Central Storage

I was thinking the other day that it would be really good to have a 'central storage' as a staff option in guild halls.
Our guild mates tend to share weapons, runes, materials with each other but it means some of us 'waste' a character slot to have a mule to carry all spares and communal items. It would be really good to have a storage facility within guild halls with a larger capacity to store more items that are for guild use.. maybe just accessible to officers/guild leaders. I don't know how practical it is to create the facility but it would certainly be useful.
What do others think?

I like the idea although I would use it to put in items I dont want any more so my guildmembers could help themselves.

I do see a problem but it would take someone with coding experience to answer it.

This would be a multi account based storage center, in effect it would be impossible to keep any guildmember out.
What happens if someone in the guild decides to leave and strips out the entire storage before doing so.

Many guilds would end up with big arguments over who last had what over dissapearing items.

Its great amongst people you know and trust though.

i would periodically empty the storage and sell its contents for profit.

Yes I could see that as a problem. Maybe theres a way to add it just as a guild leader thing. Im not really versed in the intricasies of programming though so I dont know how easy/difficult this would be.

Of course it would be a risk but maybe having some way to record who has withdrawn items, with abusers joining the ranks of all other members who break the codes of conduct in the game would help. I don't know, Im just throwing ideas about.

They could easily wait to see how the newly released WoW Guild Banks work out and build on them. Access Control for different categories or, in the case of the banks tabs, of items, a log of inputs and outputs of items, etc. As far as trust, well truthfully a guild leader right now can kick everyone in his guild and sell a guild hall to other players for loads depending upon how many guild npcs have been been added to the hall by its members. With guilds there are always issues like this and there needs to be some semblance of trust or at least some idea of risk before you get into one with strangers.

Try a search for "guild storage." It's been suggested and requested many times, and Gaile said ANet devs were considering it prior to Factions' release. She later said that they had considered and abandoned the idea, after Factions was released.

although it has been suggested many times, it is still a valid discussion, try posting in the suggestion forum or getting this moved.

At the topic, I personally think that this feature could be too easily abused by alot of people in guilds, sure you may think that your guildies are trustworthy, but alot of guilds out there aren't like that. Nevertheless it would still be useful.

Our guild has separate accounts full of mules for this particular purpose although it's far from an elegant solution - the upkeep alone is a full time job

Personally, I'd rather have in-game 'e-mail' and the option to send items over to other players as 'attachments' - would help swapping stuff as well as a guild storage without the downside of unauthorized sell-outs ...

All the devs are busily working on GW2, your idea would stall the development of GW2 till christmas............................... 2012!

Well, at least it would make people think twice about who they invited to their Guilds. Right now, there are WAY too many Guilds in Guild Wars.

Unrealisticly you could have a log of what people put in or take but like others said the idea for "Guild Storage" was scrapped. Even if it were to be reconsidered, I am sure it would take too much effort and time(in fact probably a nightmare to work on) and we all know they don't want to delay GW2...

My former guild used to have a whole account dedicated for mules that officers had access to and used as a general guild storage. Of course, it requires a good deal of trust, but we never had any issues since our member/officership process wasn't done in a whim anyway.

But maybe a central guild storage which officers had access to could work in general, too. You wouldn't HAVE to use it if you didn't trust your officers, but those that do, would have the chance.

1) This should be in Sardelac Sanitarium.
2) This shouldn't be a topic because it's already been covered.
3) People have wanted this since before Sorrow's Furnace. It's not going to happen.

1) Excuse me for not knowing that was the place for suggestions about games!
2) Some people haven't been here before and are'nt going to trawl through pages of posts to find 'dead' subjects.. me included.
3) Well maybe its something that will be considered in the future.
