The "Stupid-Builds-You-Didn't-Think-Would-Work-But-They-Did" Thread
BLOODGOAT
Poast them! Here's one of mine:
For the longest time I never had Factions available to me so whenever I wanted to 600/Smite, I was damned to be the Smiter. And while some people might enjoy sitting and leeching drops, I sure don't. I want to be out there doing something! Nevermind the fact that there quite a few bad 600s advertising "Exp 600 LF Smite!!!1!pancake!!" I couldn't tolerate how bad a lot of them were, however, I could tolerate my own failure... so, I decided, how could I design a mimic 600 build still capable of tanking HM enemies without the crutch of Spirit Bond? Massive self-healing, I thought. And it did work. I ran this build on my "600":
[skill]Aura of Faith[/skill][skill]Healing Touch[/skill][skill]Orison of Healing[/skill][skill]Words of Comfort[/skill][skill]Dismiss Condition[/skill][skill]Divine Boon[/skill][skill]Balthazar's Spirit[/skill][skill]Essence Bond[/skill]
For the most part, it worked. It was capable of mending the damage experienced as a 600 without Spirit Bond, so long as I wasn't being mobbed by upwards of 8 or 9 marshal attackers (and even then, I was at a near breaking-point!). Even though it paled in comparison to a legitimate 600, I continued to use it here-and-there because it was fun, and even showed it to a few friends and guild-mates who got a nice chuckle out of it, because of both how primitive it was and the fact it even worked.
Anyways, got myself a copy of Factions and starting 600ing like it was supposed to be done... didn't pay much attention to my dubiously dubbed "Faithful Tank" after that.
But within the last couple weeks we Monks have received some nice buffs to the Healing Prayers line, most noticeably Word of Healing and Light of Deliverance (even though that was a terrible, terrible nerf). Among other buffed healing skills sat Glimmer of Light.
The first time I dabbled in making a pseudo-600 I used Arcane Echo + Glimmer of Light + Holy Haste because of low recharge, high spammability, and because it's virtually non-interruptible due to the 1/8 second casting time. But looking at it now, it caught my eye. They increased the amount it healed for and decreased the recharge time (no more Arcane Echo for spamming! Woot!). So last night, I saddled up on the old pseudo-600 with a new build and attempted to do Gates of Kryta HM, a place where my "Faithful Tank" failed many a time before. The build?
[skill]Glimmer of Light[/skill][skill]Protective Spirit[/skill][skill]Shield of Absorption[/skill][skill]Shielding Hands[/skill][skill]Blessed Aura[/skill][skill]Divine Boon[/skill][skill]Balthazar's Spirit[/skill][skill]Essence Bond[/skill]
To my personal amazement, I actually cleared the massive mob that my other Monk-tank failed miserably with. No doubt accountable to the fact that I incorporated some very important Protection Prayers into my bar, but undeniable is the fact that Glimmer of Light proved to be a very powerful heal in itself, healing for upwards of 300 health each use (306 for me, to be exact). The primary disadvantage of the build, however, is that you need max AL armor, so of course the rate at which you kill creatures is going to be far lower than that of a properly-suited 600. And although most would stick to a generic 600 build for it's ease of use, this is a very fun, and sometimes challenging alternative, for those who either a) don't have the Factions campaign or b) just want a new little challenge.
But enough of my babbling! Post some of your utterly stupid builds that you didn't think would work, but did.

It... surprised me.... Have I revived the shovesin, or something? I thought the build would be a laugh to make when I saw the shovesin in the pvx archives.

I made this one day in RA when i was bored with my Mesmer...
Got me back in those days 3 glad points (3x10 consecutive wins) in a row, two runs without a monk.
I was pretty amazed who good it worked but after those nice three runs it failed badly somehow and I never fooled with it again .
[skill]Leech signet[/skill][skill]Signet of Judgment[/skill][skill]Bane Signet[/skill][skill]purge signet[/skill][skill]Holy Wrath[/skill][skill]Ether Signet[/skill][skill]Mantra of Inscriptions[/skill][skill]Resurrection signet[/skill]
Smiting Prayers: 12
Inspiration: 11 +1 +1
Fast Casting: 8 +1
Ether Signet was needed to renew holy wrath after someone got his/ her enchantment(s) stripped.
Was fun for a bit.
P.s.

Used Echo Vampiric Gaze in Fort Aspenwood quite a bit back in the day. At times it didn't do too well, but more often than not this was a fairly decent build even though it seems a bit ridiculous and I've never heard of anyone running this or similar build.
There's enough stuff dying in the place to pretty much keep a constant energy pool even when constantly spamming Vamp Gaze/Dark Pact/Vamp Gaze...etc. Throw in a Well of Blood for a little help when needed or to steal corpses from enemy MM. I absolutely love hitting Gaze of Contempt on those damn Ele/Derv tank bastards. They're nearly impossible to take down if you don't strip their enchantments. All in all, it's a fun build to run with I think.

Yeh, I was bored when I invented this piece of crap, but then again, it's just for RA (and maybe AB's) Ha ! Good thinking there, I play RA a lot and never seen that before.

Still dont know why people think that zealot's triggers on enchants only.
Has no healing but I've got more glads with a purely offensive build than with a monk, it's pretty fun seeing other teams go boom.

The original HAMSTORM That build was so good, they nerfed it before release.
For anyone who doesn't get it, the original Guild Wars box had a full-screen fold-out screen on the box showing a warrior with this awesome build fighting a Bone Dragon. With a bow. This warrior's alternate weapon sets were:
#2: Hammer
#3: Axe & Shield(Carapace)
#4: Wand
That was almost, but not quite, as good as the W/Mo/Me Echo Mending Warrior exploit build.
stealth edit: I missed the energy pips because I was trying to figure out the 25 energy. No insignias, Knight's armor, so that leaves the bow. Was there a +5 Bow then?

Go in by using GoLE->Conjure Frost-> Shatterstone. You really do need GoLE for just about each spike, so it can only be done every 30 seconds. Thing is, not counting the 2s cast of Shatterstone, the actual spike takes only slightly more than 3 seconds. Then again, it's just for RA and maybe AB's.

That's my GvG warrior build.echo chain either rebirth or mending, depending on the situation. Use rebirth for far away resses and Restore for close up ones. Never use Heal Sig if you don't have Frenzy up to protect yourself. Never, I repeat never use Gash if your foe is bleeding. That would be an insta-lose for your team. The build works better if you have multiples so they can all work together.
[skill]Frenzy[/skill][skill]Healing Signet[/skill] Nope, this is:
[skill]Gash[/skill][skill]Frenzy[/skill][skill]Mending[/skill][skill]Healing Signet[/skill][skill]Echo[/skill][skill]Arcane Echo[/skill][skill]Rebirth[/skill][skill]Restore Life[/skill]
