skill] on any scythe bar and get at least 9 Earth Prayers. Don't really need anything special.

[skill]Barbed Spear[/skill][skill]Swift Javelin[/skill][skill]Ebon Dust Aura[/skill][skill]Mystic Regeneration[/skill][skill]Heart Of Fury[/skill][skill]Remedy Signet[/skill][skill]Imbue Health[/skill] Res

Swift Javelin can be changed for [skill]Disrupting Throw[/skill] or [skill]Maiming Spear[/skill]

I use this one but one caveat I do use an ebon scythe.

[skill]wild blow[/skill][skill]Victorious sweep[/skill][skill]Zealous Sweep[/skill][skill]Heart of fury[/skill][skill]Aura of thorns[/skill][skill]Ebon dust aura[/skill][skill]mystic regeneration[/skill]or[skill]vital boon[/skill] whichever tickles you and a res of your choice.

cool..I like all of those

would you use a earth-prayers hood with these kind of builds or is only 9 in earth sufficient?

I'm probably going to want to use the same armor set for a vow of strength build as well so would going higher earth be better?

I always use a mysticism hood as it means i don't really have to change depending on the build. My earth in those builds is around 11/12+1.

a myst hood
+1+3 myst

+2 scythe major

+1 earth

would that be sufficient to run a eda or vos build?

Oddly enough even though I use an EDA build I don't use sup or major earth. Honestly I think you're better off putting most of your points into scythe mastery for the bonus damage, then mysticism then earth prayers and this is why. Even as a tertiary priority you still get good duration out of EDA, usually more than the recharge time, the duration of the blind doesn't matter because you reapply it every time you use an attack skill, in other words constantly, so there is no real point in pumping earth prayers for EDA. There is no point in pushing Mysticism past a break point unless you are going to meet the next breakpoint. I just keep it at 12. Scythe mastery increases critical hit chances and boost bonus damage on scythe skills, sometimes significantly.

Well I have a zealous but I only ever use it in my melandru builds since I use a lot of strippable enchants. With EDA I use a 20% enchant mod as well so my enchants last longer allowing my regen to help out, zealous sweep is actually pretty good e-management if you know how to ball up your aggro well, if you can't then it sucks and you would be better off using something else. Between those two factors and my mysticism gain I rarely have problems with energy.

Or you could take an earth damage enchantment instead of Zealous Sweep and use a Zealous Scythe for even more energy.

The reason you're not having problems is because you're hardly using any attack skills. [skill]Mystic Sweep[/skill] should be on every PvE bar. I'd drop Victorious for [skill]Eremite's Attack[/skill] too.

I have never had a problem with my damage output either. I can see where the difference is though. you obviously trust your monks. I do not. I always take self heal on my bar and mystic regen don't count. It's spot damage mopping and degen counter. I always swing on at least three enemies so long as there are enough standing to meet that condition. It's become a habit of my targeting. so 240 health for 5 e is a good investment to me, then again that's my play style.

victorious sweep has been enough self-heal for me recently but I'd probably take mystic regen with a eda build

If you're low on health, which is when you desperately need healing, Victorious Sweep won't do anything for you.

If you don't trust your Monks, then allow your finger to accidentally slip over the little button labeled "Kick" in the party window.

Seriously, if you kill stuff faster, your Monks will have to worry less about keeping you alive. Your job is to kill stuff, not stay alive.
In PvP where you need to split and your Monks often get shut down, then yes, you want a self heal. But that never happens in PvE... last time I heard Afflicted Rangers willingly used Broad Head Arrow on Bone Fiends and whatever the heck was floating around that didn't have a single spell in its arsenal.

Actually the way I see my EDA build it is not to kill stuff it is to disrupt melee and keep the backline alive. Damage output, while respectable, is a secondary consideration. I have enough defense to take aggro without needing the monk to tag along and prot me so I can hold multiple targets long enough to blind. Then should aggro break from me they are blind and not a threat to the backline, who can focus fire on them while I continue to add damage until the nukers can focus fire on the wad of mobs I have balled up on me. It's a different play strategy is all. Not all front liners need to be total damage sponges or total offensive. My EDA build fills more of a support role and does so quite adequately. If I want to do mass damage I'd run a lyssa build not EDA.

The strength of EDA on a Derv is the fact that it can do high damage AND disrupt melee. If I only wanted to disrupt melee, I'd take a Paragon with EDA or a BSurge ele. They are ranged and thus more versatile at melee shutdown. If you're going to clumber into melee range to blind things rather than at range, then you had better have some high damage to justify it.

I have two EDA builds I normally use:

D/W

[skill]Victorious Sweep[/skill][skill]Ebon Dust Aura[/skill][skill]"I Am Unstoppable!"[/skill][skill]Lyssa's Assault[/skill][skill]Wild Blow[/skill][skill]Mystic Regeneration[/skill][skill]Faithful Intervention[/skill] Open

If you don't have EotN, or if your Norn title rank isn't high enough to make the duration of "I Am Unstoppable!" worthwhile, you can put in [skill]Conviction[/skill].

I like using Victorious Sweep because it does high damage, has a 4 sec. recharge, and has a healing bonus (although conditional) attached to it. However, it can easily be swapped out for [skill]Mystic Sweep[/skill].

Lyssa's Assault is there mainly for energy management (but it also works with EDA as well to cause blindness). It gives enough mana to cast/recast EDA or Mystic Regeneration after using. It's basicly a free hit unless you get interrupted while using it.

Wild Blow for the unblockable hit. Can't blind someone who is blocking all of your attacks.

Mystic Regeneration for the healing.

Faithful Intervention to charge up Lyssa's Assault, Mystic Regeneration and Mystic Sweep and to safeguard against spiking.

The open slot depends on what I am going into. I carry a bunch of rez scrolls so I don't use any rez signets. Lately I've been swapping between [skill]Drunken Master[/skill] and [skill]Pain Inverter[/skill]. [skill]Heart of Fury[/skill] works well there too. Use this slot for [skill]Staggering Force[/skill] if you don't have an earth weapon.

If I am going to be in a place where conditions/blindness on myself is an issue, I use this one:

D/N

[skill]Victorious Sweep[/skill][skill]Ebon Dust Aura[/skill][skill]"I Am Unstoppable!"[/skill][skill]Lyssa's Assault[/skill][skill]Mystic Sweep[/skill][skill]Plague Touch[/skill][skill]Mystic Regeneration[/skill][skill]Faithful Intervention[/skill]

On both builds I use this setup:
Ebon scythe with an enchanting mod.

Scythe Mastery: 12 + 1 + 3
Earth Prayers: 10 + 1
Mysticism: 8 + 1

I like to use a sup rune for the added damage output and the extra energy with Lyssa's Assault, but it will still work just fine with a minor.

If I am running Heart of Fury on the first build, I'll put Mysticism at 11 and Earth Prayers at 9.
