Assassin/Dervish or Dervish/Assassin?
Jack.Straw
Hi. I'm looking for a MMORPG to get into and I think guild wars is going to be the one. I typically like to play stealthy, low-armor characters so I decided on Assassin. However, then I noticed the Dervish and thought combining the classes might be a good way to go.
Since I don't own any of the guild wars games yet, I want to decide which class will work better as a primary so I can buy the appropriate game first. Any suggestions/thoughts?
Thanks,
-Jack

Well, the Assassin is Factions only and the Dervish Nightfall only, so you'd have to buy both to try that idea. Second of all, if you start one of them, you have to wait till you can cross to the other campaign, later in the game, to get the other profession as a secondary. Thirs, the Assassin and the Dervish have very different playstyles. Assassins are more get in, unleash a devastating chain, get out; Dervishes rely on enchantments and tend to stay in a melee fight for longer than an Assassin.

Both have builds that can use each other
The PVE scythe sin works well by utilizing crits.
The Avatar of Lyssa Dagger Dervish works also.
However they are from different Campaigns and thus you must buy them both.

Don't forget the Grenth's Grasp Trampling Ox build.
But honestly, A/D and D/A don't mix easily and both play every differently.
From what you said, it sounds like you'd prefer an asssasin (as a "steathy" character). Sins aren't easy to play though.

Thanks for the info. I do realize that i'd have to buy both games eventually to do this.. but which i buy first is the question.
I found this in the Guild Wars WIKI, under the Dervish class desctiption (http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Dervish):
"The Dervish can be combined with the Assassin as a secondary profession to create an elite-runner that can escape from and survive extremely dangerous situations. The best Dervish runners primarily ferry other players through the Southern Shiverpeaks."

Ahh now you might need to buy the third game Prophesies, to access the southern shiverpeaks.
In prophesies all the cities are open ie if you come accross one you can walk straight in.
With Factions you had to follow the storyline to open up the cities otherwise you would be running people to the gates and they still couldnt get in.
Nightfall has some running but still needs missions to be completed to open some cities.
Prophesies is where running started and still continues.

"Running" isn't exactly a game play mechanic for a first character. You'll be able to avoid fighting anybody in a few selected areas of the game, but it really should not be the baises for how you choose a character. Ignore that statement entirely.

Yup, because using the first letters in the name results in a rather unfortunate nickname.
