I went to get a treasure chest last night and a gold dropped, offhand focus, +58 HP while hexed, +20% disease reduction, and was real surprized to go to the merchant and see he was offering 520 gold for this item. This gold is nothing special, so was real surprized to see such a high price for it.
Has an update increase the value merchants are paying for gold items?
Not sure I saw this in a recent update, but maybe I missed it.

It varies. I've had max golds sell to merchant from as low as sub-200 to over 400. Never had a 500 though. A former guildie of mine once got a shield from farming Hydras that had the exact same stats and mods as a shield I had gotten from farming the same spot. The merch price was about 100g difference between the two. So it's totally random.

I have noticed that normally req 12 have higher price than req 9. So Anet really thinks that higher req is better

been farming in the past few days with hundred golds items sold to merchant from 200g to a bit above 400g. never seen merchant value that high. lucky you

The highest price I got on an item is 600g exact for a req10 healing ankh which I got off a chest run. It was in HM.

It's an interesting theory. It would be one way of compensating for the gold shortage we all experienced after loot scaling, without actually getting rid of loot scaling or having to admit that they were wrong.

Yeah, it is interesting. Today I dint really play. Yesterday I had a number of golds and they all sold for what they usually do: 200-300g or so. Quite surprised to see values that high. I cant recall ever getting over 500g, but I may have once or twice ages ago (?). Maybe it was just a run of luck there, or maybe there really was a little tweak.

normally only on high req items...i think they do this because they feel bad for you since you got a crappy item

The Treasure Chest in realm of torment usually drops gold items with values 500-600gold WITHOUT the inscription. My stupid laptop got a virus but my record was around 750. Run the Treasure chest and you'll probably get one

I have the feeling too, that they increased the value of gold item drops. I had several drops above 400-500 in the last few days from my Elona treasure chests and Hard mode.
