Just wanted some others opinions if i should get rid of my black bear for another pet without brutal mauling or is brutal mauling really that much of a downside. (also my bear is hearty)

Yeah, the bear is slower.. but meh, Pet DPS in general isn't anything amazing anyway. If you really want to do great damage, use a bow or make a Warrior or Elementalist. If you like your bear more than a wolf or tiger or whatever, I say keep it.
