lets say instead of giving everyone a slight chance for gw2 beta by giving us the little aplication to fill out then never replying to our email address how about for people who have been playing for more than 1 year and who have been logging into guild wars at least every 6 months get automatic beta keys this would give a chance for elite players to help get rid of bugs and errors and to get a first glimpse of how guild wars is going to be then after that beta has ended create an open beta were guild wars 2 will be temporarily open to the public then when it has ended everyone must buy it at the store and activate there accounts.

i would really hate to see arenanet neglect guild wars players who have been with them since probablly the beginning of prophecies or factions.

Perhaps they should start with the oldest registered accounts and send emails to them and then move forward through the register dates. Id be pretty upset if I didnt get in on the GW2 Beta.

I don't want to be in any beta anymore, ever. It's either hard work, if you do go and test stuff properly, or it's just playing the game in an unstable build, which can quickly ruin one's play enjoyment.

Yep, my opinion exactly.

I wouldn't mind participating just to check it out like in an open beta.

But finding bugs and playing something incomplete and unstable is not fun...

By that logic they'd hit quota before they even got to anyone who bought the game at release, since everyone who was in GW beta would of course come first.

Hmm...maybe eligibility for accounts that own all three campaigns and EotN. Based on the sales figures Zinger quoted recently, that seems like a sizeable enough pool. And at least those people are (presumably) still playing, unlike many of the earliest accounts.

Full disclosure: I fit in the category described here.

I disagree with the idea. Loyal players do not necessarily make good beta-testers. You need beta-testers who are good at finding bugs, flaws, exploits, and imbalances and are willing to do very repetitive tasks for an extended period all the while dealing with a product that isn't release ready.

log in every 6 months shows what a great player you are.

and elite as well.

keep the elite people who already know it all out and let the amatures bumble into the bugs and report them.

no way sherlock.

than lets make it even better.

for every month of beta you were in befire release of GW you get an extra chance at it.

that gives me at least 5 maybe 6 extra chances.........yup plus number of times logged in times the number of accounts..........now we are cooking........lets do it.

Agree with Winterclaw.
Furthermore, Loviatar already pointed out several flaws in the OP as well.

i agree with some here, being a beta tester isn't fun i'm already infected with Q/A virus after the game is done you will see only the flaws they left in and never fixed.
And now you see how many people only want to be part f it to say i tested GW2 thats a bad thing.

Sure....

Have all players that played in BWE or WPE count as "loyal". Should be easy to figure out, since accounts transferred from those when GW went live.

Not exactly. My friends played alongside me in the weekend events and then abandoned GW entirely within six weeks after Prophecies' release. Would you consider them worthy of such a task?

I wouldn't mind being able to get into the GW2 beta, just that I don't know where to sign up.

Give the ones with r5-6 KoaBD beta abilities.

If being a beta tester is all about repetition and generally mindless approach to uncovering and grinding everything you can, those with r6 koabd should match that mold.

Or just give us pvpers beta tickets.

The beta for Tabula Rasa was fun. My first beta ever

Please do it by both hours and months/years; at the time of this posting I've only been in but have played for over 1300 hours, which I think is quite a bit of time. More than some people who have been in since Guild Wars 1 beta.

Closed beta should be for people with beta/test server experience who are actually going to spend their time testing features looking for bugs, etc, and not people who are going to just be wanting to play the game as soon as possible. Open Beta is more the server strain test period, and the game is a lot more like what it's finally going to be at this stage.

There's already a newsletter to sign up to which should notify us of when beta apps start, but I would prefer GW2 to be tested by experienced, devoted beta testers so as to have a decent quality game by the time it goes Open Beta.

Agree and Disagree with some of the posts made here. I think a plan in this format would be best;

Closed Alpha Test: Paid Arena Net employees only. First test.

Closed Beta Test: Given to current Guild Wars players. I think it should be by number of hours played, this is the most fair. I do not know what would be a good figure, but I'm willing to ballpark it starting at around 150 hours. Yes, that may seem like a lot, but hey; the game has been out for years.

Open Beta Short Test: Stress test type open beta. Not very long, similar to the weekends. All closed betaers can have their CB accounts active in this.

Let's try waiting to talk about this stuff here until the beta for GW2 is actually close enough to worry about, shall we?
