I wasn't even aware there was the question.

Prot > Heal

Hybrid > all

PUGs prefer heal

PUGs are clueless.

[skill]Reversal of fortune[/skill][skill]Shield of Absorption[/skill][skill]Word of Healing[/skill][skill]glyph of lesser energy[/skill][skill]protective spirit[/skill][skill]aegis[/skill][skill]dismiss condition[/skill][skill]cure hex[/skill]

or something simmilar.

Do both, run a hyrbrid Prot/Heal bar (like the one posted above).
It's far more efficient than pure Heal and pure Prot - you do NOT need 8 slots to make red bars go up, you need WoH and Kiss at most.

Similarly, pure Prot is uneeded overkill for most of PvE.

However, PuGs scream for healing monks because they are, by and large, clueless scrubs.

Hybrid > PvE

I get asked to swap my Prot build out for a Heal build all the time in PUGs. I've only agreed to do it twice, both today, and it was a double wipe.

I should have just turned down the PUG invite. Healing just can't keep up with Prot unless there's someone else there doing already.

A lot of people here will tell you Hybrid - and that's not bad advice, but I personally find I do best as pure Protection.

My usual build is something similar to:

[skill]Reversal of fortune[/skill][skill]guardian[/skill][skill]zealous benediction[/skill][skill]protective spirit[/skill][skill]draw conditions[/skill][skill]remove hex[/skill][skill]aegis[/skill][skill]rebirth[/skill]

Sometimes I swap out Guardian for;
[skill]Shield of Absorption[/skill]. Guardian is a weaker version of Aegis in some regards, but handy to spam whereas Aegis is handy as a pre-prot.

Remove Hex is the weakpoint in that build, and if I expect a hex heavy area I'll put something else in there.

meh i find, divine spirit to be awesome in pve-especially HM. You can put up loads of little prots free of charge.

PvP it's not so good since skill spamming isnt viable.

Typically groups will need one healer and one prot unless you are in the lower level ares where the party size is 4-6 then the hybrid is the best. I ussualy take a similar build to Arcady, but will switch to a Healer's Boon build if I must go healing. Although most of the time I just use henchies, PUGing ussually fails in most of the PUGs I have been in.

It depends, either route you go you shouldn't have any problem getting consistent PUG's, but if you're just learning the art of Monking, it's *usually* better to start with Healing Prayers, and once you've learned the nuances of it, move to Protection. Protection is a lot harder to play, and even harder to master, but the people that have are nothing short of awe-inspiring. In the end it really boils down to personal preference I guess.

which one do most groups want There can be a huge difference between the needs of a (PUG) group and what they want.
Your team setup and your enemies determines if you go heal or prot.
In general, hybrid builds as surgested above, will do the job.

However, do not argue in PUGs on healing/protting, unless you can tell them why your build fits better in the team + mission/quest than the surgested build.

Most PvE PUGs I hit don't care what type of monk you are as long as you aren't smiting so there isn't much arguing. For PvP, they normally have everything mapped out anyway and it's your job to fulfill a certain slot.

If you can intelligently and calmly explain why one way is better than the other then you have a greater chance of playing the way you want. Just don't try to do this by insulting someone or being arrogant.

If the team insists on a certain way then you have 2 choices. Their way or the highway.

- Hybrids work well
- Pre-protting > healing. Observe the battlefield and anticipate.
- Infusing is a good skill to learn.

I strongly discourage you from running "a nice build that is pretty much balanced and will generally be used throughout my monk's career" all the time. Try different builds and try to understand why some builds work, while others fail.

yo what i like to do is hero it with 3 hero monks (dunk tahlk oggy)
make em all mo/me, put mantra of inscriptions on each of them, sig of judgement on 2, bane sig on 3, castigation sig on 3, expel hexes on one, rest of their bar consists of a hybrid heal, smite support.

i.e. reversal of dmg, smite hex, smite condition, sig of devotion, etc etc.
while i myself am probably a healer's boon heal partyer blah blah.

;] i run weird stuff.
