Divinity Coast Hardmode Not Completable Without Hero Monk
Kaida the Heartless
Anyone who is going for the guardian title may sympathize here.
In the Divinity Coast mission, the bonus is to save the villagers with the eye of Janthir. Well, unfortunately, this is nearly impossible for the very last one you must save.
A friend and I just tried the mission, having already done the mission previously, and after reading guildwiki. We know where the dudes are. Upon rounding the corner to get to the final villager, I told him (a monk) to go straight for the villager, but he barely made it under radar distance before the tengu cruely murdered the villager.
My suggestion: give the villagers a stance or two. The tengu do have seeking blade, but at least they will be able to mitigate some damage so that a human can at least reach them before they die.
The only other option is to take a monk hero and send him ahead before the group even loads into the level. That's a bit unfair.

did you take the route from villager number 4 to number 5, or did you backtrack and have to fight through two mobs to get to number 5? also, if you take the short path from 4 to 5 and you stop to fight a mob in the way, he will die, even in normal mode. I just run past that first mob and clear the mob attacking 5 and then deal with the one in the way.

there is another way to get to the villagers faster without them dying and without healing them, but I forgot, because I found out when I was mapping the mission and had soon forgotten the exact route. If you go the normal obvious way, they usually die even in normal mode if you don't have a monk. all I remember was killing lots of lightning dragon thingy on the way. and if you come up from behind you would not have trigger the "kill the villager" before player arrive trigger.

there is also a way around the side that seems to work better in HM. cause the creatures are out of range and do not spawn and start attacking till you enter their radar bubble. Coming at it from the other direction you can run straight to the last chosen and heal him ASAP with out going through the first 2 mobs that you normally would from the other direction. Then fight off the mobs with relative ease. I also think they buffed up that last chosen a little a few updates ago for HM so he heals himself with a healing hands elite. Its been a while. but I remember him dying in 1 hit when HM first was introduced, but some time after that he was buffed so he survived a little longer...

Hang a right over the bridge and go through the tengu, you come around from the side and right to the chosen villager from the right.
Targuil
I did this with my friend and he used Mark of Protection and infuse on ranger lol. We got it through.

its posible, just go /mo with shield of regen and shield of absorption and take a pve running skill like mindbender.
i'd rather have them to fix aurora glade bonus on HM, took me alot of time to figure out how it must be done^^

Your Thesis
Divinity Coast Hardmode Not Completable Without Hero Monk
-> not true. I did it with Alesia and B/P Rangers.
Furthermore, what is your point? Add stances or other buff to the guy you have to save?
Except from being boring as hell, this mission is not that ridiculously hard. A hero monk with healing seed would just make it easier to save the villager. Well, then take the hero monk.
No need to dumb this down. Will make players only dumber in the long run, sorry. Same for Aurora Glade. It took me some time to figure out how to do it, but that is part of the game.

I failed Divinity Coast HM one time because of villager death, but we learned from our mistakes and bumrushed past the first Tengu mob and slaughtered the second that would've gotten our dear villager. No hero monk use. In fact, I think we had 2 human monks for that.
Aurora Glade bonus: take the bonus wording "assassinate the demagogue" dead literally.

All I can say is that myself and all the other legendary gaurdians obviously managed, so its hardly "impossible". Its a pain in the ass, but so are alot of other hard mode missions, but they can be done.
Otherwise why call it hard mode!

So.... bring a hero monk or a real monk?
I don't see the issue here. Unless you don't have Nightfall, then I can see where it might be difficult.

Thanks for the posts guys.
We've been doing it all kinds of different ways and we still couldn't get to him fast enough. None of the others are problems, just that very last one.
Ya'll have managed to do it, so I guess we'll just go until we get it to work.
We just kinda laughed the first time because we were so rediculously far away when we watched him die. I'm all for Hard Mode being hard, but we thought it may be a bit unfair. :]

The only problem about this mission is that it's only about luck. The or tengu ettins appear near enough of any of the villagers, the villager is dead. It doesn't matter is it is Hard or Normal mode, the Ettins can kill a villager in about 5 hits.
It's just that. They should make the monster groups spawn when you are close, not when the map is loaded.

This mission has been, by far, the easiest one to beat in HM. Did it first time no problems. No hero monk, one hench monk. Used Sab's 3 necro build with myself as the SS and a paragon hero for support. Take the path suggested in the wiki, and 4/5 of the choosen won;t even ever come under attack (just the one at the end of the bridge).
Now Aurora Glade, THAT mission sucks hard.

Not sure why, but Divinity Coast was a piece of cake to get. Maybe because I was dreading it so much I over-prepared.
Now Aurora Glade, that one was a pain until I finally got my party formed right.

So?
It might not have worked for you, but it might have for others. There is no mission requirements that say which classes may or may not be present.
GW is still primarily multiplayer game. H/H everything is still a nice bonus. Pick the build that can get the mission done.
Anything else is: Take brick. Hit brick against forehead. Repeat until enlightened.

It actually took me a human monk guildie to get this one done on my title. My heroes couldn't even get there fast enough, lol.

If in some cases the mission is impossible then your plain stupid to think it shouldnt be changed. Every mission should be doable and the only fails should be:
Party Deaths
Key Character Dieing
The party should be able to protect the key character thou, not just hope.
